Walking Dead Season 3 character death The Walking Dead Season 3 SPOILERS A Major Character Will Die

[UPDATE: Click here for our review/recap of The Walking Dead season 3 premiere: 'Seed'.]

While the news was to be expected, it has been confirmed by TV Line that more than one of our faithful Atlanta Survivors is going to end up as some lucky zombie’s lunch in the upcoming third season of AMC’s horror-thriller The Walking Dead.

So far, producers on the show aren’t naming any names, but with season 3 expected to travel down a significantly darker path than season 2, it appears that all the characters will experience new forms of hardship and brutality.

[WARNING! The Walking Dead Season 2 Spoilers Below!]

If you’re fan of writer Robert Kirkman’s original The Walking Dead comic series (on which the TV show was based), you know all too well that not everyone makes it out of the West Central Prison alive – and the ones that do probably wish they hadn’t.

Both the on-screen zombification death of little lost Sofia Peletier (Madison Lintz) in the Season 2 mid-season finale and the graphic gutting of Dale Horvath (Jeffrey DeMunn) should be a reminder that nobody is safe on this show.

The West Central Prison as it appears in ‘The Walking Dead’ comics

Despite the many alterations that have already been made from comic book to the show, diehard fans of the comics need not worry that the TV producers are going to water down or erase the truly gruesome moments in the upcoming season. Earlier, executive producer Glen Mazzara reassured skeptical fans that he has no intention on deviating from the grizzly source material that has made the series so popular, saying:

“There’s no place we won’t go. Everything is on the table. This is a cutting edge cable drama. I’m comfortable with that material and we answered a lot of these questions on say the Shield and when I worked there, so I’m comfortable dealing with very, very edgy material. That being said, you want to make sure that things are not gratuitous, that things are not offensive for the sake of being offensive. I don’t ever want the show to get too bleak. I think we’ve done a good job of creating characters that people care about. I think there’s a heart to the show.”

It should be noted that a character death will probably be the least dramatic thing to happen in season 3. This season, the group of survivors will not only be finally encountering the villainous Governor (David Morrissey) and the return of Merle Dixion, but the perils of the partially abandoned West Central Prison. What at first seem like an unlikely safe haven quickly turns into a living hell when the group learns that not all the convicts are in the mood for peaceful co-existence.

So who do you think is going to bite the big one on this season of The Walking Dead?

As always we will keep you posted on any new Walking Dead info that should arise and catch the season 3 premiere October 14th @ 9pm on AMC.

  1. this is the dumbest spoiler I’ve ever read, OMG someones gonna die on a zombie show! seriously?…

    • That’s what makes this it fun. now i cant wait

  2. I hope its Lori.

    • And i really don’t see T-doog surviving this season or even at least the first half

      • If they start treating T-Dawg like the Tyrese character from the comics I’d be all for him sticking around. I doubt they will though.

      • The article says a “major character.” I don’t think T-Dawg has even had a line in like half the episodes.

    • I read the books and it is most definitely Lori.Poor poor Carl will have no mommy real soon!

  3. yup Lori needs,to kicj the bucket

  4. It could be Herschel. He’s old and more fragile.

    I REALLY hope it’s Lori.

Beth (though not a big character) will obviously die.

FOR THE LOVE OF GOD I HOPE ITS NOT DARYL!

  5. Lori needs to die.. If Daryl goes, I stop watching the show. He’s the one good (and original!) addition to the show.

    • Daryl is the only character in the group that isn’t annoying. Next to T-Dog, but that’s only because T-Dog had maybe 5 lines in the entire second season.

But if Lori doesn’t bite the bullet, I won’t stick around to watch a 4th season. Her character is annoying.

They might as well kill Carl too. That kid is hopelessly useless. The only thing he can be counted on is his inability to stay in the house when told to stay in the house.

  6. Many characters died during this arc in the comic. But since this is the TV show, I’m kind of curious to see who / how many they will kill off or keep on.

  7. Most likely to go – Lori (major character), Beth, T-Dog. Hopefully not Carol b/c she’s become such a controversial character not to keep around. Her “friendship/pseudo love” with Daryl has the fandom split and everyone talking, even more than the ol’ (and over done, I may add) “who’s baby is it?” story arc. Too good not to keep it going. At least that’s my opinion.

    • What does it matter whose baby it is now. Shane is dead. If they all carry the zombie disease or virus or gene, whatif the baby is born a walker? Could that happen? Has anyone else thought about that? Or no just because it didnt happen in the comic doesnt mean it cant happen on the show. I dont see why they would kill daryl if they are bringing meryl back.

  8. I think Lori, T-dog, Herschel all bite it i the next 2 seasons. I dont know about Beth but possible. I also think that on the show Lori will die but the baby will survive adding a new branch of drama to the evolution of the show.

  9. Please use a proofreader. “Grizzly” is in reference to a bear. “Grisly” means to inspire disgust. It’s distracting to see this.

    • wow. grammar police? so what if the guy said “grizzly” people like u r a joke!

      • Arrrr… that be a fine tale matey!

  10. I know in the comic Lori is killed during this arc but I wonder if its going to be extended untill the 4 th season.

    • They’ve already confirmed that this arc will last two seasons, so yeah, I think that she’ll die then.

Personally, I think Carol will be killed by Merle in order to screw with Daryl and drive him crazy.

      • Haha this statement rhymes amazingly. but yes, that would be great.

      • God I hope not personally I would like to see Carol and Darryl get together. Why does everyone hate Lori so much? I agree that Carl is a little annoying brat, why did they kill sophia when Carl and sophia are suppossed to grow up and get together. I dont think they should have ruined that future. Also I hate that they killed Dale. I am glad they killed Shane. If Lori is gonna be a beotch to Rick for killing Shane then she does derserve to die. Rick does his best. Did anyone see the special features where the actor that plays Rick really has an english accent? I thought it makes him look and sound a lot less macho. lol

      • I kind of thought that too. Darryl and Carol have been getting really close (since Season 2… poor Sophia) and I think that Merle (still harboring some resentment toward the group for leaving him handcuffed on the roof) would feel like that Carol is one of the main reasons that Darryl hasn’t left yet…. so naturally kill Carol thinking that Darryl wouldn’t have any reason to not leave with him.

  11. its either gonna be lori, t dog, or hershel thats going or carol one of those

  12. i hope the cop dude makes it through the whole sweries. he knows how to control things. thats why i like main role charactors.

  13. They have already confirmed that the prison will be the setting for two seasons, so the Governor and Lori are both safe. It will either be Carol or one or all of Herschel’s family members, excluding Maggie. For those who are avid readers of the comic, they would probably agree. I believe we will see the true wave of mass character deaths in the second season at the prison, once again those who have read the comics know what I mean. In the comics, the conclusion of their stay at the prison is absolute pandamonium, with very few making it out. But who knows, in the comics Dale and Andrea are a couple, so anything can happen. I love this show because they follow just enough of the source material, while adding much needed twists and turns.

  14. Kill the hick widow, I don’t remember her name but she’s way more annoying than the rest.

  15. PLEASE BE LORI PLEASE BE LORI PLEASE BE LORI PLEASE BE LORI PLEASE BE LORI PLEASE BE LORI PLEASE BE LORI PLEASE BE LORI PLEASE BE LORI PLEASE BE LORI
PLEASE BE LORI PLEASE BE LORI PLEASE BE LORI PLEASE BE LORI PLEASE BE LORI PLEASE BE LORI PLEASE BE LORI PLEASE BE LORI PLEASE BE LORI PLEASE BE LORI
PLEASE BE LORI PLEASE BE LORI PLEASE BE LORI PLEASE BE LORI PLEASE BE LORI PLEASE BE LORI PLEASE BE LORI PLEASE BE LORI PLEASE BE LORI PLEASE BE LORI

    • its like a 90% that your gonna get your wish :)

  16. Have any of you actually read all the comics it wont be anyone your thinking of trust me

    • Kirkman said talks in detail in his interviews that no one is safe and that he is willing to take the deaths to any character in the show. So I wouldn’t be too sure about the safety of the characters people are talking about.

      • “Kirkman talks” :p

  17. Spoiler? LOL.

Anyways, whats great about this show, is that half the people who tune in Sundays are haters, or just tune in for the Zombies… This added audience will keep the show going for a long time.. giving us real fans the drama and great story telling we seek.

    Long Live TWD!!!

  18. You would figure after last season producers would have figured out that sitting in one place isnt what the audience wants to see. From a production standpoint i understand but as a fan its boring and a tired style of story telling.

    • there is so much good tv on these days, I would just find something you can love, instead of something that tires/bores you. Good Luck!

  19. Lori. Dear god, please kill Lori.

Beth will have to die – no mental fortitude, weighs down the rest of the group (should I go on? I don’t think I need to).

Carol. It’d be awesome to watch her get a spine, develop more character, but I have to agree with an earlier post – her character’s death would serve best if it was meant to hurt Daryl.

And yes, if Daryl goes so does my love for this show.

    • Yeah. I think (and secretly hope) Beth is one of the one going to die. I just feel like her character is like “customer #3 in a movie” (she’s there but doesn’t really bring anything interesting to the show). lol

  20. The fact Is the next two seasons will aisle our survivors down to five or six people. I see the next deaths to be Carol, T Dog, Hershel, Beth, Lori, The Governer, and maybe Merel.

But keep in mind not everyone lives forever I mean for gods sake Glenn is dead in the comics, by the way spoiler alert, Daryl could be a death in the series.

    Now for reasons:

Carol has more potentional now that she is the love interest of Daryl, i could see a ploy by Merel or The Govenor to kill her to toy with Daryls mind. T Dog is mister five lines a season i like T Dog and all but he is screwed. Hershel they were trying to kill him last season, plus he dies in the prison in the comics anyways, all odds are Beth will die, Maggie will be with Glenn and he will feel helplss and probablly will just submit to death and die by bully not bite. Beth, this girl has no other purpose other than to push Hershel and Maggies character forward. Lori will probablly get shot before she has Judith, if she has Judith I feel they wouldn’t want the baby to stick around, the baby will likely die with her mother. The Governer season four finale kill to end the season. Merel will live and disappear again, live and join the crew, die a gruesome fate, the first and last option are the most probable.

Rick, Carl, Glenn, Maggie, Michonne, Andrea, and Daryl are likely our survivors for season five.

  21. The fact Is the next two seasons will widle our survivors down to six or seven people.

    • dude, please use a spoiler warning before giving such details on the comics. Like at the top of the post. I was still catching up to the comics.

      • he should use a spell checker too.

        • oh RandomInternetGuy, please quit being a grammar nazi and leave people be!..your opinion isn’t needed. And it is downright rude to be pointing out others mistakes just to make yourself feel better.

ok, I had my rant I’m good now

back to more The walking dead talk…. eeek!!!! I love this show

  22. i think t-dog will be killed by merle cuz of what he did to him, rick will lose his mind and shot lori

  23. I hope to god it’s not Herschel, Daryl, Rick, T-dog, Maggie or Glenn. The rest can go for all I care, especially Carl. Look up liability in the dictionary and there’s Carl Grimes’ picture.

  24. Oh my god its properly the son carl hes been a retard the last episodes

  25. I’m glad shane is dead thow

    • I’m not. I liked Shane a lot.

  26. Shane is dead, Rick is the new badass, this season is gonna rock!

  27. My predictions:

The major characters in the show are the ones listed in the main sequence (i.e. the photos, the door turning, etc.), so that initially discounts Carol and T Dog as the major character deaths. In season 3, I expect Hershel to get bitten on the leg (like Dale did in the comics), and then his leg amputated (remember when they said something happens to someone in the show like it happened in the comics; only with a different character). So Hershel will be sporting a peg leg. I do not see Andrea dying, although it’s possible (you never know what happens in this show). Beth is a definite death for season 3. Though I wish mouth-breather Maggie would be killed, as she adds nothing to the group… they’re not going to kill her because she JUST got bumped up to a series regular. Glenn is safe for a couple more seasons. T Dog will probably die season 4. Lori will die later season 3 or season 4. Daryl will last until season 5 or 6. Rick isn’t going anywhere as far as I’m concerned.

So deaths for season 3, are as follows:
First half: Beth, a couple inmates, a couple of the Governor’s henchmen.
    Second half: Hershel, Carol.
Maybes: T Dog, Merle, Carl, Lori
Hopefuls: LORI LORI LORI MAGGIE LORI LORI MAGGIE LORI CARL…and Lori.

Unless the kid that plays Carl learns how to act, I will be praying for Carl’s death.

  28. We know who the main character is going to be…Lori. Glenn had said “recenlty a actress came and said she wanted to die the same way in the comic, which will most likely happen this season.” and it was Loris character that said it Serah. So she is more than likely gone this season she wants to be. Also I don’t see them killing Rick, Carl, T-Dog, Daryl, Carol, Andrea, Michonne, Maggie, Glenn now I see them killing Hershel and Beth which actually in the preview where Lori is holding Beth back I think something happened to Hershel just my thought.

  29. Maggie isnt a mouth breather. I dont think they should kill anyone else or they won’t have anyone left on the show. For all you Lori haters-have any of you thought how killing Lori, her baby and Carl will affect RICK???? He loves them all, they are his reason for fighting to stay alive. You take them away and RICK won’t be RICK anymore. He would probably be worse than SHANE in the jerk department. Or he would just give up and let himself get killed too. He would feel responsible for their deaths no matter how it happens. Sorry guys but they can’t kill Lori. I love Darryl too, he is one of the best parts of the show. He was on a few episodes of Charmed. He was one of Paige’s many love interest. His name was Nate and Paige really liked him so she cast the truth spell on him to see how he would feel about her being a witch. She found out he was married and had two kids. I believe it was the beginning of Season 5.

    • Do you guys think morgan will come back to play?

    • **kind of Comics Spoiler’s*** haha

brabbit47, in the comics after Lori’s death he is stricken for a while. Kind of even looses his marbles a bit ( talking to a dead Lori on an unplugged phone) but because Lori/judith died, Rick evolves. His Characters persona darkens and he becomes more of a badass, and a better leader for the group.\

Carl has already been changing, his mother dying will be the cement that further pushes him towards the character he is born to be( the future leader of the group)

PS: and I so remember that episode from the series Charmed ( I watched every stinking episode of charmed) and Loved it!!!!! Norman Reedus’s 2 episode cameo was fantastic :)

      • And don’t forget Boondocks Saints 1&2.
