The Walking Dead season finale Rick The Walking Dead Season 1 DVD/Blu ray Features; Season 2 Details

It’s been over a month since the curtain fell on the first season of The Walking Dead, but after racking up a Golden Globe nomination for Best Drama Series, as well as a spot on Screen Rant’s Best TV Moments of 2010 list, AMC’s critically acclaimed zombie-drama is just getting started.

Today we’ve got fresh details on what to expect from The Walking Dead Season 1 DVD and Blu-ray releases – as well as word from the series’ creator (and executive producer) regarding where the show is headed in season 2.

At the beginning of December we took a look back at season 1 of The Walking Dead, as well as speculated on some of the more subtle moments of the series to forecast what writer-director, Frank Darabont, might focus on in season 2 – specifically fan-favorite villain, The Governor.

Recently, Walking Dead creator, Robert Kirkman, spoke with USA Today, and revealed that while The Governor is certainly on their radar – as far as season 2 is concerned, the series will actually introduce viewers to a fan-favorite hero instead:

“Frank has already hinted at the fact that we’ll be seeing Michonne as early as Season 2. The Governor is probably a little ways off from Season 2 — maybe Season 3 or beyond.”

For anyone unfamiliar with The Walking Dead comic series, Michonne is an especially mysterious member of Rick’s survivor group – a woman in her late 20s or early 30s who dispatches the undead with a katana blade.

Adding Michonne to the cast could also indicate that season 2 will feature “The Prison,” an important setting in the comic series (Michonne was introduced just outside the prison walls). However, anything is possible, since Darabont has already made alterations to The Walking Dead, in order to set the TV series apart from the comic.

Since the The Walking Dead season 2 isn’t set to premiere until October 2011, there’s still plenty of time for more details but, in the mean time, fans of the show will undoubtedly be excited to pick apart the special features on the upcoming season 1 DVD and Blu-ray – set for release on March 8th, 2011.

The season 1 set, released by Anchor Bay Entertainment will include the six episodes from seasons, as well as the aforementioned special features, for $39.98 on DVD and $49.99 on Blu-ray. Obviously, at this point, little is known about the length, or quality, of the special features – and it’s hard to determine how satisfying the offerings will be for series’ fans.

That said, considering the brief length of season 1, hopefully the special features will be enough to justify the cost (the same cost as other TV releases with twice as many episodes – such as Breaking Bad Season 2) – though it’s hard to imagine Walking Dead fans being able to resist shambling to their local big-box retailer to chew-up every last piece of AMC’s critically acclaimed zombie-drama.

  1. Bryan Cranston of Breaking Bad on AMC actually said that AMC may be premiering season 2 of the Walking Dead this summer to avoid competition later on.

    • Take that with a grain of salt. I know people from the show and shooting is not scheduled soon enough to make a July start date. Besides, why would Bryan Cranston know about TWD schedule?

  2. I’m fine waiting for the governor til season 3. I’d love season 2 to give us Tyreese and Michonne but isn’t she a little too early? They still have to go to Hershel’s farm and since they didn’t resolve the Shane/Lori/Rick triangle (a decision I don’t agree with btw) they still have a lot to get to

    • agreed i think she should be nearer the end of season 2 before they find the prision at the end of the season. i guess it all depends on if we get more than the 13 episodes weve been told were getting. i personally dont mind waiting till oct i have all the comics to tide me over.

      • I’m just so excited that they decided to make a season 2!! I absolutely loved Season 1!! Keep up the great work guys!!

  3. Sweet! In the meanwhile, I’m listening to “I’m Alive” the Zombie podcast and watching “Bite me” on Youtube to get my Zombie fix.

  4. Dont forget what we might see may not be what we saw in the books. It has been said time and time again it will not follow the books 100%.

So while we may get a character that is called the Governor we may not get the comic book Governor.

While I think we will get Michonne she may not be as badass as we saw her in the books…

I would much rather be incorrect in my assumption and be surprised and excited getting more then to think they will and dont and get upset.

    • that being said I heard she isnt going to have her trade mark sword, which I disagree with big time. Guys if you do in fact read these post please let her keep her sword

  5. I love The Walking Dead but when will it be out in DVD and Blu Ray because
I’m sick and tried of waiting for this movie to be out

  6. let Michonne keep her sword that’d be soooooo awesome

  7. If she doesn’t keep her sword what’s the point? That is what made her so grimey in the book. You have to keep the essentials of the character even if you are altering the plot. Otherwise why even inlcude her?

It would be real cool if they introduced her like in the comic, walking with two zombies with arms cut off on chains.

  8. When will the walking dead season 2 be released on dvd as we watched the previous series on channel 5 in england and dont get it any more
