In celebration of the series' upcoming 100th episode and season 8 premiere, AMC has released a brief but all-encompassing recap of The Walking Dead that highlights all of the big moments from the zombie pop culture phenomenon.

The Walking Dead, however controversial and polarizing among television fans in this "Golden Age" of the medium, is undoubtedly one of the top five most popular shows of its era. Since 2010, it has drawn millions of viewers weekly to its adaptation of the bleak, apocalyptic landscape created by Robert Kirkman in comic form. The past decade and 99 episodes have been slow-moving but shocking pieces of zombie-fueled action and drama, as fans have cheered fan favorites like Daryl Dixon and Carol Peletier and mourned the loss of several other beloved characters. The show has already released a "Thank You" video for the fans, but this new video is meant for those looking to catch up and remember the good (or not-so-good) times of the series so far.

In this new recap, posted by AMC in celebration of the upcoming 100th episode in the season 8 premiere, fans of the series get to experience all of the highs and lows that Rick Grimes and the characters of the show have endured throughout the run. In the span of three and a half minutes, we get to see all of the major eras of The Walking Dead, as the team has bounced from the CDC to Hershel's Farm to the prison fortress to Terminus to Alexandria and so on and so forth, doing their best to avoid carnage at the hands of brain-eating zombies and psychopathic human adversaries along the way. The video ends with a setup for the upcoming season, with all-out war coming against Jeffrey Dean Morgan's villainous Negan and his band of murderous travelers.

Despite some questionable background music, what this video best illustrates is just how much chaos and destruction The Walking Dead has wrought in its airtime. Despite its somewhat repetitive nature, it's hard to not watch this video if you've been a fan of the series at some point and feel crushed all over again as the likes of Shane, Lori, Beth, Hershel, Glenn and Abraham bite the dust. In this unforgiving universe, which is showing no signs of slowing down anytime soon, death feels inescapable for our main characters, and with The Walking Dead showing no signs of ending anytime soon, that reality feels inevitable.

It's always impressive to see a show reach a milestone like 100 episodes. It took The Walking Dead longer than most shows to reach that plateau due to its abridged episode numbers per season, but it's quite the feat nonetheless (It also really puts into perspective how incredible The Simpsons'  600-plus episode run is). The video does indulge in a bit of celebration alongside the doom and gloom of the past, as we get to revel in the bonds and love that these characters have grown into due to their intimate shared experiences and survival pacts. We'll see where The Walking Dead takes these characters next when season 8 premieres.
