With the phenomenal success of The Flash last year, along with strong numbers from the third season of Arrow, the course has been set for an ever-expanding, shared DC Universe on The CW. With DC's Legends of Tomorrow set to premiere in 2016, that world is already getting crowded with beloved characters from the comics. At the rate the network is going, there's a chance fans will be seeing all of their favorites at some point in the near future.

Before The Flash or Arrow return, The CW is further expanding that universe with the animated series Vixen. Premiering on CW Seed, the channel's digital network for original programming, the show will follow Mari McCabe (Megalyn Echikunwoke) as she struggles to understand the mystical powers she's inherited. The show will be the first animated tie-in to the universe, but assuming it's successful it could pave the way for further entries on the platform.

The CW has released the first trailer for the upcoming series at San Diego Comic-Con 2015. You can check out the video above. The trailer provides a good introduction to the character and her powers, but the overall plot is still something of a mystery.

The trailer opens with Oliver Queen and Barry Allen (voiced by Stephen Amell and Grant Gustin, respectively), as they attempt to confront Vixen. By utilizing the same actors that portray the characters in live-action, CW has solidified the series standing in their shared universe. Flash series regular Cisco Ramon (Carlos Valdes) also makes an appearance in the trailer, fulfilling his usual role of assigning code names to all metahumans.

Vixen Comic Con Trailer DC Comics

As is typically the case in a comic book superhero team-up, Flash and Arrow immediately come into conflict with Vixen. Though the heroes will likely realize they're on the same side by the end, it would be interesting for Vixen's story if she was being pressed from every side. There are expectations that these established heroes are the "good guys", but taking Vixen's point of view could showcase new sides to these heroes. The conflict emphasizes the true extent of her powers when the two heroes together are unable to stop her. At this point, she might be the most powerful hero in CW's DC Universe.

The character has been getting quite a bit of attention lately, with Jada Pinkett Smith recently stating she would like to bring the character to the big screen. The six-part animated series could very well be the first step in testing the character for wider distribution. If fans fall in love with the character, it's not out of the realm of possibility that actress Megalyn Echikunwoke could bring Vixen to life on either The Flash or Arrow.

Vixen premieres exclusively on CW Seed on August 25th, 2015.
