Give ‘em Hell, Malone is a noir throwback film that is going to be premiering at Cannes in a couple of weeks, and we here at Screen Rant have the first trailer for the film [WARNING: it's a red-band trailer, strictly for adults only!!!].
The film stars Thomas Jane and Ving Rhames, as a private dick and a gangster respectively, each on the hunt for a suitcase containing a mysterious secret which (if I’ve understood the trailer correctly) will instantly remind noir-lovers of the classic noir film, Kiss Me Deadly.

Star Wars fans pay special attention while you watch the trailer: there’s a little symphonic Easter-egg buried in there just for you guys.
Two things I instantly like about this movie: first, the fact that the guy locked in the trunk of the car says “Suck my Sinatra,” (1:55); second, the side-boob shot of actress Elsa Pataky (Snakes on a Plane) (1:38). Yum.

The lovely Elsa Pataky plays the femme fatale in Give ‘em Hell Malone.
Seriously though, am I crazy or do the characters in the trailer keep referring to what’s in the briefcase as “the meaning of love?” If that is the case (no pun), then Give ‘em Hell Malone really is going to be like a modern-day version of Kiss Me Deadly, which famously had the box containing what was basically Armageddon inside of it. Classic. The meaning of love would kind of be the antithesis of that.
This trailer may have also given me my first official catchphrase of 2009: “Next time there’s a new guy, tell ‘em to let the big, bad, black muthaf@#%a go.” Double classic.
Give ‘em Hell Malone was written by Mark Hosack and directed by Russell Mulcahy (Highlander). It also stars Chris Yen, French Stewart, Doug Hutchison, Leland Orser, Eileen Ryan, Gregory Harrison and David Andriole. It’s currently slated for release some time in 2009.
What do you think of the first trailer?

Looks like a lot of fun.
This is great! Thomas Jane is really a good actor for this, and his Punisher is so underrated. Ving Rhames, what can be said about the man that has not been said? He is great! And Russell Mulcahy is really a fun director, his choices of cuts and how he sets the tempo is great. I really enjoyed the Dolph Lundgren film he did, Silent Trigger, and also RE: Extinction, a major step up from part 2.
This film, as INK says, looks a lot of fun and the subject matter is something I love as well. Don’t see these types of films anymore.
” you think you want it rough Malone? You don’t.. you want it soft just like the rest of us”
SOLD! lol love that line..
Love those old 1940s film noir movies and this looks like a great throwback to those. Must see for me.
Vic
Looks like it could be fun. But I can’t get over how amateur the direction looks. And they used the music from Return of the Jedi (when Luke is about to drop in the sarlaac pit) in the trailer.
This looks like a made-for-tv or direct-to-dvd movie.
LudoTek,
I think the film is trying to emulate the styles of 40’s Noir, which was amatuer looking with low production values because they made the films for like $1 and in like 1 week. That’s an exaggeration but you know what I mean.
Looks pretty fun
im with VIC this is a must see.
looks fun.
and i consider thomas jane a pretty good actor.
PS
is it just me or do i see an X-treem simularity between tom Jane & christopher Lambert ?
if there is ever a Hilander REboot
(i hope not the original was soo good)
Jane should play connor MCleod.
Just a thought.
!!!!!!!!!THERE CAN BE ONLY ONE !!!!!!
I hadn’t heard of this one before but it looks really fun.
I love the whole hard boiled film noir gumshoe angle.
As for Ving Rhames- he’s awesome , I’ve liked him in everything I’ve seen him
@ Brodie Bruce – you’re right
Jane looks like Lamberts bigger tougher brother lol
I Love the Johnny Cash tune playing throughout the trailer..
Epic win. I can’t wait for this film. Anyone know when it will go on wide release?
Looks like a fun film, will check it out.
