Groot vs. The Hulk

Guardians of the Galaxy boasts some of the funniest, most colorful comic book characters to be translated to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Much of the main cast could be in line for appearances in the upcoming Avengers: Infinity War. One duo that appears tailor-made for their own starring vehicle, however, is the friendship of Rocket Raccoon (voiced by Bradley Cooper) and humanoid tree Groot (voiced by Vin Diesel).

The on-screen chemistry between Rocket and Groot, despite each being fully CGI characters, is one of the driving forces of Guardians of the Galaxy’s appeal and the team is sure to continue to bring plenty of laughs and thrills in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 -- if the new trailer is any indication. But if director James Gunn had his way, he’d eventually helm a new movie starring Rocket and Groot in the lead roles. Vin Diesel implied in a new interview that Gunn is serious about making a spinoff happen.

In a new video by ScreenJunkies News, Diesel is shown in an interview from the Comic-Con Experience in Brazil in which he speaks about what he’d like to see as far as Guardians of the Galaxy spinoffs. Of course, he’d like to make a Rocket and Groot spinoff movie after Avengers: Infinity War, as would Gunn. But he also brought up an intriguing showdown, hinting that Groot will take on the Hulk in a future MCU movie.

"I think if it’s up to James Gunn, you are going to see a Groot and Rocket movie after Infinity War. I think that’s highly possible. We shall see. I know that, somewhere in the universe, you are going to see Groot and Hulk battle. You can write it somewhere. You are going to see that poster: Hulk vs. Groot.”

Rocket Raccoon and Groot

The already-considerable popularity of the Guardians of the Galaxy franchise will inevitably spill over into Infinity War, but where the group goes beyond that is anyone’s guess. If Gunn continues to put out quality work with the series and still desires to make a spinoff with Rocket and Groot, there’s little reason to believe the spinoff wouldn’t one day become a reality. The duo is certainly the kind of team-up that would work well in their own adventure.

As for Groot battling the Hulk, it’s unclear how serious or knowledgeable Diesel really is on the subject. But if the fight really is going to happen, it would likely take place in Infinity War or the as-yet untitled fourth Avengers movie in some capacity. Diesel’s “poster” comment implies that the two would get yet another spinoff of their own, but that seems too far down the road to predict at this point. What’s certain is that news of an official Rocket and Groot spinoff would likely be well-received.
