chronicles of riddick 3 Vin Diesel Talks Chronicles Of Riddick 3

The folks over at Gamespot had a one-on-one phone interview with Vin Diesel to discuss his new video game, Chronicles of Riddick: Assault on Dark Athena, and in the interview the topic of a third live-action Chronicles of Riddick movie came up.

In the interview, the question about writing complexities for the game with regards to story implications of a potential third movie was raised and Diesel responded:

Good question. Maybe we’re too tight-lipped about the next Chronicles of Riddick film, and I think circa the release of [Dark Athena] that’s probably when you’ll start hearing more about the next Riddick film. It is underway and I almost think it’s a coincidence that we haven’t heard anything, that there hasn’t been a lot of public stuff on the Riddick movie.

Later in the conversation, Diesel said that the writer of the first two films; Pitch Black and Chronicles of Riddick, David Twohy, is currently finishing up the script while he (Vin) has been working away hard on this game.

Diesel is very passionate about the Riddick character and he personally had a big hand in the development of the previous game in the series titled Chronicles of Riddick: Escape from Butcher Bay which received critical acclaim upon release. He went as far as creating his own development company, Tigon Studios, to assist in games that he’s involved in.

I really enjoyed Pitch Black and while many disliked its sequel, I also enjoyed it despite some obvious faults – Vic’s review of The Chronicles of Riddick closely matches what mine would have been. I look forward to see him return to his most iconic role and to see what lies ahead for Riddick.

What do you think?

  1. THANK YOU!!! Man, I have been waiting for another Riddick movie. Like you, I enjoyed the 2nd movie even though there were some problems with it. Hopefully, the writer will iron out these problems with the next one. I always wondered why they just stopped after Riddick killed the UnderVerse leader and became ruler. They should have ended it with Riddick telling them he doesn’t want to rule anyone and giving the sceptre to the soldier who tried to kill the leader.

    Me want more Riddick!!!

  2. I can’t wait for the new game or the movie. This is the role Vin Diesel was born for.

  3. Pitch Black was a great movie and I also like Chronicles, but not nearly as much as PB. It’ll be good to see Diesel back in the role he was made for. I’d much rather see him back as Riddick than back in that god-awful Fast and the Furious series…oh, wait….

  4. I enjoyed Chronicles for what it was, but it was a terrible sequel to a great movie. I’m only interested in seeing a another sequel if the series goes back to its roots.

  5. Pitch Black was AWESOME! Chronicles was fun, but I am so jazzed about my main man coming to a 3rd, and hopefully, much better Riddick movie!!!! Go Vin Diesel, he’s da’ man!!! Now if he could get a good movie role? I wonder what a good role for Vin would be?

  6. @Bruce
Thor? He has the build but can he do the Asgardian talk?

  7. Awesome! I think you guys are the first group of people I have found who enjoyed Chronicles. It’s nice not to be alone.

  8. Cool… we need to form a club!

I don’t think I can see him as Thor only because he has such an image that doesn’t quite fit that visage already… it would be hard to wrap my mind around it.

  9. Definitely not for Thor, nooo way

  10. Ok. Conan?

  11. Eh. Too civilized looking… again, he’d need hair… unless it’s a re-imagining… ug, I didn’t say that.

  12. Vin doesn’t look right with hair.

  13. I seem to remember reading an article just after Chronicles of Riddick was released that Twohy had envisioned a trilogy for Riddick’s character that started with COR with two more sequels to follow…I mention this because in the interview Twohy stated he doubted another movie would be made let alone two more because of the failure of COR at the box office.( COR made 58 million domestic and another 58 million internationally but cost 105 million to produce not including P+A budget as well)..This is great news as Pitch Black is one of my all-time favorite Sci-Fi films and I enjoyed COR as well..no the story and quality in terms of script were not comparable to PB but I still had(and have) a good time when I watch Diesel as the Riddick character..

    Great news!!

  14. Hooray, hooray! I love the Riddick Chronicles and I’ve been waiting for news and details of the third movie for years now! =3

    Mwahahahaha. More Riddick. Happy fangirlism.

  15. Would you have awaken from hypersleep, attracted by his scent as well? ;-)

  16. Ever since I’ve seen the director’s cut of all three Riddick films, I’ve been a fan of the character and I’m glad that Diesel is talking about the third installment and hopefully it’ll be MILES AHEAD of that piece of garbage that was Babylon A.D.

  17. I have also been waiting for years to see another. I for one loved the second and liked the first
    Pitch Black 3.5/5
    Chronicles of riddick 5/5
The chronicles of riddick is my second favorite movie behind only Die Hard. Also i dont see plot hole very well and i dont care about them much either.

  18. aye I enjoyed riddick despite some flaws, i love the butcher bay xbox game. i thought the first pitch black was far superior to the 2nd (also bombing at the box office and with critics). i liked chronicles far more than terminator salvation (and wished the convict role would have gone to Vin).
Its a fresh approach and not many anti heroes who act heroic are out thier as most of that genre stopped after clint eastwood sphegetti westerns.
I hope they take a note how popular butcher bay is and make some stint of that, or make a prequel movie after the third (love to see an escape from butcher bay movie).

  19. Riddick is totally awsome!! dude, i can't wait till it comes out!
