chronicles of riddick 3 Diesel & Twohy Talk Riddick 3 With Potential Buyers

Richard B. Riddick, everyone’s favorite night-vision equipped Furyan tough guy, will soon be heading back to the big screen in the aptly titled Riddick.

Collider snagged a video of director David Twohy and star Vin Diesel pitching the film to potential buyers. The video, which included footage from the previous Riddick films and games as well as some new concept art, has since been taken down, but we can still give you the gist of Twohy’s presentation and reveal some possible new plot information for the film.

In Twohy’s remarks, he made sure to note that Riddick would definitely be R-rated, describing the film as “visceral.” The concept art shown during the presentation matched this description, featuring a variety of snarling aliens and some very cool weaponry.

While we’ve known that Riddick would be R-rated for a while now, it’s nice to hear Twohy really hammering that point home. You get the sense that both he and Diesel want to move far from the unpopular second film, The Chronicles of Riddick, and return to something gritty and violent.

Based off of the presentation, Collider put together this possible synopsis of Riddick‘s plot.

In the upcoming third installment of the popular sci-fi franchise, Riddick gets betrayed by the Necromonger army and is left for dead on a desolate planet. He has to fight for survival against alien predators and must deal with two squads of bounty hunters, who are coming after him to collect the bounty for the most wanted man in the galaxy.

This synopsis more or less meshes with the plot summary we shared last month (along with some Riddick concept art) as well as an early review of Riddick‘s script.

Honestly, I’m just happy to see that they aren’t going with the ridiculous title, Chronicles of Riddick: Dead Man Stalking. This movie should be about Riddick, period. Forget about any convoluted mythology, just drop the character on a deserted planet and let him fight his way out. That’s what the fans want to see, and it looks like that’s what Twohy and Diesel want to deliver.

FYI – We aren’t featuring any of the concept art here because it was taken from a leaked video.

What do you think of Riddick? Are you ready to get back into the series?

  1. Loved ‘Pitch Black’, loved the space opera-esque ‘Chronicles of Riddick’, excited to see we may possibly get another movie.

  2. Pitch Black was the best! Didnt really like the chronicles of riddick. Im glad they’re going back to putting Riddick on a desolate planet with planet predators fighting for his survival.

  3. It is about time. Pitch Black is one of those movies that no one saw coming. Riddick is such a interesting character. The second film gave you a better understanding of him and his background, so I didn’t mind that film so much. I think it lost me with the Necromongers and though they do play a significant role in Riddicks past,It wasn’t what I was expecting for his second movie. I’m really glad that they are giving this another shot and being that he’s a killer rated R is the way to go.

  4. 1: Pitch Black
    2: The Chronicles of Riddick
    3: Riddick

Something about the pattern of those titles seems very off to me. I hope they don’t call it that.

  5. Riddick: The Outcast Then make the next one Riddick: The Fugitive. The one after that Riddick: The Heretic then the blockbuster that causes Riddick to take up the banner and invade the underverse. Appropriately called Riddick: Underverse…

  6. I like Vin even though hes made some bad ones like BABYLON AD but I believe this sequel they are itching is definately NOT the way to moev away from the second film. Now I liked CHRONICLES OF RIDDICK and I know that I’m only one of 7, maybe 8 who did like it. That said I can see why many however did not like it. Just because my tastes are not as hard to please as many that doesn’t mean I can’t see when something is going to be rejected by many with harder to please tastes in movies.

What theyt need to do is go back to either before PITCH BLACK or after PITCH BLACK but before CHRONICLES and follow his advetures at that point. By the time we are at the end of CHRONICLES, the Riddick character has softened up some, maybe too much.

They need to go back to Riddicks earlier roots, before he got softer. Kind of like how Rodriguez has gone back to the roots of PREDATOR for his movie.
