It’s a play on the previous title as explained to you. I realize it’s a misuse of the negative. I get it. Got a degree and grad degree in this craft, my friend.

Running a publication isn’t always as simple as the grammatical rules.

No I didn’t misunderstand. Like I said it’s a stylistic interjection as opposed to grammatical correctness. They could equally have went with “Viggo Mortensen to quit acting, NOT!” which is grammatically as bad but portrays much the same message.

The point being it is the wordplay of paralleling the original headline with the new information that it isn’t happening. Aye, theres the rub.

@Jordi… You misunderstand…it’s a question of where the ‘not’ goes. The ‘to’ and the verb (quit) shouldn’t be separated, they should be together. As in ‘To be, or not to be’ from Shakespeare. It isn’t ‘to be or to not be’…. Get my point?

I personally rate him very highly and will watch a movie I otherwise wouldn’t have if he’s in it. I’d say one of the best actors of his generation but at 51 I’m not too sure who else is in it!

As for the “I quit!” remarks, I must have said that a thousand and one times about my job when it all hits the fan. I’m sure most people have said they’ve had enough in their job too, we’re just lucky enough not to have a news crew following us reporting on our every word…

The headline is (probably) in response to the previous “Viggo Mortensen to quit acting!” headline and so makes stylistic sense more than grammatical sense.

Glad he’s sticking around. Horrible bad grammar in your headline though. It should be ‘Viggo Mortenson NOT to quit acting’, but as even that sounds clumsy how about saying:’Viggo Mortensen NOT quitting acting’.
