A return for fan-favorite Adult Swim series The Venture Bros. is in the midst of official talks at HBO Max. First premiering in 2003 on Adult Swim, The Venture Bros. rolled out its first season a year later and, over the course of the next fourteen years, debuted seven seasons. The series was initially envisioned as a satire of the sci-fi stories found in the early 1960s, though over the years it has grown into its own thing. The Venture Bros. season 7 aired in 2018, and it was expected to return for an eighth run sometime after. Producers Jackson Publick and Doc Hammer had even begun work on season 8, but Adult Swim unfortunately cancelled The Venture Bros. in September.

Fans were understandably disappointed by this development, but it wasn't long until they received some hope that The Venture Bros. could find new life. In the same breath of the cancellation announcement, it was reported that there were early talks for HBO Max to produce The Venture Bros. season 8. Little updates came beyond that, though in October, a new development emerged when Adult Swim indicated it would be willing to create a finale special for the series.

Right now, though, it seems more likely that HBO Max would be interested in reviving the beloved series. HBO Max executive Andy Forssell took to social media to reveal he's received countless messages from Venture Bros. fans (who he calls "passionate, but incredibly civil.") likely asking for more of the show. Forssell then confirmed that while nothing is happening just yet, actual talks appear to be ongoing. "Nothing imminent, but know that we're working on it," he wrote, much to the delight of hopeful fans.

While it's not the same as a definitive yes, it's a comfort to know HBO Max is still considering new episodes of The Venture Bros. The streaming service has already made some fan dreams come true with the upcoming release of Zack Snyder's Justice League, and perhaps they can do it again with The Venture Bros. For their part, Publick and Hammer seem keen on finishing the story they left dangling at the end of season 7, which saw a number of game-changing developments. With their (very polite) fanbase behind them, it feels like The Venture Bros. stands a good chance of finding new life.

When these talks could actually reach a conclusion remains to be seen, but fans should brace for it to take some time. It sounds like HBO Max is just as eager to make a Venture Bros. revival happen, so perhaps the negotiations are just down to the final conditions. On the other hand, it could still be a long time before they're finished. The Venture Bros. clearly has lot more stories to tell, and it would be exciting if HBO Max could pick it up. Right now, fans just have to stay hopeful and continue with their kind messages. It sounds like they're working.
