The new news is that it's a completely normal occurrence for a new series still finding its groove and even happened with Grey's Anatomy - a now multi-Emmy Award winning series about to enter season 5 or 6. The rumour is that the writing team and filming production were getting too close together - no doubt due to the premiere being brought forward from February 2010 to this November - and putting filming on hold allows the series to avoid rushed scripts and basically becoming average well before it rightfully should. Makes sense to me. The shooting hold up is old news. Kenneth Johnson's original miniseries (and followup miniseries) were pretty tightly crafted, but when it came to the spinoff series, it quickly devolved into a mindless, implausible space-soap-opera.
