Upside Down is the new sci-fi/romance concept film that envisions an existence where the (literal) worlds of luxury and poverty are separated by the laws of physics and gravity. Amidst this strange reality, two young lovers from each world -  Adam (Jim Sturgess) and Eden (Kirsten Dunst) - spark a love that will haunt them for the next ten years - when Adam decides to literally turn his world upside-down and travel "up above" in order to reclaim his lost Eden (see what I did there?).

The big debut film of relative newcomer Juan Solanas, Upside Down's high-concept-meets-romance story has already generated buzz amongst certain circles of cinephiles. In addition to the trailer above, we have a new clip from the film that you can view below.

The rest of the cast is made up of mostly seen-them-somewhere character actors or faces (like Harry Potter alum Timothy Spall); however, it's clearly Sturgess, Dunst and the visual concept/effects that are the centerpieces of this show.

For all its visual metaphor, however, Upside Down still seems, at its core, to be a relatively traditional spin on the "Romeo & Juliet" formula. Thankfully, the visuals pack enough richness and imagination to distinguish this from the crowd of romance flicks.

Check out the clip, which features more of the verbal entendres that are sure to define the metaphorical and thematic subtext of the film:

Are you getting the whole "down below, up above" metaphor? Are you sure it's not too vague? (Sarcasm)

In all seriousness, Upside Down looks, at the very least, like a fun experiment in filmmaking - one that will hopefully not leave us feeling dizzy and nauseous (for whatever reason).
