‘Underworld Awakening’ Star Michael Ealy Talks Big Stunts & Being Human

Michael Ealy in Underworld Awakening Underworld Awakening Star Michael Ealy Talks Big Stunts & Being Human

The fourth instillation in the Underworld franchise, Underworld Awakening, opened in theaters this weekend (read our review). Co-directors Måns Mårlind and Björn Stein bring vampire warrioress Selene (Kate Beckinsale) back to the big screen under the guidance of creator (and producer) Len Wiseman (who was unable to direct as he was otherwise engaged helming the remake of Total Recall). There had, of course, been a breif turn away from Selene and her brethren with the Underworld prequel, Underworld: Rise of the Lycans in 2009.

Underworld Awakening finds Selene…awakening after a 12-year sleep to find her underworld turned asunder. The humans have discovered the existence of the vampires and their mortal enemies, the Lycans, and have made it their mission to purge the world of the supernatural creatures. Selene, a “death-dealer,” becomes the protector of a child (Eve) who carries the fate of the species within her.

Actor Michael Ealy co-stars in the film as a human cop who who is swept up in the battle raging before him, which the actor reports is filled with “viscous and dirty” fighting. We had the chance to speak with Ealy about stepping into an established property, what the addition of the human element brings, the stunts (which he says –as a human character –made him feel somewhat “inadequate and borderline pissed”) and the allure of getting bitten in a vampire film.

Take a look at our interview with Michael Ealy below:

Also available is our previous interview with Underworld series star Kate Beckinsale.

I love Michael Ealy! Such an underrated actor. I’ve had no interest in Underworld before now. I’ll go see it to support him.
