Underworld 4 Gets A Writer, Confirmed As Sequel

Kate Beckinsale's Selene in Second Underworld Trilogy

The Heat Vision Blog reported yesterday that John Hlavin, a writer from the series The Shield, has signed on to write the script for Underworld 4.

They’re also reporting that Kate Beckinsale, star of the first two films and poster girl of the franchise has yet to sign on and they do not have a director. However, Hlavin does confirm that the film is a sequel and that it will definitely appeal to fans of the first movies.

Check out what Hlavin says below which definitely hint at the fan-favorite character making a return.

“I can tell you it’s not a prequel… It will satisfy old fans and excite new audiences, meaning that we don’t want to redo the first three movies, so steps are being taken to honor what fans have loved but at the same time introduce fresh elements.”

What we also know about the franchise as reported in August and September is that Underworld 4 will be in 3D, it will kickstar a second trilogy of films for the franchise and it will likely bring back Kate Beckinsale. It was already reported back then by some with reliable sources that the movies will again center on Beckinsale’s character of Selene so none of this comes as a shock.

Don’t be surprised to find out in the near future that Kate will be back. There’s been no talk of Scott Speedman and his character Michael Corvin however.

    Underworld series has it's dodgy parts here and there but they are some good entertainment. Beckinsale's character looks awesome in the sunlight when she sparkles and glides up trees in foggy forests. Oh wait... that's Twilight. That doesn't have any vampires in it, well i don't recall seeing any.
  • Underworld 2 was a disaster. Even 3 was an improvement. I wont be going to the cinema to see a fourth part, but I will most likely rent it, if Kate Beckinsale is in it.

    Beckinsale or not I'll rent it. 2 was all action but it wasn't horrible Sam.

  • In all fairness I have only seen 2 once, and I do own it, just didnt enjoy it. I felt the first film had a good energy to it, and while Vampire films can never be original, I liked the way it was made.

  • And so far what films have genuinely benefitted from being in 3D? The only films I ever want to see in 3D are the Star Wars trilogies.

    I'm with you on the 3d has yet to make any movie better point, and in the early stages (year or so ago) all it did was give me a headache... I have to admit that I am looking foward to the IMax 3D release of Tron Legacy though. That could be very cool. I also agree that the first is by far the best of these. I'm hoping that we get a more similar story line.

    lol 3d come on hollywood tht dosent make me wanna c it let alone pay more to c it.first 2 were good bc of beckinsale of course, im down if she comes back she just looks to good in black leather to miss.
  • What is the main reason anyone goes to see these films? I'm not ashamed to admit it, Its Kate beckinsale in leather, that is all we need to see from a sequel. Unless the 3D involves her nipples......

  • I was hoping it would be prequel and not a sequel, but whatever. I'm in either way. As for the 3D part.....GIMMICK.

    nowdays most of the film is going 3D,i don't know why? but many producer and studio enjoy making 3D film and i heard oprah also going 3D!

    I wish Lucien hadn't died in the first one. I really enjoyed seeing him again in the third one. He is the best character in the series, IMO.

    I agree that Lucien was a great character.

    Plain and simple,no Kate,no 10 bucks from me.And furthermore,if they do decide to make a sequel without Kate,it might as well go straight to DVD,because it will be a box office flop I'm sure.

    I have to admit,I really don't think that there is any story left,so I'm interested to see what they can pull out of their @ss in three more movies.

    I was joking about the 3D and that's why the wink is there. It's not a selling point for me either.

    That being said, I've seen all three Underworlds in theaters and I go for the action.

    Enjoyed the first two films..haven't seen the third..Kate is great, not hard on the eyes and can carry an action film..hope they do bring her back...at least they are a helluva lot better then the Twilight movies...

    I think all the underworld movies are wonderful, I would luv 2 see more of them,amelia.then how selene and viktor relation ship came abt,then come into her and michael relationship is going to control the species.
