Given the popularity of Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt‘s freshman season, it’s hardly a surprise that celebrities are now lining up to guest star in season 2 – including its co-creator, Tina Fey. Though Netflix notoriously doesn’t release viewing figures, it’s easy to tell from social media alone that Kimmy Schmidt has won a place in the hearts of many. Starring Ellie Kemper as the titular Kimmy, the show follows her after she is released from an underground bunker where she has been kept for fifteen years as part of a cult. The sweetly charming yet wickedly funny first season then followed Kimmy as she moved to New York, found a roommate in the flamboyantly gay Titus (Tituss Burgess), and also landed a job as an assistant to the neurotic rich socialite Jacqueline (Jane Krakowski).
Fey and co-creator Robert Carlock originally wrote Kimmy Schmidt with an view to airing it on NBC, but the channel decided it wasn’t a good fit, and so it became part of Netflix’s original programming schedule. It quickly became one of the breakout hits of 2015, and two more seasons were subsequently ordered. Now the much hyped season 2 world wide premier is almost upon us, and the Netflix promotional team are in overdrive, releasing teasers, trailers, promos, posters and now, new stills from Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt season 2.
Seen in the gallery below, the stills highlight an array of guest stars, including Jeff Goldblum, Fred Armisen, Anna Camp, Amy Sedaris, Zosia Mamet, Evan Jonigkeit, David Cross and Tina Fey. The images also highlight Kimmy’s new job working in a holiday themed store, Titus confronting his past (which includes a wife), and Lillian finding romance. There’s also a wheelbarrow full of puppies, which is all kinds of awesome.
Goldblum will guest star as Dr. Dave, a talk show host who wants the scoop on the Mole Women, while Sedaris reprises her role of Mimi (from Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt season 1); Jacqueline’s friend who is also a divorcee determined to climb the social ladder once more. Pictured boozing with Kimmy, Fey will play therapist Andrea, while Mamet and Jonigkeit play hipsters who want to gentrify Lillian’s neighborhood. They don’t stand a chance. Armisen will be a flame from Lillian’s past with ulterior motives. Finally, both Cross and Camp will mainly interact with Krakowski’s Jacqueline, with Cross playing a Jewish lawyer and Camp a socialite who is determined to outdo Jacqueline at every turn.
All in all, Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt season 2 is gearing up to bring us plenty more laughs, lots more of our favorite characters as well as plenty of new ones and yet again, Kimmy will prove herself as unbreakable, because we all know; females are strong as hell.
Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt season 2 will premiere on Netflix on April 15th, 2016
