Shortly after the launch of season three, Netflix has announced they've renewed Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt for a fourth season. Netflix is all about original content and has built up the tendency of keeping their shows alive for multiple seasons regardless of their genre. They've had success with Marvel superheroes, dramas, and more, but have also found comedy to be a strong suit as well. This can be partly attributed to the success they've seen Kimmy Schmidt have over the first three seasons.

Season three debuted last month and received incredibly high praise for its comedy and continuing to push the characters forward in new directions. It starts with Kimmy Schmidt, played by Ellie Kemper, moving on to college and then out of it, and audiences will have the chance to see much more of her life in the future.

Netflix officially announced that Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt will return for a fourth season. No tentative release accompanied this announcement, but sometime in 2018 should be plausible. Even though the cast has not been announced either, Kemper will be back and so too should be Tituss Burgess, Carol Kane, and Jane Krakowski.

Whereas season three largely devoted Kimmy's arc to trying to discover what her purpose in life should be and the career she should go after, her time in college both begins and ends over the course of a single season. However, it was not a wasted time as one of her only relationships to come from that experience landed her a job at an upstart company run by a socially awkward young adult. Putting the former mole woman in a position of power should give the creators and writers plenty of new material to explore in season four.

Regardless of how exactly Kimmy handles the pressures of her new job or just working in general, Kimmy Schmidt is at its best when it is breaking down not only Kimmy, but also Titus, Lillian, and Jaqueline, only to build them back up in a new light. If Tina Fey, Robert Carlock, and the fellow writers can work their magic again, there is little reason to believe that the series will see a dip in quality with either the storytelling or the humor in season four.

Season 3 also had the ability to bring in even more high profile actors in limited capacity with the likes of Laura Dern, Ray Liotta, Maya Rudolph, and Daveed Diggs. With the show only continuing to become more popular and earn higher praise, there is a very good chance that season four can include some rather noteworthy guest stars as well.

Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt seasons 1-3 are available in their entirety on Netflix. Season four is currently in development.
