Netflix's Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt is unlike any other show because of its strong sense of optimism, positivity, and friendship. When Kimmy became free after being trapped in a bunker for 15 years, she made the move to New York City to find herself. Along the way, Kimmy made incredible new friends while the other Indiana Mole Women popped in and out of her life.

As colorful and funny as the characters were in Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, they weren't all likable. But is the optimistic Kimmy the best of them all?

Richard Wayne Gary Wayne Was A Cult Leader

Richard Wayne Gary Wayne was one of Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt's most hated supporting characters. As a cult leader, captor, and reverend, he took advantage of four women by convincing them he saved them from an apocalypse when in reality, he was just a kidnapper.

Considering he stole the 15 years from Kimmy, Gretchen, Cyndee, and Donna Maria, Richard is one of the least liked characters on Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt. He also showed no growth throughout the series.

Gretchen Willingly Joined The Cult

Unlike the other Mole Women, Gretchen willingly joined Richard Wayne Gary Wanye's cult. While in the bunker, the others despised the reverend and didn't listen to his ideas. Gretchen on the other hand supported him and continued supporting him after she was rescued.

To make matters worse, Gretchen later joined a new cult before Kimmy saved her. Gretchen had no idea how to be independent and make decisions for herself. Since joining cults wasn't working for her, she later started her own. Gretchen's life was going downhill, regardless of how many times Kimmy tried saving her. In this case, Gretchen is almost as unlikeable as the reverend.

Xanthippe Was Spoiled And Mean

Xanthippe was just 15 years old when Kimmy met her. As Jacqueline's stepdaughter, Xan was running wild. She had all the money in the world, no rules, and no guidance. It wasn't until Kimmy signed on to be a nanny and housekeeper that Xan began to mature.

Even with time, Xan still didn't give Kimmy the respect she deserved. Most of Xan's quotes summed up her personality as shortsighted and privileged. Viewers thought Xan would be nicer to those around her after she got to college because she wasn't as popular there as she was in high school, but that wasn't the case. As fun as her scenes with Kimmy were, Xan wasn't likable.

Donna Maria Lied To Kimmy For Years

Donna Maria was one of the Mole Women. As the oldest woman in the bunker, she didn't connect with the young girls she was forced to live with. Donna Maria also did not speak English, so her time in the bunker was a lonely one.

Shockingly, Kimmy found out years later that Donna Maria did eventually learn English while in the bunker but never told that to the others because she didn't want to talk to them. Donna Maria went on to make a name for herself due to the popularity of her story, but it was unsettling that she was cold to Kimmy, who was one of the more likable characters. Donna Maria changed a lot from the pilot to the finale but not enough to make fans like her more.

Cyndee Adored Kimmy

Cyndee was another Mole Woman who made something of herself after being rescued. While Kimmy didn't want to be known as a Mole Woman, Donna Maria and Cyndee created lives for themselves due to her newfound fame.

In the bunker, Cyndee and Kimmy were the closest. They tried maintaining that friendship when they were free but Cyndee relied on her new fame more than Kimmy did, which separated the two. Regardless of their differences, Cyndee always looked up to Kimmy and relied on their friendship. (They weren't friendship goals like Titus and Kimmy, but they were close.) This side of Cyndee is what made her so likable.

Mikey's Story Was Inspiring

Titus and Mikey in Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt

Mikey was Titus's on-and-off boyfriend and friend. When they admitted they liked each other, Mikey told Titus he had never been with a man before and was suppressing those feelings until he met Titus. With Titus's help, Mikey came out and became who he was always meant to be. His transformation was inspiring, and it was a great storyline in the series.

Mikey's involvement in the series made Titus seem more like the main character. What's better is that Mikey got along great with Lillian and Kimmy. Fans were thrilled to see the couple make it work in the end.

Jacqueline Grew On Fans

Jane Krakowski was behind Jacqueline White, and fans saw the connection between Jacqueline and 30 Rock's Jenna Maroney due to both shows having a similar creative team. Fans of Jenna were drawn to Jacqueline because of this.

At the start, Jacqueline's privileged views were hilarious but not necessarily likable. It wasn't until she and Kimmy got to know each other more that viewers started liking her. Kimmy's optimism and outlook on life changed things for Jacqueline and she became more open and understanding. Her scenes with Kimmy were some of the fans' favorites.

Lillian Was A Badass

Lillian from Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt

Lillian was Kimmy's landlord and friend. She was rough around the edges but had a big heart and was fascinated by Kimmy.

Lilian's trust in Titus and Kimmy made her one of the more likable characters. She also had some of the best quotes in Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt due to her being a diehard New Yorker who spoke her mind. Her dedication to the old ways of New York and living on the edge made her a hilarious character to keep up with.

Titus Was The Funniest Character

Titus doesn't do anything halfway. From singing to fashion design, Titus goes all in. Before meeting Kimmy, he was living in Lillian's basement trying to make ends meet. He always dreamed of being a star but found it harder than he anticipated.

Once he met Kimmy, his dreams slowly started coming true — that was the kind of impact Kimmy had on him. Likewise, Titus taught Kimmy everything she needed to know about modern life in New York since she had been underground for over a decade. Together, Titus and Kimmy were an unstoppable force.

Kimmy Schmidt Was The Heart Of The Show

Kimmy Schmidt is the most liked character in the series. The world is seen through fresh eyes for Kimmy, which made mundane activities seem exciting and electric. She brought color to everyone's life and always saw the good in things. Kimmy was also an excellent problem solver since living in the bunker and this helped her in New York.

Seeing Kimmy grow with new friends, jobs, and love interests was a thrill. She enriched those around her, made the world a better place, and fought for freedom. All these things make her one of the most-liked characters and she even had her own special, Kimmy vs. The Reverend.
