Uma Thurman Talks Kill Bill 3

kill bill the bride Uma Thurman Talks Kill Bill 3

We recently learned that Inglourious Basterds writer/director, Quentin Tarantino is officially planning to do a third installment in his Kill Bill saga. “The Bride will fight again!” shouted QT in his trademark enthusiastic way on the Italian talk show, Talk To Me. He revealed he wants pt. 3 to take place 10 years after the events of Kill Bill Vol.2, presumably so that (SPOILER alert) Vernita Green’s daughter can be old enough to track down The Bride to get revenge for killing her mother right in front of her (that seems the most logical plot for a third movie).

So what does the actress who played the vengeful Bride, Uma Thurman have to say about Kill Bill 3? Well, MTV recently caught up with her while she was promoting her upcoming comedy, Motherhood, and she offered the following:

When asked if she’s talked to Tarantino about Kill Bill 3, and what she knows as the status of it, she said – “We did chat, we did chat… He [Tarantino] has not yet finished the script. I don’t even really know if he’s really started it, although I got a taste of some of his ideas and they are really good.” Unfortunately, she couldn’t give any specific details - “I can’t tell you! I’m sorry!” she said - but she did say that Tarantino has, “started to share with me what he was thinking, and it’s awesome.”

Since Tarantino and Thurman came up with the character of The Bride together (way back in 1994 when they made Pulp Fiction), you’d logically expect that she’d want to be involved with a third movie. And thankfully the actress has said just that – “Yeah, I think it’d be fun!”

That’s all we’ve got as the latest on the Kill Bill 3 front, but since we’re not likely to see the film for a few more years (if we’re taking Tarantino’s “10 years later” thing literally), that’s completely understandable. Even though we’re all pretty confident the next film will be about Vernita Green’s daughter getting revenge on The Bride – and thus Thurman would really have to reprise her role for continuity sake – it’s still nice to hear it from the actress herself that she’s down for a third film.

As for Tarantino having ideas and even a partly-done script, I’m sure that’s somewhat true. QT is not the type of filmmaker to take a film on lightly (he has, after all, only directed six films so far, if you count the Kill Bills as one), and he seems like the kind of guy who constantly is writing down notes of his ideas and keeping them until such time as they’re needed. But that’s just an avid fan making an educated guess…

What do you think about what Thurman has said about Kill Bill 3? What shape would you like the third installment in the series to take?

  1. Uma hasn’t done much lately so I would say the ideas sound good if I we’re her too.

  2. Sure. More Kill Bill.

    Kill the Bride? :)

  3. utterly ridiculous, kill Bill should’ve been one movie, let alone 3. Where was Tarantino’s editor? Oh yeah it was him.

    • Quentin Tarantino had planned for the movie to be 10 chapters long, but the whole film came to over 4 hours. It was too long to keep into one release. That’s why they’re named VOL. 1 and VOL. ; rather than a movie and a sequel, they should be seen as two halves of the same movie. And plus it was better cinematically, due to the cliffhangers created in VOL. 1, and the money grossed was larger from two releases.

  4. Tarintino ought to do it in reverse film it, wait 10 years and then release it… :-P

  5. My bet is that this movie never gets made.QT always says that he wants to do this and that, and so far those things haven’t been done yet(The Vega Brothers, his Cantonese spoken film, the O-Ren Ishi animated series).I take very little stock in anything that he says that he’s going to do that isn’t close to or already in production.Furthermore, that story is over(as far as I’m concerned, anyway),time to get some of the other back burner projects done Quentin.

  6. If there is a Kill Bill 3 then I most certainly hope they do not do the obvious boring story line of Vernitas’ daughter coming for revenge. Puh-lease! – Is that the best QT can come up with? Just drop that corn ball idea and come up with something unrelated; something fresh – otherwise don’t bother making one.

  7. I hope it will not be called Kill Bill Vl-3,Bill is dead.

The duo of movies is great, and I would welcome the new movie if it can live up to the other two… if not Ditch it!

    • I COMPLETELY AGREE! that’s my point. As long as a seguel lives up to it’s expectations, good luck to it. Take Toy Story 2 and Shrek 2, they overacheived and did not disappoint. On the other hand, let’s not have another Harry Potter 6.

  8. @ Casey

That’s a good point. There is no need to have Kill Bill in the title considering that she in fact did kill Bill.

  9. Tarantino said he thought of this as a storyline while he was writing the first film.

As far as the guy who says the first 2 should have been 1 movie.. they were. They only split them up so it wouldn’t have to be 1 4 hour movie or so it wouldn’t have to be cut dramatically.

Either way, this should be interesting.

    • I second that.

  10. This movie should be 5 or even six movies if possible. Now I am not saying that because I like sequels( I hope Batman 3 never gets made cause there is no need ),I am saying that because Kill Bill is possibly the best anime to holywood LA films transition ever produce.

This francise should say a beacon of light for those who want proof that anime can be made into good la films.

I am quite excited of deathnote( directed by sam reimi ) to be made. Can you please post up some news about that film Ross.

  11. “killed bill”

  12. I, personally, can’t wait until 2014 when it is released!!! Its gonna be good!

  13. I wanna be kill bill the sailor mooon :-*

  14. Where do you go from here? Backwards to the very point when the movie started, only all the main characters pursue the bride for revenge, gogo only took a few nails to the head, definitely deserves a re-match, Oren survives because the cold slowed down her bleeding, and her scalp is re-attached, her assistant has her limbs reattached, and all the other characters etc.the theory being here, the bride was left for dead and survived and got her revenge, why can’t the same thing happen with the other snakes?

  15. If the plot does follow Nikki(Vernita’s daughter)’s revenge, then I hope she might sort of team up with any of the other children of the deadly viper assasins squad. After all, we nevr got told the others didn’t have children! And perhaps B.B will be a fully fledged assassin by then? Who knows?

  16. That is utterly ridiculous. I love Tarantino, but this is one of the worst ideas ever made (and let’s hope it doesn’t get made). Kill Bill should’ve been one movie like pointed out by some people. And the story is over? The message has been made, why just add onto it with crap to make money? Make a different movie that wouldn’t ruin a predecessor.

  17. I say prequel with all of them together whooping ass!

    • Now that I agree with.

  18. what if bill didn’t die? what if he pretended to die?

  19. With the move she made on him there is no way he can “pretend” to die…
