‘Two and a Half Men’ Star Says Stop Watching, Calls the Show ‘Filth’ – Is He Right?

UPDATE (with Apology): Angus T. Jones’ Rant & Apology Explained – Why You Shouldn’t Care

After Charlie Sheen’s controversial exit from the series, Two and Half Men had a few good months of normality.  Now, series star Angus T. Jones – who plays the “half” in the series title – has few things to say about the show he grew up on (and still works on). Specifically, he considers the show “filth” and wants people stop watching. Why? Because he doesn’t want to be on it anymore.

Jones’ feelings about Two and a Half Men were revealed in a recently-released video testimonial for The Forerunner Chronicles (above – skip to 7:39), where Jones was speaking in-depth about  about the evolution of his religious beliefs. Deadline is reporting that Jones recently became very serious about his faith.

Here’s what Jones had to say about Two and a Half Men:

If you watch Two and a Half Men, please stop watching Two and a Half Men.

I’m on Two and a Half Men, and I don’t want to be on it. Please stop watching it, and filling your head with filth…

These comments, which you’re likely to hear repeated most often, certainly do make Jones’ feelings about Two and a Half Men clear. However, Jones, who was 10 when he began working on the series, does go on to explain why he feels this way about this series:

People say it’s just entertainment. Do some research on the effects of television and your brain, and I promise you you’ll have a decision to make when it comes to television, especially with what you watch.

If I am doing any harm, I don’t want to be here. I don’t want to be contributing to the enemy’s plan.

Yes, the “enemy” probably refers to the Devil. But even if that is the case, Jones, now 19, is simply referencing the type of series that Two and a Half Men is. Even though the show airs at 8:30pm, Two and a Half Men is a highly sexualized adult series. Sure, there are a few jokes here and there that children will laugh at, but the series is generally directed at an older crowd – as is CBS’ entire line-up (their demographic is largely made up  viewers 34+). For the most part, it sounds like Jones doesn’t think the type of humor Two and a Half Men contains is appropriate.

As previously stated, Jones was 10 when he began on the series. So while viewers have been watching him mature on TV, he actually has been growing up in real-life, too. And, with growing up comes the development of opinions, tastes and beliefs. Though it may sound odd coming from the star of a show, Jones’ opinions are his to have. Homeland star Mandy Patinkin famously quit Criminal Minds because he no longer wanted to be a part of a show with so much violent imagery.

Though we’ll have to wait and see whether or not Jones will continue on the series, it does present one of the first instances of a child actor to growing up to publicly stand against the type of series he’s been working on. Actually, it’s surprising that it hasn’t happened previously. Sure, we’ve had Anne Hathaway, Lindsay Lohan and Miley Cyrus all step away from their Disney stigma. But that was, essentially, them wanting to step away from the “family-friendly” label that they were slapped with. In Jones’ case, he just isn’t happy with the type of material Two and a Half Men handles; now that the “half” has grown up, he doesn’t like what the “two” have been doing.

Still, I’m sure there are more than a few people will agree with Jones’ plea to stop watching Two and a Half Men - though probably not for the same reason.

  1. he is absolutely right and alan needs to go too. it is not funny and it is filthy. good for him and when he was on the show as a kid with charlie sheen of course it was over the top but now it is only stupidly filthy. he has earned every penny and turned into a handsome young man who for many years has added laughs to a formerly funny show. leave alan leave!!!!

  2. I have never understood the appeal of the show in the first place. Charlie Sheen was just wasting his talent and I am sure “Ducky” could have landed on another show playing the same character. It’s amazing nothing can kill the show.

    • The show is filthy, there is no reason they have to go to the lengths they do for a laugh. I have seen episodes where the show has been clean, and it has been a riot, they know they can make a clean comedy show. Everybody Loves Raymond and King of Queens did it, why can’t they?

  3. Religion, ruinning this planet since the dawn of mankind

    • Says the person with absolutely no knowledge of history or religion.

      • the crusades, ruining things.
        the spanish inquisition, ruining things.
        muslim extremists, ruining things.
…who needs a history lesson? apparently we all do!

      • My bad, something I live in this imaginary world were countless religion clash whit each other. And everyone in it thinks there right, creating war and injustice at a global scale. But I am thankful that a 19 year old American actor brought me back to reality. Let’s all be happy that he found out the true before the eleven season. I wonder if Charlie Sheen didn’t found god too and that why he was flush out? Damm you Hollywood!

  4. @ALL – Feel free to comment on what Angus said, the show in general or anything related to the show’s material but we kindly ask that you refrain from slamming, bashing or being disrespectful to any religon. This is not the forum for that.

    Thank you,

    • Why doesnt he quit? I mean you dont have to take their “filthy” money. Just quit. Maybe he can get a job more related to a family friendly montage like Disney or something else. I mean it is an adult world out there and I cant really say that he can duck his head in the sand and pretend it aint going on. Most likely if he stays in showbiz then he will encounter this unless he can gravitate toward some Disney show.

      • Have you ever heard of a contract?

      • Actually if you do your research on Disney, you will see that it is not a family oriented as one would think. And before any smart comments come out against what I say about Disney, PLEASE DO YOUR OWN RESEARCH into Disney’s occult symbolism and what Sir Walt Disney was truly about.

Honestly, No self respecting Christian would allow their kids to watch a lot of these “children” shows if they really knew the meaning and symbolism behind what is shown.

I watched the videos last night as soon as they were posted and I congratulate Angus on having the bravery to say what he did. He is stuck in the contract, but after this came out as fast as it did, he may not have to worry about it anymore and will probably be even happier than ever.

        • Why is it that this comment is ok, refering to all other religions/spiritual beliefs/symbols as occult, but as soon as anyone says anything negative about christianity the moderator jumps all over it

          • @Bryan – That comment is referring to Disney not aimed at any specific religion. The term “occult” isn’t an insult and isn’t intended to insult or demean followers of a different faith.

Heck, I’m fine with someone calling the kid a hypocrite for calling the show filth while taking it’s money.

You know exactly what type of religion-attacking comments I was referring to.

Also, as moderator I reserve the right to edit comments as I see fit. If it looks like a troll and acts like a troll then I’m going to nuke it. It’s my job to make sure things don’t get out of hand. Sometimes it’s a fine line to walk.

            Thanks,

            • While I still think the overall implied context of the comment is shaky, I can appreciate your well thought out and reasoned response to mine, thx

  5. God is the most beautiful thing in the world. Once you really find him you will never turn back. The enemy is real…and like Kaizer Soze said in The Usual Suspects…”The greatest trick the Devil ever pulled, was convincing the world he didn’t exist”…let that marinate. Even those of us who fancy ourselves “good” are not all following God wholeheartedly. It’s so sad so many of the pseudo-intellectuals in this world will argue and be defensive about this point when there is so much time being wasted, so much time to live for God.

  6. Why isn’t he allowed freedom of religion and the right to speak his mind? He’s not making everyone’s lives miserable like Cameron did on growing pains. He spoke about his beliefs in a religious interview, not on Letterman or anything. Quit badmouthing the guy for simply being honest in an appropriate setting.

  7. if you think the show is “filth” just quit!!!!

    • I did

  8. At first I disagreed with him saying this, but as I thought about I actually recalled my eight year-old son and I watching an older episode and I actually changed the channel due to something one of the actors said-My son loves the theme song, and I admit I was checking out the new Ashton Kutcher episodes, etc. He usually is asleep by that time on a school night, but we do watch the dancing shows together and enjoy them.

    • The dancing shows are way more filthy than “Men”. They might as well be doing it right on the TV.

  9. How can we write this guy off the show?

    • He’s in the ARMY now…just blow him up!! BOOM!!!

  10. Yes, I agree with him. The show is nothing but sex, sex, sex. There is enough of that, going on today, without it being promoted on a show that young people can watch and be influenced by.This program seems to tell them that it is alrigh to have sex outside of marriage. People are using it for entertainment and recreation and that is NOT what God meant it to be.

    • Then why did “he” make it so pleasurable? If all “he” wanted it to be for was reproduction, he’d have made us Vulcans.

    • Yeah, far too much sex going on.
The church manages to cover most of it up though, so that’s OK.

  11. Good for him, I know it has to be hard for him to have stood up for his beliefs!

  12. I’m with you Angus, stick to your guns. It is very refreshing to find a “YOUNG” person like you.

  13. Charlie was funny and I liked it when Charlie was on. Angus is right, it is nothing but filth. Somebody is always in bed, doing whatever. I tape it and watch part of it but I end up stopping to watch and delete it. I don’t understand why Ashton Kutcher gets paid so much, I don’t think he is funny at all.

  14. So I take it he will be giving away all of that devil money he earned from this filth?

  15. I dont get this guy, No one can make him stay on a show if he doesn’t want to be on it, Quit Man

  16. I stopped watching this show years ago. I enjoy a clever innuendo and a well placed double ententre. But this show got too much in your face with the sexified talk. Big Bang started to lean that way with Wolowitz, but thankfully Chuck Lorre decided to leave most of it for “Men”. That being said, isn’t it nice that actors can stick to a role and make tons of money and then decide they don’t like what it stands for.

  17. This kid makes like 300K per episode..what a dope….why would he want it to end….he makes more per episode than most make in a year….

  18. So young and such incredible courage in the face of Hollywood. Maybe others in the industry who are older will feel the conviction to come forward and speak up too. I am convicted myself.

  19. I find it stupid he would talk about his own program like this he’s a idiot mainly because he made a commitment and now he is letting his personal life get in the way of the commitment and is looking for a way out of it so instead of being professional and looking to get out in a better way he trash talks his own show.

  20. I used to watch when Martin Sheen was on for the humor. Reality set in and it no longer became funny to watch. Angus, you are right, thanks.

    • Thank you God. This young man is strong and courageous to stand by his convictions. Television is whorish–the writers and producers bend over and pander to the lowest of the low. If something is vile and repugnant, they’re all over it, trying to get us all to change the way we think about disgusting filth. How does civilization win in this scenario?

  21. are you kidding me what show on tv anymore are not filth?

  22. As a born again Christian, I am blown away by hearing this. This is just awesome that he found Jesus.

  23. Greedy hypocrite. If he is so religious, why would he play an unmarried man having sex / one night stands with chicks? Its the money.

  24. I hope Angus Jones gets fired for slander. His comments are no more then lies and he should just quit the show or be fired. No one would have a job if they call into some radio show and call their job filth. Why hasn’t Angus Jones been fired. Besides Mr Jones the show isn’t filth and if it was CBS would of never aired the show at all. I hope he gets fired. Besides Angus were you on drugs when you did the interview. CBS does not have many good comedies left. The punk Angus jus wants to be with his friend Charlie Sheen

    • oh yeah, he’s such a punk. being religious. yeah. downright punk. golly.

  25. I think that with shows like family guy now that is offensive and should not be on tv. I think that as far as 2 1/2 men being filth that is just a guy trying to get out of his contract. Does it show any actual sex? Does it cuss? Is it something that people sit back and think OMG we shouldnt let our children watch this? I think he is entitled to his opinion but maybe that would have been a correct opinion when Charlie was sleeping around but even then we didn’t see the sex? It is sad that this is considered filth when we have almost every show on tv, such as reality shows and sitcoms showing much more sex and violence than this how.

  26. For all of you standing up for this hypocrite, just take a moment to think about how easy this is for him to say now that the show has paid him enough money that he is already set for life.

    PUNK !!!!!

  27. Yes, it is filth, but he needs to beware of that black person who is ignorant of his history. In his ignorance he does not realize that their is no continent called black. So, he I suppose came from no where, because all the other races in America will acknowledge that they came from different countries. He is one brainwashed ‘negro’ I don’t know how he could teach Christianity if he knows nothing about himself.

    • There’s no continent called “white” either. Black people who want to be called black have a right to be called black.

    • and why is it a necessity to acknowledge the other part of our ethnic background? my family came from ireland, but i don’t refer to myswelf as irish-american. i was born here, therefore i am an AMERICAN, as is anyone born here. if you were born in another country, then became naturalized, then by all means, down-grade your citizenship. feel free to put that disclaimer in your description. why we feel the need to over identify ourselves is just ridiculous.

  28. This kid is a joke. I have so much more respect for Charlie Sheen after this. Sure morally Charlie is bankrupt. But at least he stood up for whatever craziness he believed in and walked away from the show. This kid makes $300,000 per episode, and even though he has found God all he can do is beg people to stop watching so he doesn’t have to walk away himself. He is thowing his ALL of his fellow-cast under the bus because he found God? Pathetic.

  29. Thank You, young man. Tell it like it is. Yes, there are people who will throw up the history of Christianity, but that is the history of the imperfect men. The history of Christ is PERFECT. he nevver harmed, only healed. So, you nay-sayers, no matter how hard you try, we will believe.

    • try to hear me from your high horse, no one wants you to stop believing. I don’t want this kid to stop believing. If he is so appalled then leave the show. Plain and simple. What about the rest of the cast? writers? directors? interns? camera operators? assistants? All these people who are working hard and need this show to make a living? He is trying to get the show cancelled and hurt their lives instead of just walking away?
