Twilight Sequels Have A Screenwriter

twilight Twilight Sequels Have A ScreenwriterThe much anticipated Twilight movie release is coming up November 21st and the excitement is on par with the mid-ocean tidal wave that toppled the Poseidon!

The viral reaction to the movie and the stars in it has not gone unnoticed by Summit Entertainment.  It’s like pulling the handle on a slot machine, knowing that it’s not only going to pay out, but that it will pay out on the next pull or two as well.

Summit Entertainment has taken note of their slot machine and is betting the bank on future pulls.

They’ve acquired the rights to the next three Stephenie Meyer books in the series titled New Moon, Eclipse and Breaking Dawn.

If Twilight turns out to be the hit everyone thinks or hopes it to be, then the good news is that they’ve hired Melissa Rosenberg to write the scripts for the next three.  It’s good news because she’s the screenwriter for Twilight.

If Twilight doesn’t pan out, then… well, never mind!  But how can it not?  Oh, am I falling for the marketing again?

Some Future (slight spoiler) news:

In New Moon, Edward (The vampire played by Robert Pattinson) will leave Bella (Kristen Stewart).  Bella gets bummed and hits it up with a werewolf.  In Eclipse, the love triangle gets complicated and in Breaking Dawn, the plot gets even more complicated when Bella and Edward get married…  oops, did I just type that?

Rosenberg has also written Step Up, and Dexter so she brings a fascinating combination of tale-telling to this fantasy franchise.  In her attempts to keep things as fresh as possible, she’s avoided reading the next book in the series so she isn’t biased in her representation of the characters present state of being.

Marketing Finally Bites Me

I’ve almost completely avoided most the promotional material around this movie.  I figured it was too teen-focused for me, but the media is generating attention.

Robert Pattinson caused a big disturbance at an appearance in San Francisco that resulted in some light injuries…  before he even got there.

Or at an appearance where Pattinson had a 7-year-old girl request that he bite her.  The frenzy is there indeed.

Then I accidentally came across the movie trailer, and it seems that I am doomed.  I like vampire tales and other such fantasy franchises.  Just like I enjoyed Joss Whedon’s Buffy and Angel series.

I think I’ll have to see this.  Well, on principal alone, I hope this teen magnet movie does better than High School Musical.  It would just be so much better on so many levels, I can’t even begin to understand it myself.  (I just had to say that.  I feel better now.)

  1. Well I am soo anxious and I’m pretty sure it’ll be a hit at the box office.
I mean already the 21st is sold out.
Yay! I’m glad I got mine in advance.
I love twilight I’ve read it 5 times and everytime I read it, I was overwhelmed by edward cullen.

    He made vampires super hot!
And yeah. The brit hunk just might pull it off. From what I’ve seen including about 4 scenes in the movie it will be amazing!

  3. Anyone else tired and not giving a damn about this vampire trend sh*t?

  4. I love the books (not the latest that much) but I’m going to wait for the review fallout to settle. I haven’t liked many adaptations. I guess the bar is set too high when it comes to making life out of imagination.

  5. I am playing to see the movie seven times! The midnight show and than during the Wednesday and Sunday’s showing!!!

How about anyone else? How many time do you plan to see the movie? Is anyone see the midnight showing of twilight?

  6. I get to see the movie tomorrow (Tuesday) night. Can’t put up my review until Friday, though.

I’m invited to pre-screenings so that I can write up my reviews for publication on the day movies are released.

  11. KEL: No.

    1minion: Hmm.. well put!

I will probably wait until the early craziness calms down before I see it and live vicariously through Vic’s experience until then!

  12. The Twilight fanatics are taking the heat off us Trekkers…

  13. And that is a good thing 790?

You do mean star trek fan, don’t you?

  14. I was just saying that trekkers look a lot similar to trek(star trak)

Are you saying that the hype of the star trek series, died down because of the hype of twilight?

  15. Sorry Tina, I was just joking around with ya,,, 8-)

  16. Im SOO glad it’s not a total negative review to wake up to on Friday (I’m actually looking forward to reading it)We won’t get to see Twilight untill 19th December here in the UK, so I’m eager to read all the anticipated conflicting reviews. Whatever the consensus, I’ll be there on opening night.

  17. Sorry for the people who are really upset by twilight but nobody is forcing you to watch it.

Let the supporters be. We want to love this movie almost as much as we love the books and are really tired of hearing negative remarks.
    Its unbearable. I’m a Twi-freak and I love it.
    I know I won’t be disappointed.

The cast was so amazing. When I met them I automatically knew they were perfect. :D

  18. Like myself!!!

I was into the harry potter series for the last eight years!

I was a harry potter fan all the way, until………………………………

Twilight had come along and I was hooked by the first book, first chapter!!!

    HARRY WHO???

  19. yvette: Don’t take heed of the nay sayers.

There are the fans who appreciate whatever it is they like, and there are those who don’t get it, but have some need to dis it.

It’s all OK ’cause everyone gets what they want! Right?

  20. I am really looking foward to seeing here as well. I would really like to see all of the books done to film, especially the last one. If it does anywhere NEAR what HSM did then I don’t see why they wont do the others to film……

  21. *is

  22. OH MY…
Great Movie to start off with great choice with the actors and actresses. I total fell in love with the Twilight…It’s Sunday and I have already seen the movie 3 times =) Rob, Cam, and Kellan =) I am totally into Vampire, Magical, and those Genre movies. I am the biggest Buffy Fan lol. Followed the show from 1997-2003, definately a great show which is mainly about killing Vamps and Demons. I have a attraction to Tall, Dark and Brooding…That’s for sure. I thought I wouldn’t like Twilight as much as I did but after watching I went out on a shopping spree to buy the books. I recommend this book and movie to anyone into Love stories with a BITE.

  23. I would have seen twilight by now, three times, but I friend didn’t tell me that she planned to see twilight on friday night, so it was too late, to head to the movie theater, by the time I had called her, for schoolwork help!!! Thanks alot ashely!!!

  24. to bad they’ve signed on the person to write the next 3 screen plays. she did a horrible job. we can only hope the same director isn’t used.
