Twilight Cast Signs For ‘Midnight Sun’ Movies

Twilight Midnight Sun Movie Twilight Cast Signs For Midnight Sun Movies

It’s a bittersweet year for Warner Bros. as this summer will see the end of the Harry Potter franchise. There are simply no more books to make movies out of. Come next fall and Summit Entertainment will be facing a similar issue with their incredibly successful Twilight franchise as The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 2 hits theaters to end the series.

The only difference between the situations these two film franchises are facing is that there actually is another Twilight book, albeit an unfinished one. That’s not stopping Summit from bringing back Bella (Kristen Stewart) and Edward (Robert Pattinson) and the rest of the cast for more films, based off of Stephanie Meyers’ Midnight Sun.

Summit Entertainment announced today, April 1st, that they’ve finalized negotiations for the principal cast, who will return for a hefty $20 million each for two more Twilight movies. David Slade (Eclipse), who’s recently had his name associated with Twentieth Century Fox’s Daredevil reboot, will return to direct both. Melissa Rosenberg has written all of the series screenplays to date and will return to pen Midnight Sun. Like Breaking Dawn, Midnight Sun will be split into two parts and they will be shot together.

For those unfamiliar with the story behind Midnight Sun, it was meant to be a retelling of Twilight with a neat twist of it being from the perspective of Edward Cullen as opposed to Bella Swan. Unfortunately for fans and for Meyer, the 12-chapter draft was leaked online and this demotivated the author from continuing. The 12 chapters were later released to fans for free and Meyer said she would one day return to finish it after not hearing about it for two years. Perhaps that time has come, or perhaps Summit just paid her a chunk of Twilight Eclipse’s record-breaking midnight opening box office haul.

There’s been a lot of talk as to what’s next after Breaking Dawn for the studio, even to the point of potential spin-off rumors that could explore the stories of secondary characters. It only makes sense that they first mine every existing piece of Twilight lore before creating original scripts.

Jacob Black (Taylor Lautner) didn’t get much screentime in Twilight but we can expect him to be written in for a lot more for Edward’s version of the story.

The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 1 hits theaters November 18, 2011 and Part 2 releases November 16, 2012.

  1. April Fool’s Day? Damn this sucks, 2 more crap films

    • You DO know this is a hoax, right?

  2. My biggest dream is to marry Robert Pattinson because I am so in love with him. Unlike a lot of men, he knows how to handle a strong woman. So far, unfortunately, I’ve been dealing with men with no backbone, who make promises they cannot keep. I am a 34 year old divorced woman with a young daughter and it would be nice to have a son as well. I want my son(s) to look like him. We’ll see. I’m dying to have a baby. I’d like two and maybe Rob would like three. In fact, my biological clock is already ticking and I don’t know how to describe it. It’s just becoming a physical need now. It’s less an intellectual decision than a physical calling. My body feels like it’s asking to reproduce, to have a huge belly and carry babies. So I hope after we meet, we’ll try for a baby as soon as possible. Although we wouldn’t be married yet, I’m not concerned. I just really want a baby! I want to reproduce so bad! Can you imagine our babies? Gorgeous!

    • …yeah.

  3. I saw the first Twilight movie with my boyfriend when it was released even though I knew nothing about Twilight. I was overwhelmed. It was orgasmic. When I have a craving for something, I just can’t hold myself back. Robert Pattinson is a wonderful guy, extremely handsome, and has an accent. For all you guys out there, Twilight turns women on. All you have to do is take us to see a Twilight movie to satisfy us. Also, be headstrong. Girls like strong men that aren’t afraid to show their true feelings at times. We need to know you’re reliable, say what you mean, and will always take care of us.

  4. Edward isn’t a real person, don’t use him as a model boyfriend. He’s a fictional character.

    These movies are crap.

  5. I think that Twilight has more of an impact on women in the world than religion and has made women such as myself increasingly comfortable with themselves and their desires.

Every day now I discover something new. Go through phases in which I feel much more in touch with my feminine side, in ways I never thought possible. I’m letting my desires speak as loud as they can.

I want to send a message that I’m an ordinary girl who’s struggled to find herself like everyone else, but I’ve finally figured out who I am because of Stephanie Meyer’s ingenuity. It’s so liberating.

    • this isnt funny. even for april fools day

  6. did ANYONE bother to view the poster?

    • This is starting to be like last year’s thread. :-D

      • lol, and I left Three (3!) big, big hints ;)

      • Ok i am so god damn confused is there or is there not a new Twilight movie?!

  7. it’s an April fools joke people.

  8. Screen Rant, you guys take the cake! 8-)

    • We do what we can. :)

  9. I’m so excited! I love the Twilight series. I can’t wait for Breaking Dawn!!! OH YEAH BABY!!! :)

It is incredible how much Twilight has really empowered and liberated women around the world. I turn 30 next week which I’m excited about and I see it as an achievement that I’ve got to this age without getting married and having children. Not that I’ve got anything against either, but I have been with so many guys who have said “You’re mine. Let’s get married and have kids” and I have always said no because I have always wanted my independence and my own life. This year hasn’t been easy, but now that I’m in a good place with having a great job and a toyboy and I’ve never been in better shape, I am looking forward to giving all that up. I wasn’t in a relationship that fulfilled me until now and what I did in the past was selfish. I take responsibility for everything I’ve done. I hate that people got hurt. But I don’t regret the outcome – a committed relationship with my toyboy. I’d love to have children in the next couple of years because the result is so worth it and my toyboy adores them. He is only 22, but I am really surprised by his maturity. But he’s got his career and things are going well, so I wouldn’t want to put him under any pressure. I don’t feel the clock ticking. If it happens, it happens. It’s a whole new world.

    • Who’s writing all the story’s about how women fill more empowered after watching the Twilight movies?

“I just really want a baby! I want to reproduce so bad! Can you imagine our babies? Gorgeous!” That one really made me laugh. Hahahah. :D

  10. That was totally the worst post I believe I have ever read. No one cares about your personal life on a film site. Please remove it mod.

As far as the movie. I think its great they keep the cast, but the screen adaptation for these novels has been horrible to say the least. They make money so the studios think they did well, but in reality they have not done the stories justice to say the least.

    • People- come ON!! Look at the freaking poster, or at the very least, check out a calendar! This was great- I’m a fan (yes, I know, hate away) but this was hysterical- nice job Vic! :)

  11. lol nice move vick. Someone might wanna tell Tellar thats its a joke, before its to late.

    • Hey, and I had Rob make it LESS subtle than he wanted to make it a bit clearer. 8)

  12. 20 million each kinda gave it away. Still funny though :).

    • The main 3 are getting $25 mill each (reportedly) for the Breaking Dawn extension so that’s not even the fake part, lol.

      • Oh what really? 25 million for the main 3? That’s ludicrous lol.

  13. haha i got scared for a moment. my favorite april fools joke from screenrant is still Michael Cera being The Flash from last year’s april fools day, i almost had a heart attack

  14. Vic and Rob, you guys are pulling another fast one, aren’t you? You are logging in as these people to stir the pot; come on, admit it. :-)

  15. Making it a two-parter was a brilliant stroke. Plausible. Even though I knew it had to be the cruelest April Fool’s freak out ever, I really considered it a possibility there for a moment: the first half consisting of the drivel already released and the second half partaking of new material that featured off-stage stuff with the werewolves. I got a cold case of dreads when my brain started chewing on it.

Fortunately, despite my belief that Hollywood would certainly brave a reboot of Twilight so soon (MS is a reboot of sorts), sanity prevailed. Surely, even 13 year olds would tire of sleight-of-hand montages of Edward popping up with voice overs cut into a movie that they’ve already seen a kerzillion times already?

  16. <3 Screen Rant <3

  17. So when I saw the title I almost died for the simple fact that as far as I knew Midnight Sun wasn’t even finished. Then there’s the fact that its basically the same thing from the last few movies from Edward’s point of view. And then there’s the 20 million dollars for everyone in the principle cast – they just have not been that great of actors to command that kind of salary, but I guess.

So of course I was entirely happy to see that it was a joke

    • SR had me on this one, much more than the monster being revealed for Super 8, until I read about the $20 million per actor. Then I read where Rob says they got $25 million each for Breaking Dawn? That’s why mother earth is calling it quits on Dec. 21, 2012. :-)

  18. It was a nice article .
But my first rule today regarding scoops is “Anything about Twilight is Bogus!”

  19. It’s so sad that such crappy movies can have such an impact on so many girls…

    • And yes, I realize this was an April Fool’s joke, but there are just so many women here talking about how important the Twilight movies are to real life things… So sad… Guess I shouldn’t be too surprised that these stupid reality shows are dominating television ratings…

      • I’m scratching my head in awe on how they are viewed as important. Bring back The Lost Boys batch of Vamps.

        • Let’s just stop with the vampire thing altogether lol :).

  20. See you next Tuesday. Only joking.

  21. Thank God this is a joke.

  22. i dang near had a heart attack when i saw the headline before remembering april’s fools. thanks for the laugh.

  23. is so patetic

  24. i want to see midnight sun and breaking dawn but im not aloud to F*** that!!!! :(

  25. What about short life of bree tanner I hope there are movies of both after breaking dawn

  26. what realy is the whole point of the twilight movies and what r breaking dawn and midnight sun about.forget it my head is srewed up now!!!! :(

  27. …… Damn. You are a jerk for doing this. I’m sorry but you are.

  28. Why won’t it die?! Ffs, this series sucks!

  29. Is this true?
