‘True Blood’ Season 6 Details Revealed – Who is Warlow?

Now that the True Blood season 5 finale has set things in motion for an extremely exciting sixth season, it’s time to find out what exactly we can expect as our stay in Bon Temps is extended one more year.

True Blood’s bloody finale left fans wanting answers to even more questions, chomping at the bit to find out the more about the mysterious Warlow. With almost a year’s wait until True Blood season 6, series creator Alan Ball exits the series by revealing some things that fans can expect to see next season.

Speaking with TV Line, Ball brings some hope to Bill’s (currently) bleak situation, throws a twist in Pam and Tara’s relationship, explains the type of man vampire Eric Northman truly is, while also providing some answers as to why a fan favorite character (Hoyt) was written off the show. If you’re hoping for more visual True Blood extras, you can check out the bonus scene from the True Blood season 5 finale (above). Picking up in the Vampire Authority elevator, we see Jason and everyone attempting to make their exit – but not before the name “Warlow” comes up.

After seeing Bill bloodily transform into Bill/Lilith (Bililith?), everyone is wondering exactly what kind of monster Sookie and friends will have to deal with in season 6. Though Bill showed a brief bit a fear before spontaneously exploding, his demeanor after being reborn was anything but friendly.  Touching about this aspect, Ball hints that Bililith may not be completely gone, even if he is terrifying:

“Who’s to say what Lilith really is? He is still Bill but he is something different.

It is Bill, but it is a transformed Bill. He is not a completely new person. It’s not like his memories or his experiences have been left out and he’s just a baby.

Is he going to be evil? What does he want? What is he going to do? Will he be able to revert back to Bill? That’s for future seasons. The implication, certainly, is that he is more ferocious.”

Though having to fight the always present supernatural inhabitants of Bon Temps, perhaps a former lover turned vampire god isn’t the best thing to have hanging around Sookie. While there’s no doubt that Bill will somehow have to fight off the power that Lilith’s blood brings him, we can only guess how much destruction will have come before that moment. And even if Bill somehow rights himself, there’s still one mysterious name left to deal with: M. Warlow.

Ball will only say that Warlow will play a big part of True Blood season 6. Even fans of the books are left in the dark on this mystery, as Sookie’s parents were murdered by a pair of fairies in the novel, and the name “M. Warlow” never comes up. That being said, there were still a few hints given about what type of creature Warlow might be. Having been able to present himself to Sookie, it’s clear that Warlow has some kind of supernatural power, likely fairy. Combine that with the fact that we already know he’s a vampire and there’s a very good chance that Warlow is some kind of vampire-fairy hybrid.

Taking a turn for the romantic, the surprising relationship between Tara and Pam caught many off guard. As many will wait and see what comes from television’s most powerful women coupling, Ball quickly puts a stop to any type of “happily every after” the future lovebirds may have:

“They both were, if not full-on lesbians, than bisexual. They both were characters with real attitude. And they both hate each other — at least they did at the beginning of the season. And that, to me, felt like it could create a lot of tension that could turn romantic towards the end.

…here’s the thing with relationships on True Blood: Once they happen then you have to throw a monkey-wrench into them, because to have people be happy is not that exciting.”

Now that Bill is an evil vampire god, the heroic light is shining even greater on the one-time villainous Eric. Putting a different spin on the former vampire Sheriff, Ball reveals what his longtime stance has been on the allusive Northman:

“Eric was kind of like a mischievous cad, but I don’t think he was ever, like, a true villain the way that Russell was or the way that Maryann was. And he’s done a lot of really heroic things himself. So I never really looked at Eric as the bad guy and Bill as the good guy – at least not since the very early seasons.”

Essentially bringing any True Blood season 6 information to an end, Ball talks about one of the great losses from this season. As one of Bon Temps fan favorites, fans couldn’t help but mourn the departure of Hoyt Fortenberry. Though still very much alive, Ball reveals why he decided to write Hoyt off his series:

“I felt like we had told his entire story. There weren’t many places we could go with him that we hadn’t been, but I love that character and I love Jim [Parrack] so much I didn’t want to kill him. He’s always been such a good soul. I wanted to have the possibility for him to return as well. But he fell in love and he couldn’t let go.”

To wrap things up, Ball gives his final thoughts on working on True Blood, and why he decided to move on.

“It’s bittersweet. It’s been such a big part of my life for so long; of course it’s hard to step away. But running that show is such a huge job and I’ve been doing it for five years straight. I just don’t think I have another season left in me. I need to re-charge. And then I’m interested in doing something new — something with different characters and a different tone. As a writer, it’s fun to create. And once you get into a long-running show with very established characters and a very established tone and format, after a while it’s a really great job but that’s what it is — a job. You’re just continuing to create the same show. I’m at the point in my life where I don’t want to work as hard. Actually, I’ve had to take a good hard look at workaholism and it’s effect on one’s mental health. [Laughs] And, also, there are things I want to do that are different. I want to try something completely different.”

True Blood season 6 premieres on HBO in 2013.

  1. Ball has messed with true blood to much for me, hope it returns more to following with the awesome books.

    • he isn’t allowed. they are only entitled to a few of the books plots. they had to only loosely base it on the book, that was the agreement.

  2. Well, my husband is the big fan, I just watch with him. I only watch true crime shows and read true crime. However, to the one complaining about people writing comments that are negative; well, this is America, and they have that right, just as you do to write your opinion. Also, I think that to the one who said if Ball is tired of the show, then maybe it is best to let someone else take over and give it some fresh “blood”. lol Anyway, here is my only thought, why on earth, if they were gonna have a girl be portrayed as some kind of special goddess like creature who tastes good and smells good and screws every man she sees, why didn’t they make her at least cute? This girl isn’t anywhere near cute, and Bill is freaky looking, gives me the creeps, he plays his part well, she, on the other hand, gets on my nerves with her naivete. Geez, grow a backbone and quit spreading your legs, makes women and fairies look bad. lol

    • Everyone is entitled to their opinions that’s true. I still don’t think it’s nice to make comments about the way someone looks. Everyone has feelings that can be hurt. Your comment made you sound very shallow

    • i think Anna Paquin is dead sexy

    • Are you sure you’re a woman because by referring to the actress who portrays Sookie Stackhouse as “not cute” you sound like a typical misogynist. By the way, it takes two to screw, so what’s with the double-standard. Why does SHE get on your nerves. Typical stereotyping. Good god, quite spreading your superficiality. YOU are the one who makes women look bad. In fact you just tried to.

      • I can’t stand sookie either but mostly because I find her selfish and needy yuck! And she can never make up her mind and she’s always “the victim” no matter what it’s sooooo annoying! And on top of all this she sleeps Gosh I can not stand sookies selfish needy whore like self! Bill better not kill bellefleurwith every and anyone another annoying trait! Anyway love the show have a feeling this will be the last season :(

  3. When does true blood come back on hob to go?

    • yes that is why this season only has 10 episodes not 12 like the other seasons i think it is because Alan Bell is not the director anymore

      • The reason there is only 10 episodes is that Anna Paquin was pregnant whilst filming and went on maternity leave.

      • No,the season is shorter mainly due to Anna Paquin being pregnant. She is due in Nov. Season 6 was Ball’s last season with True Blood. Ball’s had spoken about it being shorter and had said that they were cutting it shorter due to “economic” reasons.

  4. I just hope series 6 will not be the end of True Blood. Is it?

  5. Well im looking forward to seeing season 6, iam so hooked into this show. I hope it doesnt end…!!

  6. When does season 6 stsrt please?

    • june 2013 is when it starts

  7. When does season 6 start please?

    • 9th june- Season 6 True Blood

  8. Well one year is just far too long to wait for a series to return. By now the show has truly lost momentum with such a long hiatus for the stars. True Blood? What’s that! Onto the Walking Dead!!! Probably won’t be watching Season 6 now of True Blood!

    • to be fair , Anna has just given birth to twins lol , can`t imagine her having much energy for filming…

  9. Alan Ball will be greatly missed!

  10. Alan Ball took an excellent series of books, with outstanding plots, characters and details, and turned it into a silly, disjointed piece of trash with annoying characters and stupid situations. It’s a shame he didn’t leave the show after the first season when it had a chance to be salvaged. There’s nothing anyone can do to save it now.

    • Renee, I agree with you. Unfortunately, Charlaine Harris completely killed the characters and books with her final installment. It seemed like she was getting tired of the books with the last two, but I still had hope for the final one. Well, she blew it royally. Regarding the show, after season 4, I almost stopped watching because I was appalled by the butchering Ball did to the whole story of book 4. But then he moved so far away from the books that I’m actually able to watch it again. But yes, i really wish he would have stuck to the books, or at least the basic characters Harris created so beautifully, a bit more. It would have made for a much better show.

  11. I’m an Eric fan and just want to see him and Sookie have a chance at a relationship like they gave Bill. It sucks that Bill ruins everything all the time. He’s character is so deceitful and sneaky. Eric however has a more interesting history and he does genuinely care about Sookie and have him and Pam to get more screen time as well. She’s the best.

  12. This will be another great season. True Blood and Game of Thrones are my favorites shows.

  13. To be honest Both Eric and Bill have deceived and lied to Sookie in numerous times.. so stating that one is better than the other is a bit pointless. In both seasons 1 and 2 Bill even though he lied actually did actions of sacrifice and love for Sookie while Eric used her all the time , but in those seasons Eric was still evolving from this inhumane vampire to a vampire who could relate to an actual human, but Bill was actually trying to get closer to his humanity something that Eric was just beginning to even try. Along the development of the rest of the seasons Eric continues a journey towards his humanity, while Bill goes through many situations that simply push him away from his own humanity, thus leading to the ” Billith” incident. It wasn’t until season 4 that Eric was truly in touch with his humanity. While Bill was further pushed away from it. Add to all that the amount of ignorance or lack of knowledge from Sookie which more often than not led her to do stupid decisions and mistakes. Maybe it seems pointless to say all this but is kinda bugs me to see how team Bill and team Eric bash each other when based on all the episodes of every season they have both lied and done pretty bad things to Sookie and Sookie to them.

  14. i like the tension that this co-exsistance brings up. but i just felt bad that a 3000 years old creature which obviously had seen EVERYTHING in the world, died for an idiotic passion for blood.
i have to say that this series, is much realistic than that VAMPIRE DIARIES thing.
looking foeward for the next season.

  15. 2 words……Alcide shirtless.

  16. Season 6 starts on Sunday, June 16th at 9pm on HBO.
This year has felt like 3 years to me. I have been completely addicted to True blood from the start, for any of you that have not read the books, I think you should as they are fantastic. It’s sad to hear Alan won’t be directing anymore he has done such wonderful work with True blood. I hope the next director can do just as well. I have heard rumors that Stephen Moyer (aka Bill) will be directing true blood now. The new trailer has made this wait much worse for me, I think I may have to go and watch Season 5 again just to pass the time.

  17. Let me start by saying that Ball is a genius. To bring a story that otherwise might seem so unrealistic and bring such life by casting a great team of actors and storylines is TRUE entertainment! I have been watching this show since day 1! I celebrate every new season by watching the series on DVD before the premiere. I see something different and new that I missed each time. I’m a TRUE fan and still feel it has more to share and more angles to work with. I hope everyone who is a fan will have their flat screens on HBO on June 16th. We are patiently waiting !!!!!

  18. I have read every book prior to the show and some after. Over the past couple of seasons it has taken an awfully big turn. I know many have been discouraged because of that. I mean like Jason has not turned into a panther instead he is a cop/vampire killer in psychosis & Bill well I can’t find the right word for him & Tara a vampire??? I could go on and on. I still enjoy watching but the few things like Sookie’s many different Lover/Friendships well that was in the book too! Love Anna because she may have just had babies but she can still pass as a teen and I think she is a great actor who else could pull off some of the things she has it isn’t just because she is a fairy! As a book fan I always liked Eric, and the tiger what is his name? Alcide never was a “real” Sookie Lover in the books kinda almost. In the show I think at this point my favorites are Eric and Alcide. Hey girls can you imagine getting in the middle of that? I did not get the same feeling in the season 4 Sookie imagining herself between Bill and Eric??? Not for me! Still do not really know what Anna sees in Stephen probably a good guy. To each his own! Well I will be watching Season 6, I just see it as a new show with a name of a book I read.

  19. I’m in love with this show! I’m wondering bout the thing, will Sookie go back with Eric or will she fall for Bill again? I understand that you need a break, but we all are on a cliff hanger and we all are dying to know what happens. U have to wait longer because I don’t have HBO I wait for it to come out in CD and watch it. All in the end it never disappoints, it all is worth the wait. Thank you for this great show, your an amazing writer and I look forward to watching more.
