Exploring her new vampire powers, this weeks’ episode of True Blood, “Whatever I am, You Made Me,” begins with Tara making her escape from Sookie and Lafayette in the woods. Coming across a woman in need of a new tire, Tara attacks. Seeing a reflection of herself with the woman’s cross dangling above her forehead, Tara snaps out of her animal instincts, apologizes and quickly leaves.

Returning to the Vampire Authority, Bill Compton and Eric Northman are chained to the floor of their conference rooms. As the council begins to debate their fate, Roman asks everyone to exit. Explaining their position on having a 3,000 year old vampire (Russell Edgington) on the loose hurting their cause, Bill and Eric promise to take care of the problem, even if they must give their lives.

Attaching a stake harness to Bill and Eric, their lives are now in the hands of an iPhone application. Making sure that the two realize how easy it is for them to be killed, they are unable to do anything but search for Russell Edgington.

The Authority brings in its new spokesman, Steve Newlan, who has his first meeting with Roman. As Newlan begins to speak poorly about humans, highlighting their desire to believe in anything, Roman reiterates vampires’ need to evolve. Without integrating with humans, Roman thinks vampires will only end up reliving mistakes of the past. Steve promises to do his best, while Roman makes Steve know that he’s going to hold him to that promise.

Attempting to find another way to capture Tara, Sookie makes her way to Fangtasia for help. With Eric still missing, Pam is keeping everything under control. Not wanting to help Sookie, Pam tosses Sookie into a nearby wall. Turning all fairy, Sookie gives Pam a blast of her “glow hands.” Pam encourages everyone to continue to buy their overpriced drinks… or get out. Though she didn’t say it as kindly.

Seeking food, Tara heads out to Merlotte’s for help and asks Sam for some food. Helping her as much as he can, Sam gives Tara access to his stock of True Blood, as well as his walk-in freezer. Of course, when Sookie goes to work, no distraction is able to stop Sam from mentally revealing everything to her.

Trying to understand everything that’s going on, Arlene asks Terry to tell her about the secret he’s keeping. Terry explains to Arlene that he’s leaving with his old war buddy, but is unable to tell her where; Arlene’s typically understanding nature is waning as she becomes even more worried about the man she loves.

Jumping back into Pam’s past once again, we see her and Eric’s second meeting. Visiting her brothel, Eric comes to seek his reward for saving her previously. Dismissing the other women, Eric wants to spend time with Pam. Unfortunately, Nora and Bill are busy murdering Pam’s girls, and when Eric and Bill meet  (for the first time), it’s clear why the two started off on the wrong foot. As Eric allows the Nora and Bill to leave, he and Pam even their score.

Afterward, Pam attempts to convince Eric to turn her into a vampire. Though more honorable than she original thought, Pam makes use of a sharp blade to force Eric into making a decision: change her or watch her die. Not wanting to see her perish, Eric decides to change her.

Finally coming out of her cooler, Tara confronts Sookie with her fangs shown. Perhaps coming at the worst time, Alcide decides to visit Sookie to warn her of Debbie’s disappearance. When Sookie reacts oddly, Alcide knows that something is going on, but can’t yet figure it out.

Still recovering from his leaked nude photo, Andy Bellefleur attempts to help Debbie’s parents find their “lost” daughter. Not having heard from her in quite some time, they head to Bon Temps to find answers for themselves. As Andy questions the town, he finds the time to make his one-time fling with witch Holly more permanent.

Seeking out Alcide, Sookie finally tells him the truth about Debbie. Reacting unfavorably to the news, Alcide leaves upset. Sookie is worried that he will tell Debbie’s parents the truth.

Elsewhere, Jessica attempts accessorize and Jason rekindles a romance he had with his teacher. Though Jason’s decision to become a better man comes with some challenges, Jessica stumbles upon an interesting smell while shopping, leading her into an empty field.

As the episode comes to an end, Lafayette briefly turns into a crazy demon, causing him to pour bleach into the food at Merlotte’s, only to snap out of it moments later and realize what’s happening. In order to put an end to her vampireness, Tara heads into a tanning salon for some late night rays.

  1. Can we get a web-series or something that’s all about Pam?
Maybe it’s because we only get her in small bits here and there that I’m so fond of her but regardless she’s funny as all h**l. I loved the bit with her texting…
So far so good this season. I know we are only 3 episodes in but I like how things are shaping up. Especially the fact that it doesn’t look like this will be another season of Sookie & Bill or Sookie & Eric or Sookie & both of them as a matter of fact. That storyline has run it’s course and I’m happy to see it go…

  2. When this show ends they should do a spin off with Jason. A sitcom with him moving to New Orleans….Something like what he does now….Kind of go through life dazed and confused. but always getting laid and always getting out of trouble with not a lot of problem. He’s definately the comic relief….I’m sure they have him in there to tone back the dark now and then with his goofy way of seeing things….

  3. Alcid kind of over reacted to the news. He didn’t seem to even consider that Sookie had a logical reason for not daring to say anything….

  4. I’m happier with this episode than I have been with the last two. WOOT as I was beginning to feel that all-to-familiar stirring to take flight from another weekly television show. I’m content once again.

And I agree about Pam – I’ve loved her, particularly that biting wit, since she first opened her lovely mouth to speak. Who knew underneath all that incredibly fierce vamp bitchiness lurked a woman who only wanted an escape from inevitable? The back in time jaunts provide us with much insight.

And I’m really liking this side of Sookie, this “I’m not such a good little girl” streak. Her deflection and turn around of Sheriff Andy’s questions about Debbie’s disappearance impressed me.

Dear writer of this review: “Attaching a steak harness to Bill and Eric…” It is not my intention to poke fun at you or police your grammar. Your use of the homophone word “steak” where I assume you meant “stake” (homophone word meaning words pronounced the same, but spelled and differing in meaning) occurs quite often. That said, your use of the word gave me great joy as the thought of an actual hunk of meat strapped to the chests of Bill and Eric made me howl with laughter. Thank you!

  5. I will be happy if they get rid of Tara.Hope to see Russell doing bad thing.

  6. It’s another exciting episode of your favorite TV show True Blood episode 3 on season 5 entitled with ‘Whatever I Am, You Made Me’. Last week’s “True Blood” season premiere set up the season nicely. Tara is now a vampire, Bill and Eric are in trouble with the Authority, Jessica is enjoying freedom as a single, maker-less vamp.

  8. best show hands down.

  9. I adore this show!! I love the fantasy-based characters that are engrossing, charismatic, and likable. I guess I am also partial, because like the setting of ‘True Blood”, I am from Louisiana ( Baton Rouge to be exact:)Like many I am a “True Blood” fan, I am conducting a fashion design expose’ based on the characters. “Fashion Pin-Point / True Blood- One Look/One Story”. Each look I design is based on the character development thus far. As a fashion designer, I am constantly “styling” each and every character as I enjoy each episode. Take a look here at my blog : http://wp.me/p1DqY4-gy

  10. It wasn’t Nora in the flashback. It was Lorena.
