trauma chuck NBC Orders More Chuck and Cancels TraumaEmployees of Orange Orange and the Buy More can sleep a little easier at night because, for the time being, it appears that their jobs are safe as NBC has decided to order six more episodes of our favorite undercover underachiever, Chuck.

As good news comes, so must the bad. In this case the bad news is NBC will be canceling their low-rated freshman paramedic series Trauma after just five episodes.  Although, I have a feeling that fans of Chuck won’t be too dejected by this news.

Still, fans of Trauma deserve their moment to grieve and NBC has decided to give them that moment, as they’re committed to airing the remaining seven episodes of Trauma. While it’s only prolonging the inevitable, it’s more than Southland received. (I won’t even bring you up, FOX, and that whole Firefly debacle.)

This news doesn’t bode well for NBC as the cancellation of Trauma marks the second series to be axed since the fall season premiered in September. Combine that with NBC’s experimental The Jay Leno Show underperforming and MythBusters “Duct Tape Special” besting NBC’s other ER replacement, Mercy, and it looks as if the once triumphant Peacock has become a casualty of its own hubris.

Alright, enough of the boo-hoo for the cancellation of Trauma. Since I’ve never seen the show, I’m not really too concerned about its fate. Although, I am a huge fan of hoagies, so let’s get down to it with more Chuck coverage. I know what you’re wondering… When is Chuck coming back?

Well, we recently reported that NBC was looking to move the show up to late October, but now it doesn’t look like that’s going to happen. Don’t worry; we’re not going to have to wait until after the Winter Olympics in March (like fans of Lost will) in order to see the return of Chuck. The way things are going right now, it looks like Chuck may be returning around January.

While it’s not the October return that has previously been speculated, I’m sure the order of six additional episodes is worth waiting a couple more months.

  1. Great news about Chuck! I love this show and I am looking forward to it almost nearly as much as I am the return of “24″. “Chuck” and “Heroes” back together on Monday nights! (I HOPE!)

As for Trauma, if NBC wanted to keep an emergency medical drama around, they should have just hung onto ER for another season. Personally, I am SICK of those types of shows as they are being done to death. I didn’t even bother watching it. Also, who WOULDN’T watch the Duct Tape episode of Mythbusters over rehashed medical drama? That episode was AWESOME and has made me wish that I had a duct tape boat!!! Once House goes away, I wish the networks would just let medical dramas go away for 5 years or so to enable them to come up with another good one. ER was a great show, but it jumped the shark 5 or 6 years ago and no longer became a must see…much like most of NBC’s current lineup.

  2. I watched an episode of “Trauma” and i thought it was horrible, so i’m not suprised that it’s cancelled.

  3. Not a huge fan of “Chuck” but I have seen a few episodes and the show looked pretty good. NBC should really commit to a show for a change. (My Name is Earl!)
NBC should promote “Chuck” more and keep it on the same night every week,,,
Also some fans will bail on a show if they perceive the networks going to cancel it midway through the season.
NBC needs to stand behind shows like “Chuck” that have a convention fringe fanbase.

At this point it seems like the show is hanging in the balance of whether some NBC exec has a bad day in traffic. ^
Ya know, who wants to come home from a crap day at work and watch a show called “Trauma”. I just left the trauma filled workday…

Also the billboards were comically bad.

  4. Chuck=win

  5. And there was much rejoycing!!!! Yeah!!! Yeah for Chuck!!!

  6. Not huge fan of CHUCK. Actually i liked Trauma. Sad to see it go, but what else can you do. I guess NBC wanted more ratings for a show on at 9pm on a Monday. Your actually going up against MNF what do you expect.

  7. @anthony…

How about a show that hasn’t been done a million times before. Trauma was ER in an ambulance.

  8. Love Chuck , its just a fun show to watch.

Saw the first episode of Trauma and thought the first half was great, but then it seemed to fall off a cliff and I said this show is dead in the water. The second episode confirmed it.

Chuck is a great show, NBC just needs to leave it alone for a while. Last year they yanked it around so much that it was hard to keep up with.

NBC’s psychotic scheduling has made me quit watching a number of their shows. After all, why get interested in something if you know it’s going to get canceled.
Chucks return does redeem NBC a little bit in my eye’s. But they still have to leave it alone for a while.

  9. ahhhh….I cant belive there canceling Trauma, I love the show, I watched every episode since the first. Hell of a good show, you guys should gave it a watch.

  10. You know if I was programming at NBC I would put the second season of “Southland” in “Trauma”‘s place after those last seven episodes are aired.

  11. That’s really good news but I wonder how it’s gonna affect the quality of Chuck.

  12. What kind of idiots would cancel Trauma? Great show!!Guess NBC will have to be boycotted until Trauma comes back

  14. I love Trauma! I’ll be really dissapointed if they do cancel it (which it seems they will be). The first episode seemed a little stupid, but after that I really began to enjoy it. It’s a shame we won’t be seeing any more of it. Chuck is also a good series, I used to watch but for different reasons wasn’t able to keep up with it.
    Congratulations Chuck!
    And goodbye Trauma.
