Transformers’ Ramon Rodriguez Cast As Bosley On ‘Charlie’s Angels’

After announcing the three leading ladies and the boss’s voice for ABC’s Charlie’s Angels reboot last month, the last member of the iconic team has been cast. Ramon Rodriguez, lately of Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen and the upcoming Dark Side of the Moon, will play the agency’s assistant Bosley.

All the major parts for the series are now in place: Minka Kelly, Rachael Taylor, and Annie Ilonzeh are the angelic threesome, while TV veteran Robert Wagner will play the voice of head honcho Charlie. Production on the pilot should wrap up this year, and if ABC orders a full series it should be ready for spring 2011. Smallville scribes Al Gough and Miles Millar, Leonard Goldberg, Nancy Juvonen and Drew Barrymore (star of both Charlie’s Angels movies) are producing.

Rodriguez represents the first major departure the reboot. Previous portrayals of Bosley by more seasoned actors in David Doyle, Bill Murray and Bernie Mac showed the character as a fatherly, helpful figure (in so much as three gorgeous chop-sockey private detectives need help.) Rodriguez is practically juvenile by comparison at 31 – in fact, costar Minka Kelly is only eighteen months his junior. According to TV Guide, the new Bosley will be young, “hunked-up,” and technically inclined.  The younger character may allow producers to focus on the more high-tech angle the series is set to employ. Wagner hinted that Charlie may resort to tweeting updates to the Angels (cringe), which would certainly imply a more tech-savvy and connected team overall.

Ramon Rodriguez has had a few TV roles in the last few years, most notably arcs on The Wire and Day Break. He’s also had small parts in The Taking of Pelham 123 and the upcoming Battle: Los Angeles. His most visible role yet has been Leo Spitz, the shifty conspiracy theorist roomie to Shia LaBeouf’s character in the second Transformers movie. He’ll reprise his role in the third film this summer.

Pre-production on Charlie’s Angels has reached a fever pitch.  Less than a month after the initial order, the entire main cast is set and crucial elements of the new show (like its sultry Miami setting) are in place. Expect updates to hit fast and hard once initial filming begins.

Charlie’s Angels is scheduled for an early 2012 premiere on ABC.

  1. Lord knows this can’t be any worse than those craptacular films.

Oh, and I would still rather be a Mythbuster!! :D

  2. For me this guy was the worst part of the Transformers sequel……. and those twin robots, and that guy who took of his pants, and the relentless cgi, and the plot, and voice acting, and the length, and Shia, and the bright cars, and the sound…………
