Transformers Dark of the Moon 3D trailer Transformers: Dark of the Moon 3D Trailer

Yesterday we were able to bring you a report on the nearly 20 minutes of preview footage from Transformers: Dark of the Moon that we had the opportunity to see this past Wednesday evening in Hollywood. In addition to the footage preview we provided a tease of the moderated conversation between directors Michael Bay and James Cameron on the use of 3D in the film. Today Paramount Pictures is releasing both a video featurette from the event with highlights of the dialog, as well as the new trailer for Transformers: Dark of the Moon.

Today we have the new trailer, which is screening (in 3D) before Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides beginning today. As we mentioned in our previous piece, the 3D work in Transformers 3 has been a painstaking process for Bay who (from what we were able to gather during the course of the conversation) has always had mixed feelings about the medium.

The director said he ultimately felt that 3D was the right choice for his film, and works to bring the audience into the world of the Autobots and the Decepticons. While this new trailer is pretty much the same as the previously-released Transformers 3 theatrical trailer, it is distinguished by  what we refer to as “the visceral blockbuster, summer thrill-ride, ‘holy s**t, did that just happen?’” action that Bay fans have come to know and expect from his films…now in 3D

For a tease of some of the aforementioned three-dimensional action, take a look at the new Transformers: Dark of the Moon 3D trailer below:

As you can see, the trailer depicts a lot more of the high-octane intensity fans want from a Transformers film. Included in this latest version is a portion of (what we believe) will be one the absolute fan-favorite action sequences in this film: Sam and Bumblebee flying through a high speed chase and utilizing (what we have already deemed) “some of the best ever use of the Transformers’ ability to transform.” It will NOT disappoint when you see the scene in full.

Whether an audience member needs to see Transformers 3 in 3D will be up to the individual to decide. What we can say is that the 3D footage that was screened from the film looks good. It does support the immersion experience as well as some of the more intricate action scenes that were screened.

Transformers: Dark of the Moon has had its release date bumped up a few days and will now hit theaters on June 29, 2011.

  1. Looks awesome.

  2. Megatron is a Mack Truck if anyone is wondering… I just saw the toy at Target! And the “mullet” Nascar Autobot that the Politacally correct whiners are so concerned about, is no big deal. It’s a stretch to see it as a mullet. The end of this trailer with Optimus flying at that thing gave me a slight chill.. looks awesome.

  3. nerdgasm

    • agreed

  4. That was cool. Other than Shia screaming Optimus in every trailer, that was the best one yet.

  5. Epic

    • Beyond EPIC! I seriously can’t wait.

  6. In my opinion, this looks like it is gong to be exactly the same as the first two. Sam, not really ever knowing exactly what to do. A “hot” girl wandering aimlessly in slow motion through all the destruction and chaos. Countless explosions that are there for the sole purpose of (and I quote from Bay himself) “looking cool”. Nameless robots. Again. I can’t believe people are praising this film, it looks like a simple rehash of the first and second films, but again, this is all purely my opinion. I for one, won’t be bothering to go see this film. I hated ‘Transformers’ fool me once, shame on you, I decided to give him a chance with ‘Revenge of the Fallen’ fool me twice, shame on me. Screw you Bay!

    • More of the same might not be such a bad thing, even though the plot could only get better after the 2nd movie which was hurt badly from the writers strike. :p

I watch Transformers to get cool action scenes, watch robots beat the crap out of each other and be entertained without having to think too much. It’s what I’ve come to expect from these movies, and that’s what they’re delivering. Mindless fun. It could be much more, but people should realize that is not going to happen, so enjoy it for what it is. :)

      • What do people want a Transformers movie to be? Pulp Fiction? I played with the toys a lot so they made a movie, cool. If you are between the ages of 18 and 30 you are barely their demographic. This needs to appeal to 8 year olds as well. Just Shia pulling the gun out pushes the pg-13 rating a little closer to R. Remember when they wanted to rate the first one R because of the intensity of the transformations? Bay has my money. Do you want a “darker, grittier, reboot, remake?” It is the last Transformers movie he is doing. Then you can complain about some other director ruining Beast Wars and not following the source material. Or you can be angry that there are jokes that appeal to children and women that appeal to men and explosions that appeal to everybody that likes blowing stuff up but can’t from their desk job.

        • The robots aren’t oddly colored like they were when they were animated twenty five years ago. The robots look too much like humans. Yeah, so what if they are organic robots from outter space. Why does a robot have facial hair? Why did they make it funny? Transformers aren’t supposed to be funny. Why was there so much slow motion? Why didn’t they make it more “artsy?” There wasn’t enough plot development. I don’t like the characters, they need more of the robots. Why do they have girls in the movie? They should get uglier chicks with better acting skills to make the explosions and robots look cooler. I love these movies. The last one was a bit of a mess but still good for what it was. Too much humor, the movie just wasn’t as balanced as the first. I love this site but I don’t get what people want out of a Transformers movie. Reservoir Dogs? Fern Gully? Titanic love stories? Character studies? Silence of the Lambs? Taxi Driver?

          • @”Why does a robot have facial hair?”

Some of the robots in the original series had facial hair. Unicron and Alpha Trion both had a beard.

@”Why did they make it funny? Transformers aren’t supposed to be funny”

The original series, and pretty much ALL movies/TV shows have comedy.

@”Why didn’t they make it more “artsy?” There wasn’t enough plot development.”

The original series wasn’t art either, and had a weak plot in most of the episodes.

I see exactly what you’re saying. People keep comparing it the original series, but tend to ignore the many similarities they share.

  7. I bet it will end up being the best out of the series.

    • so its finishable?

      • No, but this seems like a step up from the first two attempts. Then again we all said that about the second one, so really we just have to wait and see.

    • Doubt it.

  8. Great I saw a ton of nameless Transformers in that, looks like we get Transformer grunts again…

Hey Bay we all get it, you don’t want to kill off named character but using unnamed Decepticons #2 through 25 when you have 100s to utilize is lame, unoriginal, & sad.

  9. Aww man, I thought the trailer was going to be in 3D!

(he says, sat here with the 3D specs from Thor close to hand)

  10. Just re-watched Revenge of the fallen trailer and compared it to this and Dark of The Moon blows its doors off completely and very few comparisons besides giant robots. Mood, Pace, darkness all in favor of Dark of The Moon.

  11. TF3 will be the summertime blockbuster to see. Cant Wait. June 29th.

  12. nice…still iffy bout shelling out for 3d though
    will wait for reviews

    • I wouldn’t say Bay is “selling out” b/c he doesn’t have much of a choice when the studio says it will be in 3D.

  13. I wonder if Bumblebee will finally be able to talk. ughh.

    • I think it might happen Raven, in the trailer there looks to be a part where Sam is holding Bumblebee’s mouth is if to keep him from saying something.

  14. The CGI is wicked! So glad Imageworks didn’t touch this film.

  15. guys, this is not a spam or junk.

well, maybe you don’t know what is this. But there’s a big problem in indonesia. Since February 2011, we can’t watch movies that being produced by six big studios like : Paramount, Universal, Warner Bros, Walt Disney, Sony Pictures (columbia, screen gems, etc), and 20th century fox. Until know, we can’t watch Summer Blockbuster movies like Thor, Fast Five, Pirates of the Caribbean 4, etc. The worst is that we maybe can’t watch Kungfu Panda 2, The Hangover 2, X-Men First Class, Cars 2, Green Lantern, even the highly anticipated Harry Potter 7-2 and Transformers 3. So, please, just help us to like this page (our target is 1 million people, and there’s still 37.000s.)
I’m so sorry if this is out of topic. But please help us. We’re suffering :’(

and maybe you think this page is pointless. But this is what we can do right now, as ordinary cinephiles. We’ve been in TV shows, Radios, blogs, websites, etc.
    Thanks a lot guys. :)

  16. I saw this in 3D before Pirates last night and I honestly was blown away at the 3D of it all. Especially when it zoomed in on the eye and the inner workings of the gears and what not. It was pretty amazing and I wasn’t expecting it.

(I believe I saw a different trailer than this one. Mine was centered around the moon landing)

  17. This Transformers movie looks even better than the other ones before!

  18. fail without unicron, movie made for women and people that never read a TF comic book or saw the original cartoons.

looks like another big hollywood peice of cgi pap.

    • OI! I am both a woman AND a reader of the old TCB but they haven’t laid any groundwork to bring in Unicorn which would leave the nonfanboys going “wtf mate?” HOWEVER in this movie you have Sentinal Prime which could become a way to start going backstory and in turn bring in Unicorn (plsplspls)
