A new piece of promotional material for Transformers: The Last Knight raises an interesting new mystery for the upcoming film regarding the fate of Bumblebee and the future of Optimus Prime. Ever since the first trailer debuted for the fifth Transformers film, fans have set to wondering why Optimus spends at least one scene in the movie savagely attacking Bumblebee. Not only are they friends and allies, but Bumblebee is one of the sweetest characters in the franchise. Even in the most recent trailer for the film, the scene was reiterated, teasing its pivotal role in the upcoming movie.

We learned a few weeks back that The Last Knight would be exploring the backstory of Bumblebee some, along with the history of the Transformers as a whole. We'll even be delving into their creation on Cybertron and their long history on the planet Earth. As such, theories are running rampant about Optimus' state of mind. Some leading ideas are that he's died and been brought back under someone else's control, or that the version we see attacking Bumblebee is someone else entirely. Now, a image has provided another wrinkle to the mystery.

Toys'R'Us will be doing their part to promote The Last Knight with a new line of Transformers merchandise called Mission to Cybertron. Not only does the name imply that a portion of the movie will feature the home world of the Autobots and Decepticons, but a new standee of Optimus Prime offers an interesting new look at the character.

While there's clearly some amber glow added to Prime from some energy source, it's hard to miss the actual yellow parts mixed in with his traditional color scheme of red, blue, and silver. Even more telling, but his abdomen bears an uncanny resemblance to Bumblebee. With toys serving as windows into blockbuster movies more and more these days, could this new image reveal part of the fate Bumblebee suffers after battling Optimus? Does the former Autobot leader rebuild himself with the parts from his fallen foe?

For now, it's all speculation. But it will certainly feed into the many wild theories surrounding Transformers. Optimus has a long history of dying in the various Transformers franchises, so some sort of rebirth in The Last Knight is highly likely. As for Bumblebee, he's probably going to survive the film, seeing as he's getting a solo movie in 2018. With Transformers: The Last Knight on the horizon, we should know soon enough the fate of both Optimus and Bumblebee.
