Michael Bay is now filming Transformers: The Last Knight, which is both his and the larger franchise’s fifth Transformers live-action movie overall (and possibly Bay’s final Transformers flick). The human cast includes returning players from Transformers movies past in Transformers: Age of Extinction star Mark Wahlberg, as well as the original Transformers trilogy’s costars Tyrese Gibson and Josh Duhamel. But, of course, the most intriguing element for fans of this property are the new robot additions in The Last Knight, with Autobot Hot Rod, Decepticon/Combaticon Onslaught and a cute little fellow named Squeeks confirmed to be among their ranks, thus far.
Screen Rant is currently represented among the members of the press participating in a visit to the Transformers: The Last Knight and we expect to get some juicy details about The Last Knight in general (the story, characters, etc.) from it to share, sooner than later. In the meantime though, we can offer a look at The Last Knight‘s official production logo.
You can check out the logo for The Last Knight below, straight from the back of Bay’s “workstation” chair on the film’s set, followed by another, shall we say, telling pic from our set visit and a GIF of exactly what you’d expect from a Bay movie:
The presence of human actors from both the first Transformers movie trilogy and Age of Extinction – the latter of which was a semi-reboot/sequel of the property – suggests that The Last Knight is attempting to better tie together Bay’s four preceding installments in the franchise, as part of this movie’s attempt to reshape the franchise as a proper cinematic universe. A large group of screenwriters was put together last year to pitch ideas for future Transformers installments in general, with one spinoff (a Bumblebee movie) already confirmed and tentative plans for additional sequels/spinoffs to be released on through to 2025. We’ll start to see the fruits of the Transformers writing group’s labors in 2017, upon the release of The Last Knight in theaters.
Other confirmed cast members for The Last Knight include Laura Haddock (Guardians of the Galaxy) and Anthony Hopkins (Thor: The Dark World), along with Jerrod Carmichael (The Carmichael Show) and Isabela Moner (100 Things to Do Before High School). It’s not clear yet which, if any, of the human characters in The Last Knight are being set-up to return for the sixth Transformers installment already scheduled to arrive in 2019, but again – our impending set visit reports for the film will hopefully shed light on this and much more.
Transformers: The Last Knight opens in U.S. theaters on June 23, 2017, followed by the Bumblebee spin-off on June 8, 2018, and Transformers 6 on June 28, 2019.
