The rumor mill for Transformers 4 has been turning so quickly that it's difficult to keep up. The flubbed rumor of Mark Wahlberg's casting in the film ironically resulted in Wahlberg joining the production for real; news sources were then quick to jump on rumors that Nicola Peltz (The Last Airbender) and Brenton Thwaites (Maleficent) had been cast as the young main characters of the film. Subsequently, those rumors were declared false by Transformers director Michael Bay.

Now, an anonymous source claiming to work for a "secure document disposal firm" has posted a 120-page script he or she alleges is the latest draft of the Transformers 4 screenplay. After a brief fervor about the over-the-top content of the script, Michael Bay has once again stepped in to announce that the document is far from genuine.

Michael Bay has issued a statement today that the much-discussed Transformers 4 script is a hoax. Originally posted on Unleash the Fanboy, the script purported to come from a cache of data given over to a computer security company. Bay wrote on his personal website:

"Some Internet sites this morning reported that some document recovery guy has found a legitimate 120 page script of Transformers 4. I can absolutely 100 percent say this is completely false. The only two people in the world that have our unfinished script are Kruger and myself. Also we are only up to page 70 in our T4 script. Maybe this guy has a cartoon or something else – but definitely not our movie!"

It's almost a shame that the script is a fake, as its summary sounds like it could make for a seriously bonkers Transformers movie. In the theoretical story, Earth would find itself menaced by the planet-devouring Unicron (of the original animated Transformers: The Movie) and his Decepticon minions. The script apparently involves time travel, space battles, Iron Man-like powered armor, the resurrection of Megatron as Galvatron, and the live-action introduction of the fan-favorite Dinobots.

Perhaps most interestingly, the role that was reported to be going to Nicola Peltz would have been rather different than the "female Sam Witwicky" of the initial rumors. Wounded early in the film in a Decepticon attack, Peltz's character would have undergone "extensive cybernetic surgery" and become a robot-destroying badass. Alas, every aspect of the preceding sentences is based in lies and gossip, according to Bay.

In a way, the outright madness of the screenplay probably should have been a giveaway that the document was a fraud. Fan scripts are nothing new to the Internet, often cramming in more ideas, characters, and direct depictions of source material than are feasible for a feature film. While fans of the larger Transformers canon may pine for a film that combines planet-crunching monsters, robot dinosaurs, and cyborg-girls, the truth is that such a bizarre mélange would be both prohibitively expensive and probably wouldn't go over well with the general movie-going public.
