Recently it was announced that the next film in the Transformers franchise would be called Transformers: Age of ExtinctionIt is set in the same universe as the previous Transformers films, but features a new human cast.

Michael Bay has taken to Twitter to give fans the behind the scenes treatment for his new film. Bay recently tweeted a new image from Transformers 4, featuring newcomers to the franchise Mark Wahlberg, Nicola Pelt (Bates Motel) and Jack Reynor (Dollhouse), who play Flynn Vincent (a gear-head inventor), his teenage daughter and her hot-rodding boyfriend, respectively.

The picture shows Wahlberg and his two young co-stars standing in front of what appears to be an abandoned gas station. Most of the film was shot in various locations in Texas, and it appears that this is one of the many scenes filmed in the Lone Star State. Is the positioning and body language of the actors meant to hint at what their personalities and relationships could be in the film? Take a look and decide for yourself:

With fresh new faces to the series, the addition of great actors such as Stanley Tucci and Kelsey Grammer, and the likely inclusion of the Dinobots, Transformers 4 could be just what the series needs to distinguish itself from the other two sequels, Revenge of the Fallen and Dark of the Moon.

Bay has said that this film will be a semi-reboot of the series, and the rumored storyline for the film is pretty epic in nature (if it turns out to be true). With so much fresh potential on their hands, hopefully Wahlberg, Bay and Co. can recapture some of magic that the first Transformers had.

Transformers: Age of Extinction will be released on June 27, 2014. We’ll keep you updated with more photos and footage when it becomes available.

  1. Using the title “Extinction” gives me hope that the dinobots will finally be there since being teased in viral videos from the first film, but the characters still have me worried it’ll be another disappointing teen centric cheese fest.

  2. Lets just hope they have more personaility than Shia Lebouf

  3. Anyone besides me sick of Autobots keep getting upgrades?

    • I am. Well, I don’t like the Autobots anyway. Put some focus on the Decepticons. They’ve been sorely lacking in the films.

      • I agree about the Decepticons been sorely lacking.

  4. Mark looks like drake from uncharted in that picture

  5. Still don’t care! And Bay & co. chances of recapturing the “magic” of the first film. NOT going to happen.

    • Magic?!?! Lol

      • I think he means that whatever it was that made the first film great has been sorely lacking from its sequels.

    • The…Magic of the original animated movie? Yeah, I doubt it.

      • The original animated movie had the touch.. and the power!

    • You do too care. You read the article. Come on man!

  6. I know it’s generally not right to judge a movie before it even comes out, but… I feel like the track record of the movies and the fact that it’s still Bay doing the directing almost justifies me dismissing this. Sure, it’s a fresh cast – but it’s still Bay casting and shaping the characters, which probably means more inappropriate jokes, not particularly likeable characters, and (again) no real focus on the Transformers who are, yknow, the actual *point* of the series.

But I’ll gladly eat my words and go watch it if the reviews turn out good (and by good I don’t mean ‘relative to Revenge of the Fallen is was good’, I mean it should be objectively good apart from the previous films.

  7. Nicola Peltz. You missed the “z.”

  8. The Age of posing like a supermodel is going to an Extinction?
I actually wished Bay would focus more on the actual star of the movie, that is the TRANSFORMERS themselves rather than the human. The first movie was acceptable because it showcase how people on Earth response to the encounter, but then it shifted towards human featuring the bots, almost always the focus went to the human and that’s probably my biggest gripe of all. I think the staff and producer and especially director should remember why they titled the movie at the first place…

    • Each movie made more than the last, so I don’t think they have much incentive to change unfortunately.

      • +1

    • They might make the film more Transformer-orientated. Since filming is probably still going on, they won’t have fully-finished CGI renders of all the Tranformers yet, so they can only show pictures of the actors, actresses and sets. Yeah, it’s shameless optimism, but you never know.

  9. Why are great actors supposed to make me excited. There were great actors in “Transformers: Dark Of The Moon”. Doesn’t mean they’ll have a chance to DO anything.

Any of the following names ring a bell?

    Frances McDormand?
    John Malkovich?
    Alan Tudyk?
    John Turturro?

They were ALL in Transformers: Dark Of The Moon!

Clearly the frikkin’ cast line up is completely blooming irrelevant, okay?

  10. Michael bay is a great special effects and action director but horrible at storytelling, in my opinion these are his best movies.
    1. Transformers, did not really care for madeup robots nor unrecognizable robots but seeing optimus prime being voiced by peter cullen was one of best
    moments in cinema history.
    2. Armaeggedon, bay shot this movie on the fly but the performances of willis,
owens, duncan, buscemi, fitchter and the fat guy and keith david more them made up for it.
    3. The island, the movie had a great premise until it melted down in the last 30

  11. i wanna see how Bay screws up the Dino bots, i’m praying it’s good as a fan but his track records with altering stuff from the source material sometimes makes it feel like new characters rather then the ones i grew up with

  12. are they shooting 4 and 5 back to back?

  13. Imma go watch this movie but it better be as good and if not better then the first 3 movies. You cant just take out the main actor that everyone loved.
