The 2011 Toy Fair is in full swing this week in New York City and the top toy manufacturers in the world are on hand to show off their upcoming line of playthings. Toys can tell fans a lot about an upcoming movie – such as Iron Man’s Mark VI armor or Cobra Commander’s new face in G.I. Joe – and that trend continues with Hasbro’s new line of toys for this summer’s sure-fire blockbuster Transformers: Dark of the Moon.

Last fall a security guard told the world that a beefy-looking fire truck was the Cybertonian leader Sentinel Prime – a fact that was recently confirmed by director Michael Bay. There were plenty of pictures and video of the fire truck sitting around downtown Chicago during filming this past summer but there haven’t been any pictures of Sentinel Prime in robot mode – until now. Below we have some pictures that give us our first look at Sentinel Prime, Optimus Prime in “battle-flight” mode and a new Autobot called Skyhammer.

Sentinel Prime

At the end of the Transformers: Dark of the Moon teaser trailer, the camera closes in on the face of an ancient alien robot – that robot is indeed Optimus Prime’s predecessor Sentinel Prime. Sentinel Prime has been entombed in the Autobot transport ship known as the Ark for hundreds of years until humans awaken him during an exploratory mission to the moon. When not in robot mode, Sentinel Prime will take the form of a Rosenbauer Panther 6×6 and below you can see the first images of him in robot and vehicle mode (albeit as a toy). Rumor has it the Ark will eventually transform into Omega Supreme and while the toy below doesn’t confirm that, it’s still a pretty cool toy to look at.

Optimus Prime

In Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen, Optimus combined (momentarily) with Jetfire to form a suped-up, bad-ass version of himself – with which he used to destroy The Fallen and rip most of Megatron’s face off. In Transformers: Dark of the Moon, fans will get a chance to see Optimus Prime’s tractor trailer for the first time and it appears he will use it for more than just hauling.  The toy below verifies what we saw in the Transformers 3 Super Bowl ad – the trailer will transform to give him more power and the ability to fly. Check out the pictures below to get a see Optimus Prime in “battle-flight” mode.

The Wreckers – Topspin & Roadbuster

Last month it was revealed that actor Bill Fagerbakke had been cast as the voice of the new blue NASCAR themed Autobot, who is part of the Wreckers team. The name of the new Autobot was still in the wind but because of Fagerbakke’s involvement with the animated Transformers series we were able to speculate on the names Bulkhead or Hotshot. The name of the blue wrecker has now been revealed as Topspin and you can see him and the green NASCAR wrecker – known as Roadbuster – below in both robot and vehicle mode.

Skyhammer

With the death of Jetfire in Revenge of the Fallen, the Autobots need a new ally who can battle the Decepticons in the air – that new ally is a little known robot named Skyhammer. Skyhammer had two modes in the animated series – a jet and a hover craft. With all the robot modifications being done by Michael Bay – such as having Megatron depicted as an Arctic-themed semi-truck – some fans may think he would show Skyhammer as something completely unrelated to the cartoon, like a soda machine or a newspaper stand. To his credit, Bay has left Skyhammer looking like a cool jet-copter. Check him out below:

With the Toy Fair running for several more days, expect to see more new robots revealed from Transformers: Dark of the Moon. Hopefully we’ll soon find out what giant robot is destroying Chicago with octopus-like tentacles and whether the flying robot alien is Laserbeak from the Super Bowl ad.

Transformers: Dark of the Moon blasts into theaters in 3D and IMAX 3D July 1st, 2011.

  1. “something completely unrelated to the cartoon, like a soda machine or a newspaper stand”
Pretty much covers how I feel about these movies now.

    • I think these toys are going to end up being cooler to look at than anything in the movie.

The kid in me admits that Skyhammer looks very cool. I might have to pick one up. :)

  2. Why need his trailer to fly in the original first few episodes of generation one autobots could fly too. But yet again fails with Transformers Optimus Primes trailer wasnt use for flight.

  3. prime was bad ass with jetfire in revenge of the fallen best part of the entire movie

    • That was garbage and a total waste of the Jetfire character. The Optimus Prime from generation 1 never had to combine to beat Megatron.

      • Prime combined with Jetfire to beat the Fallen.

        • Prime was also smashed to crap before he combined with Jetfire. Don’t think he would last over a second against the both them without an upgrade.

  4. I thought optimus was the last prime? How does that work with sentinel prime? Is he gunna use a space bridge to appear? Or will he be ‘offline’ at first after all they killed optimise and deactivated him in the same film, damn you Bay this just doesn’t make sense

    • @Emka

Emka, it makes PLENTY of sense, and it’s actually pretty obvious how Optimus, and not Sentinel, would be the last Prime. It’s also pretty simple. How? Take a CLOSE look at both Optimus’ and Sentinel’s faces, and there lies your answer.

  5. Not to go supernerd here, but, Skyhammer was never in the animated series http://tfwiki.net/wiki/Skyhammer_%28G1%29

    • @Laz – He actually joined the series after it the US run ended. Only place he ever really showed up was in the toy commercials – one supernerd to another :)

  6. This movie is gonna rock. Can not come out soon enough! Looking forward to the new additions!

  7. i just cant help myself feeling this sentinel prime movie version give me the impression of alpha tron as in 80s cartoon version.

  8. They also announced that the red Wrecker is named Leadfoot.

Also, Skyhammer wasn’t in the original cartoon. And it’s not entirely sure he’ll be in the movie.

  9. We also just found a new pic of Blitzwing.

    • That image isn’t from the movie obviously. It’s not detailed enough when you compare it to the rest of the robots.

  10. This new version of prime looks weird to me I remember in the G1 series when he used a jetpack to fly he never had wings, don’t understand why they have to change optimus I mean the combination of prime & jetfire was cool in TF 2 but this just looks wrong to me

    • I like the idea of using the trailer as part of his robot form. Never been done with Optimus before that I know of.

      • it has, amarda, engergon (sort of) cybertron (sort of)

  11. @ Bryan, the Gen 1 Optimus never ripped Megatron’s face off either…

    • True but has beat him down a bit though.

  12. I always thought the figures based on the Micheal Bay movies were too “busy” compared to the other toy lines. The only one I ever liked was Sideswipe. They look kinda strange with those oversized weapons in vehicle mode. I understand that kids, who are the main market for these toys, won’t care so I’m gonna end my nerd rant now.

I’m also disappointed that there’s no Sgt. Kup to accompany the Wreckers. :P

  13. There was a new spot that appeared during the nascar race today. new footage in the superbowl 30 second spot.

  14. Let us just remember that a toy version of a character isn’t always what we are going to see on screen.I feel that the whole Prime’s trailer thing, will just transform into his body and form armor or as we see a jet pack looking thing when he needs it. So the figure is obvously going to be different. And Vader’s 501st is correct Prime did indeed use a jet pack in the G1 series, even though the Autobots could fly as well.

    • Not in Transformers the movie just boosters.

  15. Is Skyhammer in the movie…. That would be sweet…..But The Daytona 500 Trailer was so sweet….OMG i can’t wait till July 1, 2011……Last year for da second film, i went on wikipedia and read the whole movie….not this year im not.. People keep sayin that ROTF was a failure, i thought that was a good movie. But the first one was better but i hope the third one tops them all

  16. Everything looks cool, i can’t wait. Just hope the storyline delivers. By the way, when did “AMP” energy drink sponsor Transformers?

  17. While I will openly admit to DESPISING the 2nd movie… (the first one was pretty good… I bought it on DVD) I must say I love the toys. I have both of the “Leader class” Optimus Primes from the two movies (I think that’s what they are. The really big complicated ones that cost $50.00 or so a piece.) They are a blast to transform and look great. Well you know… as good as they can look with that ridiculous paintjob that I firmly believe Optimus would never wear. And I am amazed at how different the two were from each other. both in appearance and in how they transform. They got some brilliant engineers making these toys. lol

anyways…. I will definitely be looking into the toys from this movie as well.

  18. These toys look much better. At least they don’t resemble a bunch of scrap metal pieces stuck together like some of the onscreen versions of characters in 1 and 2.

  19. man Topspin looks like he will kick some decepticon ass

  20. How many people watch Transformers just to see Megan Fox?

    • I do

  21. Can you give a behind the scenes of the whole movie?
