Sams parents returning for Transformers 3 Sam Witwickys Parents Return For Transformers 3

On top of hearing news of new actors such as John Malkovich, Frances McDormand and Ken Jeong joining the cast of Transformers 3, we’ve also been hearing word that familiar faces from the first two films will be returning. Aside from the obvious return of Shia LaBeouf and Megan Fox, we also learned that army soldiers  Tyrese Gibson and Josh Duhamel will be back.

Now we learn of another super surprising piece of casting news (sarcasm alert!): Kevin Dunn and Julie White, a.k.a. the parents of Sam Witwicky, will be reprising their roles in Transformers 3. Does this mean we’ll be getting more stupid humor scenes between them and Sam – moments which were far too prolific in the first two movies? Probably.

The scenes of Sam’s parents just clogged up Transformers 1 and 2. I don’t know if it’s just me, but I really don’t get why there are so many of those moments where banter or even physical slapstick (sometimes involving DOGS!) are littered throughout these movies about giant transforming robots…

I guess we can’t really be surprised to hear about all of these characters returning for Transformers 3. At least it means fewer new characters for Bay to waste spend time focusing on, instead of actually developing established characters like Optimus Prime, Bumblebee and the rest of the core robots we all want to see. But at the same time, we know we can expect more of the same kind of crappy scenes involving these returning human characters, like the Witwickys.

Are you glad to see Sam’s parents returning for Transformers 3? Do you think it means more of the same tired humor we saw from them in the first two movies?

Transformers 3 will start pre-shoots next month for a release on July 1st, 2011. The studio has been putting pressure on Michael Bay to make the film in 3D but the jury is still out on that.

  1. I thought the parents in the first one were really funny. I like them in the first movie.

When I saw the second one it seems that they were just trying too hard and was just tasteless humor.

I hope they tone it down in the second one and bring back that formula with the first.

    • I think the parents add humor to the films. I for one think Kevin Dunn and Julie White are very funny together. Makes you wonder how Sam became so smart. I’m glad their back.

  2. Liked the parents – no problem with them. Nothing wrong with laughing, a little over the top in the 2nd, but it was o.k. Absolutely don't need the crude dog 'humor.'

  3. I liked pretty much everything about the first movie, but the second one sucked hard. I'm hoping they find the right balance for the third. And no transforming people please!

  4. One of my biggest problems with the second movie was his parents. There were a good amount of scenes with them involved that didnt need to be. It really bothered me when she had “Hash Brownies.” Just unfunny and pointless.

  5. As long as they don't have the robot twins I will be fine. I wanted to duct tape a hand grenade to my head and head but Michael Bay after I watched the second movie!

  6. Think you're absolutely right about how the parents were used in the two films. They were fine in the first, served their purpose to move the story along and add some humor. In the second though they felt forced. The writers just need to find a balance for them.

  7. Ditto. that was lame

    • wa!

  8. As long as they kill off Megan in the first 30 seconds… It could turn into a Transformers cooking show and I would love it!

  9. I have to agree the parents werent quite right and had too much screne time in the second movie. I really think they need to tone down the human characters to make way for the robots. for instance: they couldve done so much more with Sideswipe and especially Arcee and Jolt (I didnt even realize Jolt was there until he fused Optimus and Jetfire).

all and all I like Sams parents. theyre funny but we should definatelly see less of the in TF3.a few scenes towards the begining should be fine.

  14. yeah im probably not going to watch this in the cinema, might just rent it out.
i couldnt stand the loud noises, stupid humour and bad acting of the 2nd (and partially the 1st) transformers.
i really hope this is the last of the series, but knowing studios they would probably force explosive obsessed bay to make another and another

  15. Wow, Now that sounds complicated, lol

  16. I found the father in the 2nd movie OK; the first movie I thought they were idiotic. What I really would like to see is no more stupid robotic jokes, no humping robots, no robots with genitalia, no more homeboy robots, no more Terminator-like robots, more butt-kicking Optimus Prime, Metroplex and Unicron. Bay, give me that and less crappy jokes, I would see your movie multiple times.

  17. This is terrible news, but no surprise.

  18. Then somehow they ended up in the desert with the Transformers!! That was totally uncalled for!

  19. Audiences seem split pretty even on the human vs Transformer screen presence and time. Perhaps Bay makes a conscious choice to cut across all aspects of interest. That translates into a movie that has something for everybody but ultimately doesn't satisfy anybody thoroughly. In trying to reach out to everybody he fosters the hope in them that they'll see what they want which gets them in the theater. However it's impossible to deliver everything to everybody. Making a movie is as much about paring the story down to something manageable as is to making something enjoyable. That means creating a line that focuses on elements that moves the story from a beginning to a middle to an end and still remain coherent and entertaining all in the space of 90 to 110 minutes.

I would say a fair representation of the audience here wants to see the story of the Transformers only, human involvement brought down to a minimum. Others want imagined for them what a world would be like with machines like those in their possession or at the very least in the everyday world sans the extraordinary emphasis on some Transformer centric goals beyond human interaction and cohabitation.

If something like that is the case is it any wonder the movies have thus far turned out as they have? This treatment probably bodes the same results, despite any improvement Mr. Bay thinks he can insert into the next story because of the way he sees the franchise…

  20. The scenes with the parents were the only enjoyable moment in the crappy second movie.

  21. I can handle the parents comming back if they can find a way to bring Bernie Mac back.

  22. Amen to that

  23. Yeah, sucks that Mac died.
Anyways I hope that we will not have a long scene about the Mom getting high this time around. I am excited for this movie the second movie may have been worse then the first movie but I still want to see the third.

  24. Gotta disagree aboutthe parents. When at thetheatre opening nightfor both of these movies, the biggest laughs in the audience came from these 2 characters and their humour was well recieved.

I don't think its a problem to have some humour in a Transformers film. Some movies this would be bad like PEARL HABOR, another Bay film. However just like BAD BOYS, Transformers can benefit from the ocassional well placed humour bits.

  25. lol that pretty much what I decided. Only I'm not going to waste money renting it. I'll just wait and watch the bootleg online.

  26. The parents are hilarious cant wait to have them back. O and mayb it just me ,but I wud also like to c anthony anderson and that hot blonde australian chick from the first movie return. Transformers 4ever. Thank u Michael Bay:)

  27. i hope unicron picks their house up and eats it they were dull characters who should of been in the background like the rest of the human cast
