Over the months, we’ve seen plenty of material show up online for this summer’s Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen. Most of these gave us glimpses at the returning characters from the first film and of many of the new additions to the Cybertronian cast.
One of the new characters debuting in this TF2 goes by the name of Sideways and who takes the form of the luxurious Audi R8 while in vehicle mode but until now, we’ve seen so little on him.

Unlike most of the characters that we’ve seen from the concept art and toy images, we had seen nothing on this character until some toy reviews came online. Those didn’t give good details of what the character would look like in the film unfortunately. He (it?) did however have a quick scene in the trailers running/driving away from Arcee (there were multiple motorcycles in the pursuit) but it didn’t give us a good look at the character in full form.
Well, Michael Bay addressed this directly by putting up an image of the character on his official website:

He sure looks similar to Barricade, the Decepticon police car from the first film who by a blatant plot hole disappeared during one scene never to return in the movie again. There are rumors that say this is simply that character in the form of a different vehicle but there’s nothing confirmed on that front.

Note the similarities in their face, chest, arms and the hands with wheel-wrists. From what we know so far, I wrote in Screen Rant’s Transformers 2 Character Guide that Sideways is a courier for the Decepticons, cowardly avoiding combat and hiding behind his larger teammates during battle.

It showed in the prequel comics to “Revenge of the Fallen” that Barricade got pwned by Optimus on the highway and was left out of action throughout the rest of the film.
Yeah he got smashed by optimus and bailed on his decepticon buddies for the final battle. One of the writers said the explanation would be “implied” in rotf.
Oh and I forgot to mention they said there will be a video shown with “new” footage during the MTV movie awards Saturday may 30th 9:30 eastern time.

Yeah man, I heard that crap….I guess now I have a reason to watch the MTV Movie Awards(AKA: The most meaningless award show EVER)
Sideways looks pretty cool. Probably be one of the toys I’ll be picking up… lol.
Not to harp on the point, but it’s hard not to note the similarities this robot has to every other robot we’ve seen in the franchise. Note the skeletal limbs, the hideous mishmash of parts that resemble little more than scrap sheet steel and forks glued together, the face that looks like a metal anus with LED eyes. Hey, is that Barricade? Or Megatron? Or Blackout? Or Ironhide? Who knows? Pop these designs on flashcards and give people one second to ID the robot and I could predict the outcome with alarming certainty… the sort of random luck a chicken has guessing the backs of playing cards.

That was part of my issue with the look of the robots as well. I suppose that made them more “realistic” but really, especially while in motion they looked like walking junkyards to me.

*laughs* Oh man, don’t I know it. The first time my wife, best friend and I watched “Transformers” (on DVD, with Mike Nelson, Bill Corbett, and Kevin Murphy’s excellent rifftrax synched up), we were so utterly confused by the ‘bot design. We likened every robot battle sequence to “two toasters full of silverware banging into each other.” They’re junk sculptures — I kept looking for them to throw shadows that resemble cats or people fishing or a butter churn or something.

I’ve been researching this some more and it sounds like a lot of people are saying barricade becomes Sideways but I have no idea if this is legit or not.
Where is Wheel Jack? Wheel Jack is the very first transformer ever seen on the original cartoon. I would love to see him in this movie. Wheel Jack was a major component of the Autobots as their scientist and inventor. I hope Michael Bay was intelligent enough to include him. The movie would be much better focusing on generation 1 transformers.
I am happy to see devistator made it and with his rightful name. I thought it was a gross misjudgement to name a character Devistator in the 1st movie and it not be the assembled constructicons. From what I understand they have patched things up with new constructicons.
With all this said, I really liked the first movie and Im sure the writters helped keep Michael Bay in focused. Cant wait to see this flick.
I don’t understand people who complain about Transformers being a mess of parts and what not. Can you do any better than ILM? I think not. Can any other companies do better? I have my doubts. Maybe Cameron could do amazing things with Transformers if it was his franchise but we would have to wait 10 years for the movie to come out. Don’t get me wrong, I love his work.
You know one transformer I really want to see in film(maybe the third film) is Shockwave.
Barricade disappeared during the first film because during Revenge of the Fallen I have a hunch his spark has something to do with the revival of Megatron…….just a thought..
I’ve heard Barricade is going to be in the sequel. With that being said, everyone knows we’ve been having rumors flying around since the first movie came out… so, read as much into that as you want.
i heard barricade was going to be in the 3 third movie which by the way im excited bout and also about barricade in the first movie didnt he get like beat up or destroid by BUMBLEBEE, just saying if yah ppl noticed that but yeah they do look similar, it would be kool if they were like twins or bros and that way skids and mudflap would be like mortal enemiiezs
