Transformers isn’t any different. Everyone has a different sense of humor and the writers try to please everyone, especially in a summer blockbuster with a huge budget and is looking to make it’s money back plus some. Sometimes it works, more often than not it doesn’t. I really didn’t care for any of the secondary characters in the 1st film. They barely served a purpose in the scenes they were in, much less, the whole of the film. Let’s be honest though, we weren’t there to watch acting, we were there to watch action and it delivered plenty of that. BTW, it is OK to complain about realism in a movie that is obviously out of the realm of realism. There are accepted movie truths in every film, sci-fi, action, horror and even some dramas that are different then real world truths. For example, Transporter 2, we accept the fact that he can drive a super bad car and do it with mad skills but we all groan when the car flips upside while he drives it and picks a bomb off the bottom. It doesn’t fall within the scope of truth the movie has established for itself. Transformers is the same way, the film asks us to believe that the US government is so advanced that we are the 1st responders to an alien threat but at the same time we have nothing but inept morons in charge of our military and have no sense of military protocol whatsoever. (That is my take on the movie world not the real world) That’s why we groan and roll our eyes when a robot is aboard the plane and makes tapping sounds with each move it makes and crosses over in plain sight across the floor but then no one is suppose to hear or see it? Come on! We accept the fact that robots exist but not that they can’t be heard or seen.
