IESB got emailed a a promo newsletter letting them (and subsequently all of us) know when the first tickets for Transformers: Revenge of The Fallen go on sale. And that date is June 10, 2009, a full two weeks before Revenge of The Fallen hits theaters on June 24, 2009.

Seems like Michael Bay and Paramount are anticipating a big box office rush; especially in the IMAX theaters. And after seeing that  Revenge of The Fallen teaser trailer, I’m thinking Bay and co. have every reason to be optimistic. IMAX theaters all over the country are going to be packed come June 24.

Here’s a snippet of the email talking about the advanced IMAX ticket sales for Revenge of The Fallen:

Filmed on location at the Steven F. Udvar-Hazy Center, and including several scenes shot with IMAX cameras, “Transformers Revenge of the Fallen” promises to be the most action-packed IMAX experience of the summer.

“Transformers Revenge of the Fallen” is scheduled to open Wednesday, June 24 at the Airbus IMAX Theater in Chantilly, VA. Tickets will go on sale Wednesday, June 10.

Ok, so we know that Chantilly, VA will be getting Revenge of The Fallen tickets on June 10, and while I find it hard to believe that one location would start selling tickets before anywhere else, I won’t go so far as to confirm that tickets for Revenge of The Fallen will be on sale that same day at an IMAX theater near you.

Speaking of the IMAX: for those who don’t know, Transformers: Revenge of The Fallen has scenes that were actually filmed with IMAX cameras (a la The Dark Knight), meaning that the extra dollars you fork out for an IMAX ticket are actually going to be worth it this time around. Nothing like seeing Devastator in all his IMAX glory.

Here are some additional technical details about Revenge of The Fallen‘s IMAX sequences, courtesy of the official IMAX website:

In the highly-anticipated Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen,  Sam Witwicky (Shia LaBeouf) again joins with the Autobots® against their sworn enemies, the Decepticons®. Michael Bay directs from a screenplay by Ehren Kruger & Roberto Orci & Alex Kurtzman.

Director Michael Bay will shoot key sequences of Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen with IMAX® cameras. Bay will integrate the IMAX footage with state of the art CGI to create an unprecedented look and feel for the highly anticipated sequel to last year’s box office hit, Transformers.

The movie sequences shot in traditional 35mm will be digitally re-mastered into the unparalleled image and sound quality of The IMAX Experience® with IMAX DMR® (Digital Re-mastering) technology.  The IMAX DMR scenes will appear in the traditional “letterbox” shape, while scenes shot with IMAX’s cameras will expand vertically to fill the entire IMAX

Devastator will need ever inch of IMAX space he gets.

If you can remember as far back as last summer (or this past January) when The Dark Knight was in theaters, then you know just how spectacular those true IMAX sequences look on that gigantic screen. The thought of seeing my favorite giant robots of all time slug it out again (hopefully in wider-angled shots) makes me geek out just a bit.

Does the thought of seeing Transformers: Revenge of The Fallen in IMAX give you goosebumps? Or are you one of those bitter people still hating on this film?

  1. awesome! can’t wait. i’ll be buying tickets on the 10th for sure!

  2. wow i still love that picture of devastator and the teaser poster.

  3. Count me bitter. :p

Well I only just saw it last night! (for free on tv so Bay’s getting nothing from me)

Stuff with the Transformers in was actually cool. But the humans were stupid and annoying and they were in it far too much.
I wanted to see Megatron and Optimus beat each other up for 5 minutes, not Sam hiding and soldiers shooting at a Decepticon.

If Bay made a movie which was actually about the Transformers, I might pay to see it.

  4. Steven the git

Then you’ll want a ticket for Transformers 2. All reports indicate that Bay has listened to those very criticisms of the first film and tried to get them right in the second film.

  5. i was they would hurry up and show us devastator in a future trailer, i mean we have seen “the fallen” in the last trailer now lets see devastator.

  6. I’ll need more than reports and indications. ;)

  7. Ohh baby… seeing Transformers 2 in full IMAX glory is going to be awesome!! I loved how they did it with the Dark Knight and I think the full IMAX treatment will be even more effective when displaying the full glory of these amazing robots!!

  8. SO Kofi if what you are saying is that

Shia’s and Megan Fox’s annoying characters get killed in the first five minutes and then it’s just Autobots VS Decipticons for the next 105 minutes

if so I’ll get my ticket thing about Bay is that he does make good action movies..not acting movies just action.. ;)

  9. Here’s a question regarding this movie..will it make 100 million on it’s opening weekend?..will any movie make that much on opening weekend this year…Potter?Wolverine?..I don’t see a serious contender for that new benchmark except maybe this film..I am being short-sighted because I am not looking at all of the big releases..

  10. steve the git,

if you think about it Bay got did get something from you, 2 hours of your life

  11. Hmmm, I live in Maryland and can get to Chantilly pretty easily. Maybe I should check this out.

I thought Shia and the marines were fine but the rest of the actors sucked. Blame Bay for that. Hopefully, Trek gets at least 100 million the first weekend but I think Wolvie is a lock, unless FOx has done it again. I also think Potter will do it and Terminator.

  12. No movie will do $100 mill opening weekend. Not even close.

  13. @Cat
I’ll bet all of Vic’s paycheck that Wolverine makes over 100 million. :-)

  14. he said opening weekend, read the post again. Not even the dark knight came close to that number. Wolverine is no dark knight.

  15. @Cat

Sorry, I beg to differ. 11 movies have had $100MM+ opening weekends, and Iron Man came with $2MM of making it as well:

  16. I was wrong I guess. Are those numbers domestic or worldwide?

  17. @Cat

Those would be domestic numbers I am pretty sure.

  18. Domestic, yup.

  19. @Cat
I did mean first weekend referring to Wolverine. Of course it will make over 100 million total.

  20. Tickets out, can’t wait to see the movie!
