If you’re like me one of the problems you may have had with the first two Transformers movies was the overabundance of human related stuff. In a movie with the title “Transformers” that is based on an ’80s cartoon and toy line, I don’t think it’s too much to ask that the Transformers are what take precedent over everything else.
Of course, in Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen they gave us more robots and destruction, but it was done all wrong and it became a big crashing, almost incomprehensible mess that was fun only so far as watching metal carnage throwdowns on-screen. I’ll admit I dug Revenge of the Fallen more than most but that doesn’t mean I hail it as anything great or even good.
For those interested in the human characters you may be happy to learn the following: Tyrese Gibson, who played Sgt. Epps in the first two Transformers movies, will reprise his role for Transformers 3. The confirmation comes straight from Gibson himself who Tweeted the following – “Yes I will for sure be in Transformers 3… Get Ready!! Epps is here to STAY!!”
Gibson also Tweeted the following, along with a pic – “TRANSFORMERS 3: Is Full THrottle Full Steam Ahead….. Michael Bay gave me the start date.. And I can’t share…”
It’s certainly no surprise to find out Gibson is reprising his role but it’s always good to get confirmation on these sorts of things. I just wonder if he will have a bigger role than he did in Revenge of the Fallen, where you probably missed him if you happened to blink. Not that Gibson’s character is more important than the giant robots, but it did stand out when he was hardly to be seen last time around.
With Transformers 3 getting released on July 1st, 2011, I wouldn’t be surprised if that start date Gibson mentioned was within the next few months (we heard word that the film could start shooting this May). The film might be going the 3D route (Paramount is reportedly pressuring Bay into filming in 3D), adding to the already massive amount of work that needs to go into the pre-production, shooting and post-production (special effects). They’ll definitely need to get going soon.
Are you glad Tyrese Gibson is back as Sgt. Epps in Transformers 3? Or could you not care less?
Transformers 3 is once again being directed by Michael Bay. This time the script will be handled by Ehren Kruger (instead of Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci) and both Shia LaBeouf and Megan Fox are set to reprise their starring roles. As stated, the film is set to hit theaters (perhaps in 3D) on July 1st, 2011.
