Transformers 3: Tyrese Gibson Confirms His Return

Transformers Tyrese Gibson Transformers 3: Tyrese Gibson Confirms His Return

If you’re like me one of the problems you may have had with the first two Transformers movies was the overabundance of human related stuff. In a movie with the title “Transformers” that is based on an ’80s cartoon and toy line, I don’t think it’s too much to ask that the Transformers are what take precedent over everything else.

Of course, in Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen they gave us more robots and destruction, but it was done all wrong and it became a big crashing, almost incomprehensible mess that was fun only so far as watching metal carnage throwdowns on-screen. I’ll admit I dug Revenge of the Fallen more than most but that doesn’t mean I hail it as anything great or even good.

For those interested in the human characters you may be happy to learn the following: Tyrese Gibson, who played Sgt. Epps in the first two Transformers movies, will reprise his role for Transformers 3. The confirmation comes straight from Gibson himself who Tweeted the following – “Yes I will for sure be in Transformers 3… Get Ready!! Epps is here to STAY!!”

Gibson also Tweeted the following, along with a pic – “TRANSFORMERS 3: Is Full THrottle Full Steam Ahead….. Michael Bay gave me the start date.. And I can’t share…”

It’s certainly no surprise to find out Gibson is reprising his role but it’s always good to get confirmation on these sorts of things. I just wonder if he will have a bigger role than he did in Revenge of the Fallen, where you probably missed him if you happened to blink. Not that Gibson’s character is more important than the giant robots, but it did stand out when he was hardly to be seen last time around.

With Transformers 3 getting released on July 1st, 2011, I wouldn’t be surprised if that start date Gibson mentioned was within the next few months (we heard word that the film could start shooting this May). The film might be going the 3D route (Paramount is reportedly pressuring Bay into filming in 3D), adding to the already massive amount of work that needs to go into the pre-production, shooting and post-production (special effects). They’ll definitely need to get going soon.

Are you glad Tyrese Gibson is back as Sgt. Epps in Transformers 3? Or could you not care less?

Transformers 3 is once again being directed by Michael Bay.  This time the script will be handled by Ehren Kruger (instead of Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci) and both Shia LaBeouf and Megan Fox are set to reprise their starring roles. As stated, the film is set to hit theaters (perhaps in 3D) on July 1st, 2011.

  1. Heard he's a die hard Transformers Fanboy (think he was talking about that during an interview for the first movie).
I like him in the movies (even tho it's a small role)

  2. His character was totally under-used in ROF.

  3. His screen time and the other guy that with Fergie were no where near close to the first. I liked their characters in the first and they didn't annoy me at all. That desert scene was one of my favorite scen. I like to see more transformers but in ROF was done all wrong. I'm glad he is back.

  4. YESS!!! You can't have a transformers movie without Tyrese! His character is so pivotal to the immensely deep plot that we have become accustomed to in the Transformers series. I just hope we can have some compelling dialogue from him like in the first Transformers movie. Who can forget the line “LEFT CHEEK! LEFT CHEEK! LEFT CHEEK!” He delivered that line with such feeling and grace. I think T3 will really give Tyrese a chance to show off his oscar-contending acting chops. It's just a shame he will probably be snubbed at the oscars – AGAIN! (read deeply – almost overly – sarcastic)

  5. yeaa these films blow out the ass they need to jus do a live action cgi of jus transformers no humans or make a film called ANNOYING POINTLESS PEOPLE REVENGE OF SAMS DUMB ASS MOM wait that should have been the title of the sencond one

  6. Well yay. The character that no one cares about is back.

Just kidding. He adds comic relief.

  7. Is it true their gonna kill off Megan Fox' character?

  8. Oh yeah……I could careless if Tyrese is in the movie…..The movie actually needs to be good this time…..I could have done without the two ghetto Autobots added for non-humorous comic relief……

  9. LOL

  10. Cant wait to see Transformers 3 in 3D with great Cast !!and i'm happy to see also Spielberg and Michael Bay back too into that Trilogy Movie !!

  11. Well I looked at this dude Ehren Kruger's previous movies and it looks like he specializes in Thriller/Horror movies, Arlington Road, Scream 3, The Ring 1 and 2, The Skeleton Key, but it also credits him as being part of the group who wrote Transformers 2. Well here's to hoping Transformers 3 will be darker.

  12. Nice to hear one of the better human characters in the series is back, but we could sure use news about the new robots (supposedly James Avery is going to voice Silverbolt)

  13. New robots to replace the 'GhettoBots'……

    • I loved the two funny robots…. They were nowhere near ghetto

      • And yes we would love to see Tyrese display his acting skills again

  14. I can honestly do without everyone but “Sam”. Fox was useless in Fallen. I'm OD'ed with the parents, Simmons is the Jar-Jar (note: The Ghetto Twins are JarJar times 2- as if we ever thought that could be possible). #1 was a MASTERPIECE, #2 was a pathetic inferior copy of #1. Enough of the F*****ing humans already. Please.

  15. As long as this transformers actually focuses on the robots, instead of the humans, then I'm fine with that. Oh, and they also need to give Sideswipe more screen time because that first 30 seconds of him were bad ass! And I really hope they put Sunstreaker in this, and have him and Sideswipe have a back-to-back/brother-to-brother fight. That would be so badass!

  16. Everyone wants to blame Bay for Revenge of the Fallen being bad but the same thing will happen if the studio rushes this movie. It will end up bad and make money still but the overall feel will be negative. I don't think we'll get a great Transformers movie until we get a reboot five years from now with Cameron or Nolan directing. Hehe

  17. Duck

I heard the same thing and saw some early pics of concept art of Silverbolt that looked pretty decent.

  18. after avatar more movies will be made in 3-d because they think if 3-d then they can make 2.4 billion too……..LOL
forget the 3-d and just make a good movie, if it is good people will go see it and tell others.

  20. Legion was gnarly

  21. Tyrese Gibson is a cool guy! I even have a shot of where we are together! :) Tyrese, for you it’s a surprise or not? Do you remember me? :)

  22. I love Tyrese…I watched the 1st 2 movies because he was in it.

  23. Praise the Lord God Bless You Very proud of you cant wait to see the movie!! : D

  24. Its good to see the brotha’s return…but seriously we all know he’s gonna die in a quick and infuriating way. (As that is what happens with most black characters)
