Transformers 3 Casts Malkovich, McDormand and Jeong

Michael Bay takes a lot of crap from the online film community for his directorial style and decisions, but those criticisms don’t seem to bother him because he’s one of the most vocal directors working today. The outspoken auteur keeps in good contact with fans and foes alike through message boards and blog posts on his website, MichaelBay.com.

Today, Bay updated his site with some big news for Transformers 3: Academy Award-winning actress Frances McDormand, Academy-Award nominee John Malkovich, and up-and-coming funnyman Ken Jeong have joined the cast.

According to Deadline, Malkovich will play Sam Witwicky’s “first boss” and McDormand will play a “big role” as the National Intelligence Director. No word yet on Jeong’s role, but is it too much to ask he reprise his role from Community and teach Shia’s college Spanish course as Senor Chang?

In addition to the casting news, Bay revealed the shooting locations for the film – sites include Los Angeles, Chicago, Washington DC, Florida, Texas, Africa, Moscow (confirming news earlier this month), and China. Looks like the “bigger is better” approach the filmmakers took with Revenge of the Fallen is being revisited when it comes to locations; let’s hope the rest of the movie is toned down a bit.

Bay also released the identity of the “newest Autobot to join the Transformers: the Ferrari 458 Italia.” I’m not a car connoisseur, but just doing a simple Google Image Search of that vehicle confirms what we already expected: at least the car will look cool.

No word yet about a stereotypical racist Italian voiceover, or if the Ferrari will attempt to cook spaghetti. (For those who don’t pick up on the sarcasm, please remember the Mudflap and Skids fiasco from Revenge of the Fallen.)

Transformers 3 begins pre-shoots next month, and is set for a July 1st, 2011 release.

  1. i kissed megan fox last night. and she slapped me

  2. “No word yet about a stereotypical racist Italian voiceover, or if the Ferrari will attempt to cook spaghetti.”

    ROFLMAO!

  3. hey.. i liked mudflap and skids.. i thought they were funny! well atleast a bit. i wouldnt say they were a fiasco! i hope they come back.. oh yeah, you heard me!

  4. I'd think that anything would be an improvement over T2. And having Senior Chang onboard makes it that much better!

  5. I still have a bad feeling about this movie

  6. i like how they actually take apart the vehicles and study the individual parts to help them make up the transformers… pretty much the only cool thing about the bay versions of transformers.
#2 was bad… very bad, just a fancy light and explosive show with CGI added for extra entertainment, nothing more.

  7. OK – so we know we were all disappointed with TF2. We know the stories were too busy, the characters weren't all introduced properly, there was just too much going on. But….

Sso far some of what I was hoping will come true. I don't know if the rumors and deep research I have done online helps. Some of this confirms the details I have come across so far. Others not so much.. so… I'm hoping for a good story with good action, new TF's on both sites, with some of the older one's (like Barricade) who was nowhere to be found in the final battle of #1 and or wasn't present for #2.

Sam will have graduated college by this time (hopefully), and be on his first job assignment (hence the comment about his first bos/Malko). The Autobots seems to have worldwide HQ's setup (see the list of filming locations noted above) to track the nasty Decepticons and their current plot. The TF's are now open to public view and protecting human kind. I'm guessing that same will be working in some government research job/facility with his connections to national security since his graduation and the government will want to keep him happy, and probably still be dating Meg Fox (hope so!), but we don't need anymore of the love story, unless she is killed off .. I know she signed and is back for the picture in TF3.

If you want to see the Ferrari chosen for the film per the news release, check this link out. http://www.motorward.com/2009/07/ferrari-458-it

Hope to see some more Autobots, like Hound (jeep), Cliffjumper (mini), sunstreaker (sideswipe's brother and Lamborghini), Sideswipe (again!! with more depth), Blustreak (Porsche), BRING JAZZ BACK FOR GOD's SAKE, Mirage (F1 car, perhaps a SALEEN?), Prowl, Porsche/Bluestreak's brother/twin). … and a few more.. if they go global they could introduce several characters on all these continents. Man I hope this one rocks, and they lose a few (twins) for the new TF3.. C'mon hollywood, listen to the fans!

Let's see how it all comes together

  8. I'm with you. I hope it comes out well so we don't hear so much bashing about the stuff we grew up with. People don't know when to stop. Like they could do any better.

The Ferrari supposed to be Hot Rod maybe? I'd like to see the Nissan Z340 as Smokescreen. That would be awesome.

And I don't think Barricade will be back. Someone said Ironhide killed him in battle between the first and second Transformers movies but we'll never see that. It was in the Revenge of the Fallen prequel or something. You can find the comic online.

  9. Just for the record, the “ass shot” scene in Revenge of the Fallen was John Turturro's idea, so I wouldn't pin that one on Michael Bay / writers. I know Bay is an enabler but c'mon.

  10. For sure. I hope they can now pull together a great story now, and tie it all together with good action, CGI and TF's. I heard Bay say he wanted the story to go “sideways now” and not so much “bigger” like the second film. It was just way too busy with too much going on.. and the “Twins”??? Why would he go that route..?? Sure, comedy, but really???

Good choice for the possible “Hot Rod” TF. I'm not sold on them being ready to introduce him before some of the others, listed in my previous post. I'm really not sure who the new Ferrari will be ???

As for the others, they need to get a platoon of these TF's stationed around the world to protect the human race from those nasty Decepticons (LOL).

I even went back and started watching my Gen1 series cartoons on DVD from Episode I just last night! Brings back so many memories.. and now what I'm older, I see ton's of errors on the cartoon as well… nothing is perfect, but man it brings back memories !!

    Here's hoping!

  11. Hey guys, let's give Bay some credit. He has made some really kick-ass films with action in the past. Do you really think anyone else could have pulled off this movie as well as the 1st one? No way, no how. It's the way in how he brings action, with CGI, events and something as BIG as the Transformers together!

It would not be easy and I think the CGI teams did a great job on the bots. Let's give him his due, and wait to see what happens in #3 before we all start trashing it.

Hopefully, he listened a little to the fans of the film on what went wrong in 2, and will fix it with 3, add new bots, an HQ for the Autobots, a good story.. and some bang up action sequences..

  12. I agree !

  13. No matter what you say about his films, you can't deny Bay knows how to assemble a great cast.
