The other day, Screen Rant writer Ross discussed the synopsis and new interactive poster for Gamer. Now, just two days later, we have the new trailer for the video game-styled movie that will open late this summer. This official trailer was released to X-Box Live users before quickly making its way onto YouTube for everyone to see.
While this is the first English trailer for Gamer, it isn’t our first look at footage from the movie. Back in March, an Italian version of the trailer was leaked online and it provided us with our first glimpse of the film. Unfortunately, there also was some negative buzz online about the movie that extended from mixed reviews of test-screenings that took place late last year. During all of this time, the movie has been subject to some title changes and is now simply named Gamer.

The film is written and directed by Mark Neveldine and Brian Taylor who brought us the infamous Crank films so we can expect some intense and over-the-top action sequences. From the mixed reviews and the folks behind the movie, we can say that Gamer is intended for that niche market who enjoy the Crank-style films, hardcore action and obviously, video gamers.
If you think you fall into that group or if you simply want to see Gerard Butler kicking ass and taking names like he did in 300, but with guns and explosives instead of swords and spears this time around, then you need to watch this trailer:
While this movie has a ridiculous plot and Michael C. Hall’s character is terrible in the trailer, Gamer does look like some decent popcorn action-oriented fun. It’s like Punisher: War Zone meets Death Race with a cool lead actor.
Gamer hits theaters September 4, 2009.

Just looking at the picture at the top of the thread, can’t see the trailer here. At work and it’s blocked, oh well…
Two things popped to mind: The Sliders Episode: “A thousand deaths” and The Running Man…
Doesn’t look bad. Butler is turning into Hollywood gold, but Kyra Sedgwick? Big Screen? That surprised me a little bit.
I was totally thinking of Death Race while watching that trailer. If it’s like it then you’re right, it’ll be a good popcorn flick to just have fun with. The concept looks very intriguing though so it could be more than that, possibly one of those movies that is thought of as a cult movie years down the road.
Holy Crap my Pants!! That’s is just crazy. Dexter and the Closer together is a great combination. Ludacris is ok as an actor but I think people are giving him more credit than he deserves. What’s funny is this was being pushed as a mind control movie and by the poster it looks like the kid plays an integral part but the trailer doesn’t portray that at all. I will be seeing this in theaters come September, popcorn in one hand and a fresh role of toilet paper in the other.
Ok, just saw the trailer, I think I saw a little bit of Michael C Hall dancing… I HAVE to see that, lol. Dexter doing a musical number, man, that must be funny as hell.
About the rest of the movie, reminds me of Running Man/Death Race, although I never saw Death Race, I get the same vibe from this trailer as from watching the DR trailer…
Definite Running Man/Death Race vibe there. Also the grey metal hues remind me of Terminator Salvation.
I don’t know what to think. It feels to much like an over used concept. I mean it’s got it’s own little twist, but the concept of prisoners killing for entertainment and then getting released for doing well. Yea it’s a bit over used. The action looks decent, but it looks over acted. It reminds me of the condemned, but with a bigger budget and oddly enough less of a story. I mean Condemned was a fairly simplistic action film with very little thought and it’s hard to imagine a film that’s less story oriented, but this does fit the bill from what I can see.

Of course I thought Death Race was a lot of fun, so that may not be a bad thing.

Don’t know where you guys are getting the Death Race thing from. But like VIC said, Death Race was FUN movie. Here the action looks pretty intense so at least we’ll have that and hopefully a great story because they have the actors that can pull it off.
Death Race was fun the first time around, but much like Epic Movie after that it was bleh.
