Ok, ok, fine.
Here’s the first trailer to the remake of The Day the Earth Stood Still starring Keanu Reeves.
If you don’t know, this version puts a Greenpeace spin on the classic film from 1951. Here’s a quote from the trailer:
“If you die, Earth survives.”
Within the context of the film, I presume Keanu/Klaatu means mankind and not Jennifer Connely, to whom he is saying the line. So there ya go - in the big picture, the Earth is more important than the survival of mankind.

Looks to me like it rips a lot from Close Encounters of the First Kind, but what do I know?
The Day the Earth Stood Still is scheduled to open December 2008.

I thought the trailer was incredible when I saw it in theatre. The movie has nothing to do with the original, but on its own, it look pretty sweet.
scoop #4
I am tired of hollywoods “Humanity is destroying the earth message.”
I will skip this.
I’m all for conserving and taking care of the planet we live on, but that’s a pretty miserable tag line.
I’d like to point out that line to the critics who complained that they thought Wall-E was depressing and misanthropic (not you, Vic, cause, well, you didn’t say that
).
THAT line is the essence of misanthropic environmentalism and the hopeless guilt it engenders.
In other news, I see Keanu is still wearing his trademark expression: Dull ambivalence.
MAybe if you keep getting hit over the head with the message you will finally get it…Humans are destroying the planet…Bottom line…If that’s hard to hear or read then I agree with Jersey that you need to get over your hopeless guilt that that statement causes…If we have faith we can fix the Earth then we really can do it but more people need to get over the guilt and start in your own backyard..I blame mass media and their lack of support and how the super-rich are selling consumerism to everybody…Get it all now, don’t wait, and for the love of Louise don’t care about anyone else or the planet…We need to care, we need to change and if we don’t then it will be too late soon…a lot sooner than anyone thinks…
CAUSE & EFFECT !!
Humanity will get what it deserves if we don’t fix this problem…
Humans may indeed be destroying the planet, But I dont need to be hit over the head with that message when I go to the movies.
I had a nice long message about this but it took me to some page talking about enabling cookies, so I lost it and will not re-type it
In Brief. Humans are a plague, we control animal populations but no one controls ours. That’s the focus of the movie, not carbon dioxide emissions, etc.
Ah, to further what I said. Here’s a part of a Reeves interview with MTV.
While humanity still engages in a staggering number of international conflicts, the environmental message is one that, not only encompasses wars, and fights, and terrorism, but one that goes beyond constrictions to become a millennial message of “what we are doing and who we are as a species,” Reeves insisted. “We’re trying to reach beyond the idea of [just] environmentalism.”
Hey ROb
The same thing happen to me…
Mother Nature will shrug us off if we continue the way we are going…In fact depending on what you read … there are those in the scientific community who think we are long overdue for an asteroid impact… They have been proven to happen within frightening regularity throughout history and hey the dinosaurs were their most well known victims, the last ice age was probably caused by an asteroid as well…Check out a few books by Robert M. Schoch Ph.D.from Boston University..especially Voices Of the Rocks…circa 1999.
Every species will go extinct, every species’ time will end..Are we really so obtuse as to think we are different…I think more messages are needed in movies like this…I know Vic won’t want me using another thread for this type of debate but he has been a gentleman about it in the past so Vic, if you want me to stop say the word but if people keep posting responses then I am likely to respond as well…
Unless you say stop of course Vic
Cheers
Rob,
I’m hoping that you didn’t intend to suggest that someone needs to control our population - aside from individuals controlling themselves, that is.
So… we’re back to the previous solution.
Green, no worries dude, have at it - even if I think you’re wrong.
Once again I think you’ve got it backwards: the media is pounding the global warming message into us based on questionable science by scientists looking for big juicy research grants.
One volcano eruption puts out more atmosphere-unfriendly stuff than everything the U.S. pumps out of cars and factories in a year.
First Arafat gets a Nobel price, and now Gore. Guess THAT organization has jumped the shark…
Vic
jerseycajun,
Yes, we need to kill off half of our race…immediatetly.
No no, hahaha. We don’t have the right to eliminate our own ppl to control the population at some arbitrary number chosen by some tard. They predict earth’s population will peak at 9 billion or so on its own.
What’ im saying is, for some sickass reason, we think we can control other species’ population… but its hypocritical, because are the most damaging and irresponsible species on the planet and we are not controlled by some other superior species…except ze ALIENZZ! Which is what I think this movie is about. Humans are destroying the earth so humans must be destroyed…which is essentially the tagline for the film.
The point I was trying to make, is that the movie is about what I said above as opposed to pollution and green house gases, etc. It’s not specific to global warming as one damaging thing humans do, I think the movie is about humans being a plague to the planet in general for all the reasons (pollution, war, poverty, etc.)
Vic
I’m not talking about global warming…
Overpopulation
Pollution
Nuclear waste
Genocide
Mass extinctions of so many species
Destruction of the rain forests..
I could go on and on…
Agent Smith from The Matrix
“I’d like to share a revelation that I’ve had during my time here. It came to me when I tried to classify your species and I realized that you’re not actually mammals. Every mammal on this planet instinctively develops a natural equilibrium with the surrounding environment but you humans do not. You move to an area and you multiply and multiply until every natural resource is consumed and the only way you can survive is to spread to another area. There is another organism on this planet that follows the same pattern. Do you know what it is? A virus. Human beings are a disease, a cancer of this planet. You’re a plague and we are the cure. ”
Again we agree to disagree..
Cheers
A Virus also finally destroys its host and thus itself…Is that not what we are doing?
I read an article in 2006 that Hollywood was going to make a ton of Iraq war movies. Then I read an article earlier this year (or late 2007) that Hollywood was going to make a ton of global warming movies.
Guess we’ll have to wait and see what the next trend is.
heath
Hollywood does jump on a particular issues of the day and exploit them for profit…2012 anyone
We should be responsible, but in a non-hysterical way.
Vic
P.S. And Heath, we’ve all seen what awesome hits all those (anti)Iraq war movies have been at the box office, eh?
Yep, Vic. Yep.
“Humans are destroying the planet”
First off, on the face of it, that comment is absurd. The planet is fine, and Earth will outlast us unless we actually find a way to shatter the planet crust, mantle, and core. The environment we need to survive, however, could be a different story.
“One volcano eruption puts out more atmosphere-unfriendly stuff than everything the U.S. pumps out of cars and factories in a year.”
Perhaps so, but we are most definitely adding to that problem, resulting in a net increase of pollution entering our atmosphere. Those additional pollutants would not be there if not for us, and it may well be that we’ve pushed, or are pushing, things past the tipping point. After all, our species cuts down thousands of acres of trees, which help remove some of these greenhouse gases from the air, and we replace them with buildings which don’t. So we remove some of the filtering mechanisms, and we put out additional pollutants that wouldn’t be there if not for our activities. Even if the quantity’s we put out are smaller, it still adds up, and I’d say that puts the blame squarely on humanity’s shoulders.
As for the science, I’ll just say that evidence shows that Earth has gone through these warming and cooling cycles before. At most, humanity is accelerating the process this time around. In either case, we are having an effect.
“We don’t have the right to eliminate our own ppl to control the population at some arbitrary number chosen by some tard.”
Yeah, but if some intelligent species is going to exterminate our species, we’re the only intelligent species that would have the right. In either case, I’m actually cheering for that asteroid that’s inevitably coming our way.
Man, you can cut the misanthropy in here with a knife!
Yeesh.
personally I think the planet is tougher then anyone knows,
It has been around for Billions of years after all.
The next trend?
a slate of films suggesting
The Iraq war is responsible for the acceleration of global warming!
Wow, nice trailer! Really gave ma a sort of War of the Worlds vibe. This will be added to my list
greets
The inner message of the original film (which seems to be present in this version) is this: Do what we want you to do or you will be destroy.
It’s a radical message and smell something like the nazism/comunism/etc…
Sure Peace is a good word, but Freedom is a good one too. There’s peace in NorthCorea, but there’s no freedom there.
If we can’t be better freely, then maybe is better to be dead.
Here’s an important point for me.
Take a greet.
The worst part about Hollywood using the title is
It’s the discussing movies
On a side note the IPCC has said there has been no global warming for the last 11 years and have projected no warming for at least 10 years. I love how some people are claiming that proves we are suffering from global cooling at the same time as we are experiencing global warming.
Oops. Overwrote my text.
What I was saying is:
The worst part about Hollywood using the title is that when discussing classic scifi movies with people you will have to deal with their condescending glares when they think you are talking about a Keanu Reeves movie. Don’t get me wrong, he’s perfect for some roles, but I get tired of going “no, not the remake, the original one” during discussions with people who automatically hate the original because of how bad the remake was. Remakes shouldn’t have the power to tarnish the original, but unfortunately a lot of people can’t separate them.
Heath, you have uncovered the fact that we are being conditioned with film and media, nice work. That’s the real message that nobody gets here btw.
Greenknight, do you think in China their going Green to save the planet? Or recycling there plastic bags at the neiborhood Trader Joes?
They can barely get the air clean enough for the Olympics.
Are we doomed, probably,,, most likely…..yep.
China also has 2 BILLION people…That’s a lot of garbage no matter how you look at it…They are also Communist 790..I won’t get into that ideology..It works in principle but so does Christianity or religion in general and democracy. These things can all be distorted to meet an individual’s or organizations or governments agenda. I don’t think Earth will be destroyed…The planet will endure unless smoething catastrophic like a collision with an asteroid that knocks us out of orbit..but I digress..The Earth will endure just not with us as the dominant species or even still a species in existence.Life always finds a way but mauybe not humanity..ANd your arguement about being conditioned by film and media…If you liked 300..that film was probably funded in part by the US government as propaganda for the wars in the Middle East…My point is that just by reading the posts here on this thread we are being conditioned to someone else’s point of view..EVery interaction you have, Article read, movie watched, music listened to, tv show viewed, books that you read, they all program us to give us the opinions and beliefs we present to others in these debates.Once its in the subconscious it becomes part of who you are and part the of sum of the total experiences you have in your lifetime. That is the way it is so unless you are willing to totally unplug from the world and become a Buddhist monk isolated somewhere in the Himalayays you will be affected by life and how you experience society and how you percieve your place in it.
I agree with you that humanity is probably doomed or society as we know it is doomed..That won’t stop me from raising my children to appreciate all life and to respect that we are part of this giant ecosystem and how the things we do will affect that ecosystem and how in turn it can affect us too. Cause & Effect…
No, no no.
There’s no need for any population controls or “Hollywood-esque” asteroid attacks to level the population (Though, please do hit Hollywood if you’re listening, oh great asteroid!).
The answer is clearly space expansion. Some of us are just getting too big for our little pond and it has become time for someone (in this century or the next) to grow flippers and leave the comfy pool.
But in order to reach interstellar space, some of us need to have industry at their maximum, regardless of a relatively short (50-200 years ain’t much on the galactic scale) “global warming” period that - may or may not - occur. Interstellar space simply cannot be reached without using all of the best resources, and preferably those resources get used (responsibly, of course, but with haste) *before* the big meteorite collides.
Wall-E portrays such an expansion into space as humans(:all) leaving behind a trashy planet and living non-existent lives aboard a giant spaceship, but come on folks, really? I think some of us can do better than that.
Ed
LMAO at the asteroid pox on Hollywood…
I think there are almost unlimited resources from a materials point of view in the asteroid belt..Mineral resources aplenty..THey have found water and ice on one of Jupiter’s moons(Europa I think)and a water geiser on another although I can’t remeber the name..In fact since 2000 scientists have discovered a total of 45 new moons surrounding Jupiter and 63 in total..It’s safe to say that we have almost unlimited resources in our own backyard…I agree with you we can do better..Exploration not exploitation is the key with everybody having access to the same resources..I also think it’s safe to assume that if Jupiter wasn’t there we would be hit with a lot more asteroids…Shoemaker-Levy 9 anyone?
Okay, I just watched the trailer (slow connection):
I’m feeling another “lowest common denominator”, “convince the masses”, “pat yourself on the back if you’re a liberal”, destruction movie.
There’s the corny lines, the disturbed “girl who felt it was going to happen”, the planetary destruction worthy of adolescent liberal desires/imaginations, and the hokeyness of an alien race giving humanity a spanking because they’re too dirty. I thought Al Gore and the environmentalist movement was already doing that. Apparently they need extraterrestial help?
Then I have to single out the the Iraqi at 1:10 in the trailer because Hollywood likes to single them out. The good Iraqi. Every TV Show and Movie has to have one. Just one. And he must be good. Because… well… He’s an Iraqi — except he’s good. And he must show no showings of religion, unless it’s to squash Christianity, because let’s face it, its fun and easy. But otherwise, he’s the smart, straight, darwinist Iraqi-man who leans far on the side of spirituality rather than big-religion.
And now, just for fun, count with your fingers how many planets there are in this one galaxy.
http://imgsrc.hubblesite.org/hu/db/2007/19/images/a/formats/print.jpg
How many do you suppose are like Earth? How many do you suppose are *better* than Earth? Yet, the aliens decide to pick Earth for incineration and preaching? *tsk *tsk , someone feel guilty for me, because I’m not feeling it.
/Rant
Although SL-9 was a comet not an asteroid
I’ve met a lot of Iraqis and they are a very down to earth people..at least they were before we invaded…
“Once again I think you’ve got it backwards: the media is pounding the global warming message into us based on questionable science by scientists looking for big juicy research grants.”
Dead on Vic, points for you. This is what we learned about in Enviro Economics.
You guys seen ‘An Inconvenient Truth’. I’ve never seen such lies elsewhere…and to get a Nobel prize for That BS…I guess they’re given out for media presence rather than actual accomplishments.
Ok, dude… you JUST jumped the Shark. Are you kidding me? So the original author of “300″ in comic book form was in league with the government?
I thought we only had one conspiracy theorist here on the site.
Vic
With the ‘Gortflash’ at the end I wonder if they’re in any way keeping the idea of the self-imposed interplanetary robot cops?
Ed - hang on, we know that guy’s an Iraqi how exactly?
greenknight - with you (largely) up until the 300 comment. Ancient Greece and Persia are not directly analogous to what’s happening in the Middle East now, and Sparta definitely isn’t. Nor is Frank Miller a g-man, so far as I’m aware.
RandomHerm - the message of the original was “Don’t play with nukes”, which seems reasonably sensible to me.
jerseycajun - I was looking for words to describe Keanu’s default setting, and “dull ambivalence” sums it up brilliantly. Nice one!
Q : “Are you numb?”
A : “My brain is…”
Q : “Will this be another excellent adventure?”
A : “Ask Bill…”
Hello.
The Big Dentist, “Don’t play with nukes” seems reasonably sensible to me too. But if Klaatu put a destroyer robot to obligate me to stop all belligerence acts in my planet, then Klaatu treads upon my will and it seems reasonable fascist to me. ; )
So the inner message is: Do what we want you to do or you will be destroyed by us.
···
By the way, I hope “inner message” (and other texts) means what I think -I’m afraid that I am not such a good english writer, ^^-.
And… let me try a joke…
Look: Put some frames of Keanu Reeve’s face between some frames of a horrible monster and you’ll see Keanu playing ‘fear’. Put the same frames of Keanu Reeve’s face between some frames of a naked woman and you’ll see Keanu playing ‘desire’. Hi, hi… ^^ It’s only an innocent joke.
Greets for Keanu and for all of you. : )
Vic
If I can find the article where I read that about the government partly funding 300 I will post the link…I read it when I lived overseas and I just can’t remember where. I think it was a report from a newspaper in Dubai…Anyway when I find it again I will post it…Geez you guys act like this stuff is made up…
Vic..thanks for the jump the shark comment…I guess I’m a TV show.
.And no the original writer of 300 comic book was not in league with the US government. The article was in regards to how the Persians(Iranians) were made out to be incompetent and less than noble in the movie and how a few “western warriors” killed many thousands of Persians..I think Frank Miller wrote a testosterone laced westernized version of the events in the Battle of Thermopylae.Sounds like perfect propaganda to me even if that was not Miller’s intention. The article stated that the US government had partially funded the movie as propaganda against Iran and it’s “quest” for nuclear technology or to stir the pot so-to-speak.Alan Moore had some interesting thoughts on Miller’s 300 but you probably think he is crazy or jumped the shark too..
Cheers Vic
RH, you’ve got a point there, but those robots had been built to police every sentient race, even Klaatu’s own. In a way he was saying “Look, here’s what happens if you cross this line. We built the damn things and not even we know how to shut them off.” So I suppose it’s a totalitarian streak with a bit of masochism thrown in. And that’s a great story idea of yours: an actor so bad the studio has to plant subliminals in all his movies to convince everyone he can act. I’m making that Keanu flipbook right now…
greenknight, Alan Moore is indeed mad as a box of frogs, but I’d definitely like to hear what he made of 300.
Vaguely connected remake notion: Zero Population Growth. Just keep the Sci-Fi channel away from it.
Just because something was not intended to be propaganda does not mean it can’t end up being used and distorted for that purpose…I don’t think my statement was all that “sharkish” considering how things are going in Iraq and how low troop morale is..Every little bit helps I guess. The US Military influences Hollywood’s depiction of the military all the time by allowing use of technologies & access to information on how the military technology and weapons work as long as the military are portrayed in a positive light…That certainly sounds like propaganda and a military agenda to me which I will term propagenda…
Greenknight333, (love your work)
An Inconvienant Alien Invasion, just in time for Christmas, yeah!!
(Gonna laugh if Keanu lands on Dec 21st). That’s a 2012 inside joke btw.
Films and media (CNN) are conditioning for the masses. The masses awarded Gore all kinds of award$ for that “documentary”.
You didn’t see “Who Killed the Electric Car” win an Oscar.
Movements happen behind the scenes. Hollywood does play a big role in the Great Deception.
(Case in point this “day the earth stood still” remake).
I did hear alot of connections about 300 and Iran. If you remember Iran protested the film and it was banned in alot of Mid-east countries.
(Miller just makes the film, but remember a studio run by prob 25 people approved it).
GreenKnight my point about China is that if humans are responsable for global warming how can we stop other countries from mass pollution and Ozone depleation. (We can’t.) Why isn’t Gore using his connections to stop other countries from polluting. Hell everyones looking the other way at China just so the Olympic cash machine keeps rolling along, its all BS.
(Anyone remember a few months ago when Speilberg dropped out of the Olympic Production because of what he believed was a hypocratic double standard.).
Global Warming is the great lie that’s been “created” to cover up the fact that the Sun is going thru an unprecidented solar cycle. They can’t stop the damage so certain groups have decided to exploit it for profit.
(Gore knows this and he was a Microt from becoming president). Gore is a Globalist.
Conspiracy NO, do the homework and you will see the truth hidden behind the lies.
People really need to start questioning whay they believe to be the truth.
Or were just gonna be led astray.
Jump that shark!
I love it.
Don’t get me wrong Greenknight333 I agree with alot of what your saying.
The benefit of the doubt is always given to the non-U.S. side of a situation, and frankly, that annoys the hell out of me. And no, that’s not directed at you specifically - I mean in general in politics and the media.
Best,
Vic
Well then I guess it all comes back to propaganda then Vic…whether that be US sponsored or overseas sponsored. I don’t understand the Dubai comment as they are know to be the true moderates in the Middle East and it is considered to be the crossroads of the world linking Asia with the rest of the Western World. I’ll read both views rather than follow any one side and form my own opinions instead of believing just the US spin on things. ANd I am not saying that is what you are doing I am just stating that is what I prefer not to d
Cheers
Hello.
The Big Dentist, I’m afraid that Klaatu suppose us to accept the slavery precisely because he accepted it before, and that’s a problem. Maybe a good question for this case is: do we really need a totalitarism to save ourselves from ourselves? Well… that’s what V.I.K.I thinks in the recommendable Alex Proya’s “I, Robot”. I, of course, disagree.
And about the joke… well, maybe I should change ‘frames’ and write ‘plane’. I wanted to say that Keanu plays all roles with the same face. Ask him to play fear and he will put a face, ask him to play desire and he will put exactly the same face. He, he, he… But I don’t want to be bad, I don’t hate him, it was only a joke without malice. ^^
Take a greet. : )
By the way, here’s a link about Frank Miller’s “Holy Terror, Batman!” (Comicon 2006) that maybe interests some of you: http://comics.ign.com/articles/688/688140p1.html
Greets.
GreenKnight, when is a movie like 300
JUST a movie ?
Dont believe everything you read .
on the other hand, if you had a quote from a NAMED government official in an american newspaper that can back up their claims with credible sources that are willing to go on the record then I would be very intersted to see that evidence .
nowhereman, what you said was pretty funny, we need more of that here.
This has turned into politicalrant as opposed to screenrant. Too much to read it all
yo Gary, whatchu talkin bout willis?!
300 is a graphic novel, which was turned to a film as well.
The idea of the graphic novel (and film) was to show intense ass-kicking action from the greatest warriors of Human’s history, the spartans and make into a form of entertainment.
Thing is, what else went on in the that time period aint that appealing (pedophiles, the spartan man having male partners). That type of movie wouldn’t sell, I assure you. It also sure as hell wouldn’t be fun to watch, like 300 is.
I’m pretty sure that Frank Miller wasn’t thinking political lines or about Iran, or going against Iran when making a comic book… and by pretty sure, i mean 100% positive.
caaaaaaaase closed.
Let’s talk about something more happy…like the Saw films, I just saw 3 and 4…apparently they’re filming 5 and 6 as we speak. Anyone a fan of those? Nothing like a little gruesome torture to change topics eh?
Gary I’d liked to have those credentials in 90% of what gets passed off as credible news these days…There is no more credible news or sources or people willing to go on the record to back up a news story…at least not here..Most everything is an unnamed source and just commentary or wide speculation..Like I said when I find the article I will post the link…It’s not an American newspaper so I guess in your shallow view of things then that the only way it is credible news is if it appears in an AMerican newspaper…Get off your high horse dude..There are credible sources of news in other places besides American papers…
greenknight, my point was that if the source is a newspaper from Dubai they could very well be speaking from a bias of their own. when a Dubai newspaper is
talking about our country spreading propganda about the middle east through a major hollywood release that is a serious charge , and if a foreign news source is going to make this allegation then yes, I do expect them to back it up with more then just the charge itself.
and When I said I would believe it if it came from an american newspaper,
I was thinking about the last time a major newspaper had all their facts backed up by credible sources who were willing to go on the record about a major scandal that involved our government .
It practically forced the resignation of a president . So there are precedents in our journalistic history for these type of investigations
when they are warranted .
and do you really believe an american newspaper would ignore a story like this if it had credibility during this election year?
offically , this is a thread about the release of a trailer.
while i havent seen the trailer I have stated i wont be seeing the film
so having expressed my position on the thread topic I am out of here .
Enjoy all .
no offense was intended by any of my comments .
peace.
I reposted My original reply with corrections .
It was the least I could do !
Sorry about that !
Rob,I didnt see your reply until after i reposted mine.
So let me clarify ,
I NEVER thought 300 was anything more hen entertainment .
I was just telling Greenknight that if
a credible american news source followed up on the Dubai article that suggested 300 was american propoganda that i would be interested in reading that followup .
I was trying to Give greenknight an even handed reply.
I didnt mean to Imply that I agreed that 300 was propoganda .
300 is a kick ass action movie.
Case closed.
No offense Gary but when I hear the words “do you really believe an american newspaper would ignore a story like this during an election year?” I know I’m talking to a person that accepts the Media as the uncorrupt truth.
Its all spin Gary, but you can’t tell because you buy into it so much, you feel grounded by it.
CNN stands for the truth. Right….?
Well as you get older and things unfold in the world try to look past the curtain of the show that is the media.
Tv, print and radio.
There’s alot your missing.
Greenknight don’t ever change Bro!
Vic
Yeah I totally got that, my point is that (this 300 movie) story DID make news.
I remember hearing about it the week before and after its sucessfull BO weekend.
“It came and went like all news stories do.”
The left wing liberals didn’t touch it or exploit it at all..?
Why Gary ? Why didn’t they use that?
Google search:
300 movie, Iran connection, LA Times
Or enter one of 290 other newspapers in the world. The story is there to read.
This works better.
(Google):
” 300 movie, Iran boycott film, LA Times “.
You’ll get a bunch of info.
I am being Misinterpreted here .
Vic got my point .
“it came and went like all news stories do”
Who is that quote attributed to?
Yeah that would be me Gary. What’s your position on this maybe I’m confused…
you had it in quotes 790,
I thought you were citing a source .
I alluded to watergate before because i was making the point that when the press smells a real scandal They pursue it even if brings down our current leaders. and in an election year if they thought bush was pushing anti IRaqi or anti Iranian sentiment by using a bockbuster film as a propaganda tool that would be front page news TODAY! as far as my trusting the American media goes ,
I trust them to chase down a story when they smell blood in the water .
if they thought the story was true,
they would be trying to to link Bush to it on a daily basis and talk about the taint the story would bring to mccains campaign .
some might might even try to suggest Mccains involvement .
But really It doesnt matter who the man in the white house is there is always going to be somebody in the media who wants to bring him down . especially when we are 5 months away from choosing our next president .
The press couldnt afford to sit on this now
trust the media ?
Hardly, .they are wolves .
predators.
If they believe the story is credible
Why are they not trying to destroy Bush And the republicans with this?
That was my point and i cant make it any clearer then that
Well Gary the media isn’t trying to destroy Bush because they want to keep their jobs.
I just read an article the other week about how ALL the Washington DC news reporters are fed their info by so called government sources.
It was interesting to note that if reporters stepped out of line and reported something other than what they were TOLD TO, they are themselves replaced and find out there covering the PTA meetings in Harlem next week.
Wolves and predators (gotta be kidding me), their docile sheep that do what their told. And they the heads of these News Companies don’t ever complain. Why because there all corrupt and tow the Neo-Con line. Fear keeps them inline fear of FCC suspensions and fines.
Bush has broken more laws then Nixon why do you think he’s still in power? The media has plenty to work with. Hell I think one state is stll activly trying to impeach him.
I Don’t hear the wolves howlin on that? Why because the media is CONTROLLED.
Wow, 790. While I agree the media are docile sheep, I think you have the wrong master leading the flock. Dems control most of what the (national) media “report”, not republicans.
There’s NO difference in Dems or Repubs. Same lower management company.
Why do you think independant canadates are allways forced out of elections.
And then one of the Dems or Repubs wins and nothing changes.
Its all a show.
Clearly I’m talking about another level here. That most think of as conspriacy….
Its a pretty good production their running so its hard for most people to accept what I’m saying.
Geez Louise I am sorry I brought up the 300 comment but 790 thanks for the support and I know it was in print..Like I stated above nothing once it is placed in print can be enbiased or not considered to be rhetoric.
unbiased I meant
Where is GORT!?!?
Taking a break from redesigning the Armor…
THIS ‘Dog’ just won’t hunt. Seems like a huge waste and a ‘miss’ for me.
“The Orig was done. It was better. That’s the way Dad did it. That’s the way America watched it. And its worked pretty well so far.”
This does nothing but steals from the orig… poorly.
Sometimes the ‘Wheel’ doesn’t have to be reinvented…
Back to the Drawing Board! - Stark
unfortunately Braveheart GORT isnt here because The Day The Earth stood still trailer thread has become a political thread.
Yeah Gary you had nothing to do with that right.
I’ve read that Gort is in the film but he’s radically changed from the original version.
Yup!
In this incarnation, the role of GORT will be played by…(Take it, Dan Akroyd)
“It’s…The Stay Puff Marshmellow Man!”
With all due respect to the input on this thread & sorry to make light of this one - but I just can’t get all worked up over the retooling of a cinema classic. I’m sure the all important marketing eye candy will be really cool, but I’m afraid this flick has “DUD” written across its fore head in big red letters. Today’s writers for the most part couldn’t come up witth an original scenario if it swam up and bit em’ on the @$$.
I’ve thoroughly enjoyed reading this thread for the very reason that I come to read screenrant. I may not always agree with the content, but its truly refreshing to read intelligent, well thought out threads like this one! As a fellow sci-fi nut, I admire all those who express themselves here.
Keep the faith,
M.W.L.
Nowhereman,
did you get your screenname from that great UPN series from a few years back ?
I LOVED that show!
Right on Nowhereman, and that was a great show.
Hey there’s more info on Gort on the previous thread Vic has posted up in the related links at the the top.
Totem is the new Gort. And it walks like a dog. ?
I bestow a sarcastic yeah of lameness.
Nowhereman,
Did you mean Don Pardo (announcer for SNL)?
790,
{{Why do you think independant canadates are allways forced out of elections.}}
Umm, because they inspire only pinheads and can’t amass popular support–in other words, vote?
Ooooooooooooooo. It burns. It burns.
Gary - Nope! Its the title of a sci-fi novel I wrote in 2004 (as yet unpublished…jeeze!) lol
jc in Chi-town - Nope! I was referring to the penultimate rooftop scene in ghostbusters, but I too thought that the series was tre cool!
790 - use aloe vera on that…
Party on ya’ll,
M.W.L.
nowhereman as a fellow aspiring writer
I wish you luck on that novel!
Hopefully, I will buy it in a store someday!
Remakes suck.
Some a-holes were probably reading the idiots at IMDB saying that this should be remade.
Stupid. You can’t top the original. The acting is what made that movie great. CG and hotty chick wont help it.
I think what happened was the studio was looking for a remake film they could use to exploit the green adgenda.
Whatta thread!
Vics gonna kill me tomarrow. Lol.
SO is it
NOWHERE MAN or NOW HERE MAN !!
CHeers
Vic
Thats a relief Vic.
If it aint broke dont fix it.
Gort “is” The Day The Earth Stood Still!
One of the most iconic images in sci-fi history…I know the new film already has a large emotionaly blank shuffling monstrosity…but that’s what you get with Keanue Reeves in you r movie!
I for one want to see the classic look Gort kept and improved but not messed up.
I agree with that, BRAVEHEART; Gort is one of the most iconic ‘andros-robot’ (and image) in the sci-fi history -http://www.libertyfilmfestival.com/libertas/wp-content/uploads/2008/07/stillrobot.jpg-.
Go-Go-Go! ^^
The Big Dentist, I don’t know if you keep being here, but I want to say you something I forgot before: is “a great story idea of yours: an actor so bad the studio has to plant subliminals in all his movies to convince everyone he can act “. He, he, he… I was concentrated in my limits using english language, so I ignored your thought. Good unconscious curious complementation. ^^ + ; ) He, he…
nowhereman, fortune (and spirit) for your novel -I want to, too, for mine; so fortune (and spirit) for all of we in what we wish. ^^
···
Finally (or almost), I want to express here my happiness to see you doing a political discussion freed from those usual hates we find in a lot of forums -sure that what unite us is stronger than what divide us-. Believe me if I say that you seem to me almost like a ‘non evil touched’ -even ‘innocent’ from my point of view- (or something similar). Thanks a lot to be there. …
And Post Data: Please, excuse my writing forms (if it’s needed); I don’t know if I sound like ‘Tarzan’ or like a ’snob’ -ha, ha, ha, ha, ha…-. Seriously, english language is not my natural one, so I have no idea how I sound. ^^.
Take a greet (and a hug) for all of you.
Thanks. : D
.
The Day The Earth Stood Still & War Of The Worlds are my two favourite movies like this, very scary as a kid to watch. But War of the Worlds the re-make was nothing like the old one and was not as good.I hope T.D.T.E.S.S is not going down that remake route.
Tom Cruise/Keanue Reeves….scary ain’t it!
For shame Vic, after being growled and barked at, to let this dog back into your house the “Box” network could never have as good a neighbor as you!
Sort of makes me look forward to July 2009 when this meltdown of a movie will be a long long forgotten memory and we’ll be talking about something more enjoyable like “Thor”, “Battle Angel”, “Transformers 2″, or “Rendezvous With Rama.”
For those interested in world outlooks check out Jerrod Diamonds “Collapse” or J. Robert Hunters’ “Simple Things Won’t Save the Earth.” By the Way Diamonds’ book has a big picture where it shows China is importing massive amounts of first world electronic garbage! Kinda gives you pause.

RandomHerm..Thanks for the link above. It certainly lends credence to the arguement above about comics being used as propaganda…If you consider what was going on at the time Miller wrote the 300 with the US embassy in Lebanon and the plane hijackings in the Middle East with hostages being executed, and The Iranian hostage affair in the late 70’s ealy 80’s..it is easy to see why Miller would write the 300 in such a way…considering the link he obviously likes propaganda
Cheers
I was pretty excited about the remaking of the beloved SciFi classic TDTESS. And then I saw the trailer. The fastest way to take the fun out of a movie is to politicize it. It’s so obvious. I’m surprised they didn’t cast Al Gore as Kaatu. How boring!
Hello.
greenknight333, let me tell you, first of all, that what I’m going to say will, probabily, don’t glad you. : /
Look, sure that you don’t need me to compose a list of the ‘anti-conservative’ hollywood’s propaganda; what you surely need for that is just miles and miles of paper and a lot of pencils -he, he, he…-. ^^
Frank Miller is honest when he says what he says in his interviews; no ambiguous manners and not hidden meaning, no rep. gouvernement hand needed because he is free to does what he does. And it, greenknight333, should be as obvious as the fact that says that the ‘rightys’ are not the enemy.
So the true question here, greenknight333, is not one about rep. conspiracy, is just only one about our agreed or our disagreed with Miller.
Anyway (and/or by the way), Frank rejected your conspiranoid position in a filmed interview when “300″ was shown at theaters.
Sorry if my answer dissapoints you; I tried to be prudent with those discussion -”propaganda” is not the only one relevant though you can take from that link, ; )-.
Take a greet. : )
If that’s all you got RandomHerm then I still I thank you for the link..I never stated Miller made the graphic novel as propaganda..I stated the movie was partially funded by the government and used as propaganda..with or without Miller’s awareness…That’s all …IN the link he stated that why not use heroes for propagendas…
Cheers
O.K, greenknight333.
But if someone of you still wanting to find the Lord Sith in the White House stop doing. I know where he is; come to Spain, he is in the person of Mr. Zapatero. Ha, ha, ha, ha, ha!!! ^^ It’s a joke. ; )
Take a greet. : )
Oh geez, what a huge surprise. Hollywood shoving their superior elitist political views down our throats. I loved it when George Clooney publically stated his opinion about how he feels celebrities are “ahead of the curve” on social and political issues. How he and other big stars are somehow superior to us “normal” people when it comes to politics. And how the crowd (that were full of other celebrities) started applauding him.
What I loved even more was the South Park episode that mocked the hell out of that, lol.
At first I thought this was a cool trailer esspecially since I’m a fan of Sci-Fi. But now I see that this is another radical Enviornmentalism movie.
KILL OF THE HUMAN RACE TO SAVE THE EARTH? You know that someone there’s some real nut who’s going to be taking that seriously.
I am sick of being preached at by these Hollywood Hippies who are also Hypocrites! You think they live GREEN in their giant mansions? Private Jets? Going to Hollywood Parties? Then they expect us to ride a bike to work and stop breeding?
My worst fear is that we are entering an Era of “Green Fascism” where if you’re not with the program you will be punished.
“We need to start treating those who do not agree with Global Warming as Traitors! And they should be charged with treason!” -RFK Jr. January 21 2008.
“There is no debate, the debate is over, anybody who does not acknowledge Global Warming is on the same scale as Holocaust Deniers and should be treated as such” -Al Gore 2006.
The debate is NOT OVER.

When you make Humans the enemy, the solution is to kill ourselves as this movie the “Day the Earth Stood Still” suggests? So the Human Race should commit self suicide?
Radical enviornmentalism scares me more than the Earth’s temparature going up a WHOLE DEGREE!!!
The Earth has hot and cold cycles, is man responsible for the Ice Age ending? Before you panic find out more facts.
Especially when you consider the evidence that supports the idea that global warming is not really related to our activity here at all:
