After a decade of waiting, we finally got to see the first ever official trailer for Boondock Saints 2: All Saints Day last month. For fans, this was an epic and exciting moment to say the least, pushed further by the fact that nearly the entire cast – even secondary characters – return for the sequel (minus Willem Dafoe). Today, we have the second full trailer which was just released.
Starring in All Saints Day are none other than Sean Patrick Flanery and Norman Reedus as the infamous MacManus brothers alongside their father, played by Billy Connolly as “Il Duce” the legendary killer who lives by one rule – no women or children.

Also joining the roster this time around are Julie Benz as FBI agent Eunice Bloom in a role similar to that of Willem Dafoe’s character from the first film. Other major additions to the cast include Judd Nelson, Peter Fonda and Clifton Collins Jr. Clifton joins the brothers on their quest of vengeance against evil.
That’s not all though, if you’re Boondock Saints diehard, you’ll be happy to hear that the characters of Detective Duffy (David Ferry), Detective Dolly (Brian Mahoney) and Detective “get me my bagel” Greenly (Bob Marley) are also back for the sequel. Hell, even the Irish Gun Dealer is back for the sequel paying tribute to the details of the first flick.

If you saw the first trailer from last month, there really isn’t that much different. There a few action shots that are new but nothing significant in terms of plot or characters – it even plays the same song, “The Saints Are Coming” by The Skids, made popular again in 2006 from the famous U2/Green Day cover that they played live for the NFL’s New Orleans Saints return home after the events of Hurricane Katrina.

What happened to Flannery’s face?
My thoughts exactly, Flannery looks completely different now! More like David Duchovny!
Why am I seeing Rocco in the preiview? Are there going to be original or new flashback scenes?
I agree on Flannery. I’m hoping that the movie won’t be cut as choppy as the trailer so a better, slower look can be gleamed.
I am finding Julie Benz’s role a little far fetched. But am willing to give her the benefit of the doubt and go in with an open mind.
Flannery & Reedus are 44 & 40 now respectively so they look a bit older as you can imagine.
As for Rocco, this film does feature flashback scenes that include him.

This trailer, for some reason, got me way more excited than the first trailer.
Must have some Rocco scenes! He was fricken hilarious.
And we all know the sequel won’t be as good as the original but at least we get another Boondock Saints movie.
It’s like Green Street Hooligans. If there would ever be a sequel it probably wouldn’t come close to the original but I would still like to see it.
Well, I know I am going to get heckled for this one, but I DETESTED the first movie! It was so over the top with horrible acting, atrocious dialogue, unbelievable story-line (or at the very least just horrible shoot-em-up scenes!) This movie actually made me angry when I saw it. Dafoe’s performance was entertaining, but ridiculous to the plot, but it was the ONLY redeeming quality of this movie.
If I am talking movies with someone this is my litmus test on whether or not they are worth even having a discussion about movies in general. If they liked or, god-forbid, LOVED it, then they are just not credible in book.
I usually will dislike a movie and move on without getting so worked up, but come on, it was probably one of the worst movies I have ever seen even worse than Twilight and that’s saying something…
That being said the second movie’s trailer made me vomit in my mouth a little, but I guess I was just being masochistic by watching it.

While the film is not without its redeeming qualities, like the scene with Dafoe in the confessional, the first movie as a whole was just poorly written, and worse, poorly directed.
But I think the worst thing about it was the fact that is just ripped off so many better movies. For instance, the “no women, no children” rule is taken verbatim from Leon: The Professional, as is the silent killer with round, rose-tinted glasses, and the brilliant but quirky FBI agent who listens to classical music while investigating a crime scene, AND a scene where our hero hangs upside down from the ceiling whilst firing his guns. Then of course there’s the whole say a prayer for your victim thing, which was done before by Pulp Fiction.
9 times out of 10, if I’m in a conversation with someone who loves this movie, they’ll have never even heard of The Professional, much less seen it, and because of that I can kind of understand where the love for this movie comes. But for me, since The Professional is one of my favorite movies of all time, I was immediately taken out of the movie every time Duffy ripped it off.

I agree that it is somewhat of a waste to come here and tell us how much you disliked the movie. and to say that if someone likes the movie then they have no taste is just an ignorant thing to say. get a life.

As far as coming here to see the trailer, it was pure curiosity. I thought there may be some redeeming qualities to the second movie. I watched the trailer for the second Twilight movie and thought it looked quite a bit better than the first. This one not so much. One would think that maybe after all these years and with more experience, this one might be better. It really looks like more of the first.
Now what I said about discrediting people’s opinion if they liked this movie was more tongue-in-cheek. But it is fun to debate the atrocities of Boondock Saints.
So, yes, I detest this movie, but I didn’t think I was “spreading my hate around.” I do discuss the merits of movies that I like and dislike on this forum. I am allowed to express my opinions, yes? Or must I not say anything because I don’t like it?

I really liked the first Boondock Saints. But I shouldn’t be discussing that with you, or anything else film related, because I’m not worthy of your time.

That’s a terrible generalization to make – and folks, I don’t want this to devolve into a nasty fight. People seem to be passionate about this movie on both sides, but cool your jets when talking about it. I don’t want any insults flying around here.

I detested “The Dark Knight.” I can’t stand it except for a few redeeming qualities, but I welcome a conversation with people who did like it, incase they point out something I didn’t take notice of in my viewings.
To completely disregard a person based on a contrary movie opinion makes your arguments for your case weak. You miss out on healthy debates and to express your loathing or likness of a movie.
Nobody is expected to like every movie, but to blindly ignore a person based solely on a movie preference shows more poorly on you and your argument.

Ok, so I apologize for being SO offensive in my first post. Although it came across as such, it was not meant to be such a personal criticism. This is one of those movies that does get me heated and since I am fairly new to this site, I don’t want to come across as a Troll.
I do really dislike the movie but I really wanted an interesting debate, not so much with the mudslinging. I want to keep posting on this site and I don’t want anyone to associate me with just trying to make people angry. So once again I apologize for making it sound so personal. It really was meant to be tongue-in-cheek and in person, it may have been funny but I guess not on the screen.

Luke, I think that your source might have been confusing the original Luke Skywalker with Flanery. But a car crash chased with plastic surgery would definetly alter someones appearance. So do stereroids. As far as Im concerned, the original left me wanting more, and now weve got it. But these boys are getting old, and Im just glad their dad’s still around to kick some ass in the sequel. Its too bad Dafoe isn’t back though. His character disturbed me to my groin the first time I watched this film, but now (being abit older) when I watch his character I think he added a kind of reality check to the whole situation. Cops are still human, gay or straight, and regular citizens aren’t the only ones who sometimes think that a little bit of vigilantisism is needed. I for one am gonna miss his character in the sequel.
SPF is not “old”. He’s in the same age range as Johnny Depp and Brad Pitt. Of course, unless you’re dead, ALL of us are getting older.
When I saw that SPF didn’t look like himself in the new BS trailer, I checked Google Images and found pics from a Playgirl spread he did in ‘06. He still looked hot (as usual), resembled himself, and appeared to be aging well (not hyperaged like he does in the BS trailer).
Since SPF is a martial arts expert and is known to take good care of his health, I can only conclude that the drastic, negative change in his appearance is due to bad, unnecessary plastic surgery.
I wish the Mcmanus brothers could put a “hit” on whoever defaced SPF. Unfortunately, SPF’s negative appearance change is turning into a major distraction from what may otherwise be a decent sequel for BS.
I would love to see this movie, but after checking the theater listings at the official site, it seems anyone living in the southern or mid-west states are just going to have to wait for a DVD release, making this limited release a moot point for the other 80% of Americans who won’t be able to see the film.
