apocaplypse First Teaser Trailer For 2012MovieFone has premiered the trailer for Roland Emmerich’s next big all-style-and-no-substance popcorn movie: 2012. They have high res and HD versions over on their site, but we have a smaller one for you right here.

As usual, Emmerich looks like he’s putting out another movie that has special effects that will be a CGI visual feast, but (and yes, I know it’s to early to tell) I’m betting it’s another “check your brain at the door” movie.

It’s actually pretty funny – if he keeps going down this disaster movie road, maybe he’ll earn the title of “Irwin Allen of our time.” And in keeping with the Irwin Allen theme, 2012 boasts a cast of well known actors including Danny Glover, Thandie Newton, Oliver Platt, John Cusack and Chiwetel Ejiofor.

Anyway, you can judge for yourself what kind of movie this looks like it’s going to be by checking out the teaser trailer:

My first thought after watching that was that God said that he wouldn’t ever flood the world again. icon cool First Teaser Trailer For 2012

So what do you think?

2012 arrives in theaters July 10, 2009 November 13, 2009 (in plenty of time before the end of the world).

  1. Need to see the Seaview come cresting over, with the water. :-D

  2. My first thought was “what the hell?” Looks like it has potential to be like The Day After Tomorrow, although I doubt they would make that mistake. I’m gonna reserve judgment on this for the time being.

  3. I thought it was funny how the monk hit the bell one more time as the place was falling apart. gotta admire that kinda dedication.

  4. My thoughts on this?

Another stupid disaster movie. I’ll avoid it when it comes to theaters but will download it just to satisfy my curiosity (i refuse to pay for this even if it’s rented).

  5. I can’t help it, I’m actually a sucker for disaster movies.

  6. probably will not see this in cinema, but I surely want to see it once in time

  7. In regards to the original poster I.e., “no flood” (Genesis 9:10-11). It’s not flood … it’s a Tsunami. Watch the Canary Islands. This looks like a GREAT flick for the cause! :)

  8. Does anyone else get the feeling that instead of this movie simply taking the 2012 concept and running with it, Emmerich actually believes that the world would end in 2012 and wants to preach about it?

At first I thought he was just making a popcorn movie and figured 2012 would be a good enough concept to allow him to put loads of CGI destruction on screen (because he hasn’t already shown us enough of that… I mean did you see all the destruction in ‘The Patriot’?).

But that whole “Find out the Truth: Google 2012″ He does know that if you Google 2012, you get one page about the movie, one about the London Olympics and the rest are pages from people who actually believe the world is going to end in 2012 because the Mayans ran out of space on their fecking calander.

    Spread the ignorance Roland. :|

  9. @Paula – well, that looked like the Himalayas to me… that’s one HELL of a tsunami. 8-)

@joshi – Nah, he’s just trying to pump up the movie and get people thinking about it to make ‘em go see it.

  10. I suppose yeah, but still, it’ll end with people (easily fooled people) reading up on the “end of the world” stuff and believing it, adding more fuel to the fire.

Meh. Harmless in the end when the world doesn’t end, but still irritating now.

  11. Funny that you would have to take all the water from the other side of the world to make a tsunami that high since the himalayas are around 180000 feet tall. I’m pretty sure the highest ever recorded is like 60ft.

  12. @Lou

    They can be enormous:

“The vertical height reached by a tsunami onshore above sea level is called a run-up height. In extreme cases, the water level can rise to more than 50 feet (15 meters) above sea level for tsunamis of distant origin, and over 100 feet (30 meters) for tsunamis generated nearby.”

  13. Oh… I’m alone. And I need your attention, the attention of the entire world. I want to be your false messiah because I feel bad because I spent my life with drugs and alienate’s ways of life and I want to keep my vanity alive. I want to feel better -superior- than the rest, in order to give forces to my dark’s desires (so I need you to be stupid apes for me).
Morpheo and the Oracle told me that I could be more important than anyone of you if I only turn my powers in order to destroy our world. So I went terrorist and I smiled to all those people who are celebrating now the end of the Gemini’s capitalism in order to create a totalitarian communism. I am ruled by the Sith’s code 66 but I don’t realize it because i’m a clone created by Mass-Media -¿uhhhmg?-.
Change. All of you. Change to be what I desire you to be, for what I desire for the damnable ego of mine.
All ‘heil’ the destruction of our world, all ‘heil’ the beginning of the neocomunism…

    (to be continued)

  14. @ Vic :)

You’re tellin’ me that’s one HUGE tsunami! Man – oh – man … if I saw something like that comin’ at me … I’d probably have a heart attack! The guy’s a genius with this trailer. ;)

  15. Oh …. one more thing … regarding the Canary Islands … recently, the histroy channel did a documentary (on end times) anyways, they discussed “the canary islands”, they said “when” (not if) but when either the underwater island breaks off or this island splits (volcanic activity that has the geologists very worried and they’ve been watchin’ it like a hawk for years) it will create a tsunami higher than a mile which will affect the entire eastern seaboard of the US. And, on top of it … it won’t be just 1 big wave hittin’ the land. According to them, the US should have an 8-hr window to evacuate “inland”. I LOVE end times. :)

  16. Oh … “the wall of water” is Rev. 8:8. Check this out: In 1949, during an eruption, (a volcano called “La Cumbre Vieja” on La Palma Island in the Canary Islands), an immense flank of the volcano began to slide into the sea/ocean. Now, over 50 years later, it’s still sliding towards the ocean. Point being: One day there will be another eruption and when that eruption happens, that “flank” is going to collapse and create a tsunami that will be unlike anything the world has seen or experienced and affect the entire eastern US.

End Time Bible Prophecy is amazing. It dosen’t “predict” the exact moment, i.e., it’s not “written” the end is 2012, alas what IS written in the bible are “the signs” when the end is near.

  17. Nice cast. Is this more of a disaster movie or a post-apocalyptic thing? If it’s disaster, I won’t be interested much. If it deals with the aftermath I would have a lot more excitement for this.

But then, we’ve got “The Road” coming out for that don’t we.

  18. I’m lookin’ forward to this flick … if I’m here that is …. hee hee hee :)

  19. I will go and see this movie but I don’t like the director all that much.

  20. When I googled 2012, the first thing that came up was a newspiece about Sarah Palin looking forward to the 2012 election.

    Yep, the Mayans were right.

Get to your local hardware store as soon as possible before all the duct tape runs out.

  21. How the hell does this guy keep getting work?

  22. BTW, I say again, if the Himalayan mountains are 180000, and even the devastating tsunami in 2004 was only 100 ft and the canary island ones are estimated to be a mile high – well 1 mile = 5280 feet. That’s still not even close to the height of the Himalayas. So where does all this water come from? Like I said, you would have to take all the water from the atlantic ocean and push it to the other side of the world to come close! Like Vic said, “check your brain at the door”

  23. @Lou
Hah, you have a point? But really, haven’t we had to check our brains at the door WAY too much lately? Guess I’ve gotten more used to it than I should.

  24. Gosh that was supposed to be an exclamation point, not a quesion mark. Sorry! :)

  25. For all those people saying that that the Himalayas are 18000 feet tall, that’s only the high points. There are spots that aren’t quite as high. However, I think that it would be a wave of monstrous proportions to completely obliterate a mountain that far inland.

  26. the day after tomorrow was horrible

he just made the snow into water for this one. I wonder if there will be terrible CGI wolves in this one too

  27. Lol Paula,,, they should do a film called “8 hour Window”.
Of course Sam Jackson’s in it!!!

I tell ya you’ve seen one Emmerich film and you’ve seen them all,,,

  28. @Canuck Lou

Because his movies keep turning a profit.

  29. I’m 99% sure this film concept is taken from the book, “2012 The War for Souls” by Whitley Strieber…

Whitley also co-wrote “The Day After Tomarrow” with radio talk show host, Art Bell.

The Tsunami in the trailer is more than likely the result of a magnetic pole shift,,,

Hey this could be a prequel to Waterworld. :-)
