Toy Story 4 cast list reportedly may reveal the new Mr. Potato Head voice actor and other additions to the ensemble. This summer, Pixar's flagship franchise returns with an installment that promises to be as emotional as the ones that came before it. The story involves Woody, Buzz Lightyear, and the gang finding themselves at a carnival, where they meet fresh faces Ducky and Bunny and reunite with a redesigned Bo Peep. Based on the synopsis, Woody will have his perception of the world and what it means to be a toy greatly challenged during this adventure.

Much of the film's marketing to date has focused on acclimating viewers with the new characters of Toy Story 4. In addition to Ducky and Bunny, the sequel introduces Forky, a creation of Bonnie's who firmly believes he is not a toy. However, the sequel will of course feature many of the old staples who have been there since the very beginning. Mr. Potato Head is one series veteran that'll be back, although things won't be entirely the same this time around. Don Rickles, who voiced Potato Head in the first three movies, passed away in 2017 and did not record any Toy Story 4 dialogue prior to his death. Now, fans may know who will step in.

According to Revenge of the Fansthe Toy Story 4 cast includes several actors that have not been officially announced yet. Three of note in particular are Carl Reiner, Mel Brooks, and Alan Oppenheimer. Revenge of the Fans speculates any of those could be the new Potato Head, though it's worth mentioning none of their roles are known. Betty White and Carol Burnett are also said to be voicing mystery characters in the film.

If this information pans out, it illustrates Pixar really swung for the fences in regards to recruiting top-notch talent for Toy Story 4. Among the confirmed additions are Jordan Peele, Keegan Michael-Key, Keanu Reeves, and Tony Hale. Given their pedigree, it isn't surprising that Pixar was able to attract big names to their next project, but this is nevertheless an impressive line-up and it'll be interesting to see how they all factor in. Since Forky, Ducky, and Bunny (voiced by Hale, Michael-Key, and Peele, respectively) have been the only newcomers seen in promotion so far, it'd be reasonable to assume the other additions have smaller roles by comparison. Keeping the carnival setting in mind, the likes of Reeves, White, and Burnett may only appear in a passing scene or two to help flesh out the background and make the environment feel more real for viewers.

Circling back to Potato Head, it's likely only a matter of time before fans find out who's playing the curmudgeonly spud. Sooner or later, Toy Story 4 trailers are going to have to shed more light on the narrative by including sequences and dialogue from the actual film (rather than the bits made specifically for marketing purposes we've already seen). Perhaps viewers will hear Potato Head speak in one of those previews, revealing who took on the duties. Pixar has been here before, needing to replace Slinky Dog's voice after Jim Varney passed away. In that instance, Blake Clark admirably filled in by doing a spot-on impression of Varney's delivery, so hopefully the same thing happens with Potato Head in Toy Story 4.
