Tower Heist Trailer 2 Tower Heist Trailer #2 Spreads the Humor Around

Brett Ratner’s new heist comedy Tower Heist has an okay buzz going amongst casual moviegoers (if laughs measured in random movie theaters is anything to judge by) – however, more hardcore fans aren’t yet convinced that the film is going to bring the laughs.

The first Tower Heist trailer had a heavyweight comedy duo at its center (Ben Stiller and Eddie Murphy, specifically) – and yet the biggest laugh in that trailer went to Gabourey Sidibe, the girl who starred in the least funny movie ever (Precious).

The second Tower Heist trailer is now online, and thankfully it spreads the screen time around instead of investing heavily in Stiller and Murphy. If nothing else, this is a film that has a strong supporting cast, including actors like Alan Alda, Michael Peña, Téa Leoni, Casey Affleck, Judd Hirsch, and “Bueller” himself, Matthew Broderick. Each of those aforementioned actors has brought the funny before, and they’re an eclectic but nonetheless promising roster for a comedic ensemble.

Check out a synopsis for Tower Heist, then move on to trailer #2:

There are a lot of good “moments” in the trailer where the supporting cast each gets a chance to shine – but on the whole, Tower Heist seems to be lacking that big, belly-rolling, laugh-out-loud moment that drives people to the theater. Still, there are enough scattered bits to probably appeal to a sizeable audience – you know, those same people who actually appreciate the phrase “from the director of ‘Rush Hour.'”

We’ll see how it all plays out when Tower Heist hits theaters on November 4, 2011.

  1. Is the video going absolutely crazy for anyone else?

    • Define “going absolutely crazy.” It plays fine for me.

      • By “going absolutely crazy” I mean it keeps blinking green and skips frames. It’s weird. It’s the first time a video’s done this. It might just be my lap top (since it’s working ok for everyone else).

        • It remings me of one of that video that melted people’s brains on Fringe.

    • yeah it freezes at times.

it was a good trailer tho I want to see it :)

      • Huh. I’ve changed a setting that maybe will help. It was hard-set to HD, but I’ve changed it to Auto to set it based on connection speed.

  2. well it is about time eddie showed his face again. i might actually see this, looks like it could be a good laugh. :)

  3. This new trailer made this movie go up a few steps for me. I think I’ll see it :)

  4. Yeah, the rest of the cast doesn’t shine at all in the trailer. It’s still just Murphy and Stiller. I just hope they don’t ruin the talent they have assembled to just show Murphy’s ad-libbing and Stiller’s angry mumbles. Still, it looks alright.

  5. It’s a rental at best. Not paying Brett Ratner ever again.

  6. It doesn’t let me play the video on my mobile device… there’s just an empty space where the video should be…

    • DHL,

Try again. I believe I’ve found a fix for the mobile issue.

      • Well now it’s just a picture and not a video… Thanks anyway, I appreciate the attempt at trying to fix the problem :)

        • DHL,

That’s odd – I have an iPhone and I can play the video just fine…

  7. Brett RATner, anyone? anyone?
