FOX Picks Up ‘Touch’ For Season 2

Kiefer Sutherland and David Mazouz Touch FOX FOX Picks Up Touch For Season 2

Amidst a rush of news regarding the fate of several bubble shows, FOX has announced that its sentimental, pseudo-science fiction drama, Touch, has been renewed for a second season.

The series concerns single-father Martin Bohm (Kiefer Sutherland) as he tries to unravel the mystery behind his son Jake’s (David Mazouz) seemingly preternatural abilities, which involve the Fibonacci sequence, predicting events and love of orange soda. Along for the ride are co-stars Gugu Mbatha-Raw as Jake’s social worker and Danny Glover as a specialist who understands Jake’s abilities and helps guide Martin to a deeper connection with his speechless child.

Despite seeing a small decline in ratings, FOX has decided that the Kiefer Sutherland drama was one of the network’s freshman programs worth saving – something that cannot be said for fellow newbies The Finder and the much-hyped Alcatraz from J.J. Abrams.

The news of the Touch renewal comes despite the lack of official comment from someone at the network. Whether this means that the renewal will have a caveat in place similar to the news surrounding NBC’s returning sitcoms 30 Rock, Parks and Recreation and Up All Night. More likely, however, the network is simply waiting to make an official announcement at the upfronts in a few days time.

Touch’s pilot episode premiered in January to somewhat mixed reviews, but managed to score 12 million viewers. When the series got officially underway in March, it was after the network moved the show from its intended Monday night time to take advantage of the post-American Idol spot on Thursday night - displacing the long-running, but similarly renewed Bones in the process. There Touch initially managed to hold on to most of its audience, but saw a notable period of decline for several weeks. Despite an uptick in ratings last week, the show overall has performed worse than two other high-profile shows, which received the axe.

Both the expensive Terra Nova and the recently cancelled Alcatraz performed better overall in the adults 18-49 demographic than Touch, yet failed to offer enough appeal to the network’s powers that be in order to remain on the schedule. Certainly, there are other factors at play here, and Sutherland’s long and lucrative tenure with FOX during 24′s eight seasons have undoubtedly earned him enough clout with the network to warrant such a decision.

At present, there has been no word on how many episodes will comprise season 2, but that news will likely come alongside the official renewal announcement at next week’s network upfronts.

Certainly, this is good news for fans of Kiefer Sutherland and those who have enjoyed both the conveniently interwoven stories that comprise each episode, as well as the deepening mystery concerning Jake’s gifts that has been building over the series’ first season.

  3. Excellent show!!! Just watched the whole of season 1 with the hubby and we are 100% hooked. What a refreshing change, love the story and the twists, wish we had seen it when it was on, but never heard of it until a friend recommended it and do glad they did. HURRY UP AND MAKE SERIES 2 FOX!!! Cannot wait 2 see what happens next

  4. Great love show

  5. Fox is to be commended for continuing Tim Kring’s unique series TOUCH. Kiefer Sutherland’s character is sometimes a bit over the top in his arriving at conclusions from his son Jake’s (brilliantly played by David Mazouz) silent hints. Somewhat reminiscent of Timmy interpreting Lassie’s tail-wagging as an indicator that old Ben fell into the well at the miner’s cave near Indian Bluffs. Aside from that very minor complaint, I truly enjoy the show and hope it enjoys many seasons.

  14. I LOVE this show, i’m Dying to see more! This has to take over NCIS In 1st in my top TV show list. I love how it’s recorded and put together, how people meet up that you’d never expect had anything to do with each other.
I think that eventually somehow Jake and Amelia’s mum should end up together and Martin and Amelia should end up together somehow *w* that would be cool, like someone shoots Martin(I dunno just throwing around ideas Sorry Kiefer Sutherland ) And takes jake away but Amelia’s mum knows where to go to get him back from following her daughters numbers. Martin on the other hand goes to a private hospital and after recovering abit from his wound he wonders through the hospital and accedently comes across Amelia who was admitted to hospital before hand due to her brain damage.
Just thought that plot up last night and i love it <3

  15. I personally am a great fan of tim krings show, and I just love “touch” can’t wait for season 2

  16. I am so glad that Touch the series with Kiefer Sutherland is coming back as it is one of the cleanes stories on tv and very easy to watch

  17. Thanks for keeping the show alive. The last series I got hooked on was ABS’s FlashForward and when that got cancelled I stopped watching series…until Touch came on ! It is so creative and I get so into the characters and the plot. Curious and excited to see where the writers will go with this.

    • My thoughts exactly! I’ve been hooked on Flash Forward, and when I got wind of news of its cancellation, I was pretty upset… Then, Touch came and it changed everything… What if I was meant to read your comment? Ooooh. ;)

      • I too was hooked on FlashForward and incredibly disappointed when they cancelled it. They sure left us hanging at the end! Glad they decided to continue with Touch as it is such a refreshing show. I don’t get hooked on many weekly “miniseries, sitcoms, etc.”, so when one comes along that I enjoy, it must be good!

  18. So glad and amazed to hear that FOX will be continuing this series. Can’t wait for the plot to further unfold. Truly, Touch, is a series worth saving. Hat’s off to you, FOX.

  19. Such a DIFFERENT and refreshing kind of show to watch…we saw the whole first season and HATED waiting for two months between the pilot and the first episode…then we watched the whole first season over last night and plan to watch it again this weekend with friends…we just LOVE every character and can hardly wait to see how the Amelia character and her mother play into the new season! BRAVO!

  20. Touch is an amazing show. I love it! I can’t wait for season 2.

  21. I spiritually connected with Jake who has the ability to silently put people in need of each other in his numerical, domino affect. I cry easily and every show I watched I was in tears. If only we can be like Touch, then we could be closer as a world wide family. Absolutely cant wait for Season 2.

  22. I LOVE Touch! I can not express to anyone how long I want this show to last. Let’s just go with forever!

  23. Hi, I saw all series 1 back to back over several nights and was completely hooked! Brilliant!! There should be more phenomenal shows on tv and less vampire ones , yawn. Too many of those now, keep it up x

  24. Amazing series. It’s a message the world needs to hear. Can’t wait for season 2 and more. Thank you for this great program! Keep it going

  25. I love this show! I’m so happy it’s going to have a season 2! I hope more people watch it. It’s such an awesome show!

  26. i love the show season 2 will be good now am happy

  27. I never knew about this wonderful series with Keifer, Today I watched two episodes from Season 1, now I have to go out and purchase season 1 on DVD. It is a wonderful series and I am going to enjoy watching season 2 on FOX. Thank you so much FOX for bringing us this wonderful Drama, and Keifer, thank you also!

  28. I can’t wait for the second season. My daughter has autism so it really nice to see a show touch on the characteristics that these children go through. Not to say they are all superhero’s but the computer skills, the way their minds work differently, the puzzles, etc. It helps me see that I am lucky my daughter will hug me and its a struggle that could be just as bad as the father son relationship these characters go through in the series. So thank you! I look forward to watching again! :)
