FOX Picks Up ‘Touch’ For Season 2

Kiefer Sutherland and David Mazouz Touch FOX FOX Picks Up Touch For Season 2

Amidst a rush of news regarding the fate of several bubble shows, FOX has announced that its sentimental, pseudo-science fiction drama, Touch, has been renewed for a second season.

The series concerns single-father Martin Bohm (Kiefer Sutherland) as he tries to unravel the mystery behind his son Jake’s (David Mazouz) seemingly preternatural abilities, which involve the Fibonacci sequence, predicting events and love of orange soda. Along for the ride are co-stars Gugu Mbatha-Raw as Jake’s social worker and Danny Glover as a specialist who understands Jake’s abilities and helps guide Martin to a deeper connection with his speechless child.

Despite seeing a small decline in ratings, FOX has decided that the Kiefer Sutherland drama was one of the network’s freshman programs worth saving – something that cannot be said for fellow newbies The Finder and the much-hyped Alcatraz from J.J. Abrams.

The news of the Touch renewal comes despite the lack of official comment from someone at the network. Whether this means that the renewal will have a caveat in place similar to the news surrounding NBC’s returning sitcoms 30 Rock, Parks and Recreation and Up All Night. More likely, however, the network is simply waiting to make an official announcement at the upfronts in a few days time.

Touch’s pilot episode premiered in January to somewhat mixed reviews, but managed to score 12 million viewers. When the series got officially underway in March, it was after the network moved the show from its intended Monday night time to take advantage of the post-American Idol spot on Thursday night – displacing the long-running, but similarly renewed Bones in the process. There Touch initially managed to hold on to most of its audience, but saw a notable period of decline for several weeks. Despite an uptick in ratings last week, the show overall has performed worse than two other high-profile shows, which received the axe.

Both the expensive Terra Nova and the recently cancelled Alcatraz performed better overall in the adults 18-49 demographic than Touch, yet failed to offer enough appeal to the network’s powers that be in order to remain on the schedule. Certainly, there are other factors at play here, and Sutherland’s long and lucrative tenure with FOX during 24′s eight seasons have undoubtedly earned him enough clout with the network to warrant such a decision.

At present, there has been no word on how many episodes will comprise season 2, but that news will likely come alongside the official renewal announcement at next week’s network upfronts.

Certainly, this is good news for fans of Kiefer Sutherland and those who have enjoyed both the conveniently interwoven stories that comprise each episode, as well as the deepening mystery concerning Jake’s gifts that has been building over the series’ first season.

Screen Rant will keep you updated, as more news regarding season 2 of Touch is made available.

  1. I am enjoying the show, but the whole web of connections is becoming predictable.
And if Fox really wanted a show where Kiefer Sutherland ran around New York shouting Damn It! at every possible opportunity, they should have just made another season of 24.

  2. I was pretty disappointed with the show to be honest. I love Keifer Sutherland, and the concept is intriguing, but it’s not what makes a television show great. A television show should have several characters you get to view all grow and develop as we learn what they learn. But instead, Touch changes its characters in every episode, only keeping the main three. It’s a decent show, but definitely not a contender for best Television Series at the Emmys.

    • Cmon!!! is the evolution man! series has to evoult, can you tell me something about supernatural, only two original main characters!!! and they just order season 8

    • I disagree, I find that having a variation of characters keeps the show interesting and that the main 4 or so characters grow through the changing characters. Agree to disagree I suppose.

    • its about the world thats why it has different characters every episode

    • u sume wrong and this has a view of every direction of heading in to 1 particular show like this one. as its worth and the work just amazing i couldnt even sleep just knowing what was going to happend so i downloaded. this is a show to bring up to

  3. Bad move cancelling Alcatraz Fox! A good show that was just getting better. At least sell the rights to a cable network (USA, History, SyFy) and keep it going!

    • Big Sutherland fan here but Touch is something i cant get into, not that Alcatraz or Terranova were any better. Still trying to figure out how Bones is still on? At least we get 13 more Fringe eps.

  4. I watched the first five episodes but the show just does not grab me.
I want to like it, since it’s the only show with Kiefer Sutherland at the moment, and I loved 24.
What a shame to cancel that show!
“Touch” doesn’t make me care about the characters and Kiefer Sutherland around shouting “Jake” has gotten annoying real quick.

    • Never watched 24 but absolutly love this show. The too are so diverant its probable if you like one prob wont be into the other. So glad its coming back.

  5. I consider this show harmless entertainment. It’s not the first time we’ve seen the every-man traveling the city helping strangers and the twist is new. It isn’t always plausible but it is a feelgood series. All I can say against the show is that I don’t feel drawn to the big dilemma of the father trying to keep his son. If they dropped that angle and gave some more voiceover insight to the boy’s reasoning for these adventures I’d be more interested in watching.

  6. As a Brit I think the shows good overall

Granted It doens’t have the same gravitas as 24… and naturally so.

I think Kiefer has got a lot to live up to and is somewhat stuck in the ’24 zone’

I mean EVERYONE expects him to be Jack Bauer saving the world when he’s only an actor and really stuck in that shadow.

If he went to do a comedy people would be like ‘wheres the guns / bombs and terrorists at?’ right?

TV has raised the bar so very high in the last 10 – 15 years os so… (I mean look at HBO. BBC and their ilk) that we expect Hollywood on the small screen.

As far as Touch is concerned I think its very well written and made… and I feel entertained, which is what it’s all about in the end, right?

  7. I absolutely love Touch and was nervous it wouldn’t be picked up after some reviews I read. I think the work that must go into it to create the plots and the fantastic acting from all is, in itself, worthy of the season 2 pick-up. Really hope it goes on for another few seasons!

  8. Love this show I believe that autistic children are linked to the unexplained it has kept me watching from the beginning viewers need to give this program a shot

  9. I love this show despite how others feel. You just have to pay attention to the show its pretty amazing. So I’m ecstatic that there is going to be a season 2 of Touch. It keeps me wondering.

  10. Should have been a 2nd season of Terra Nova !

  11. What a great show…Thanks for picking it back up FOX, you have made my day. I count the minutes every week until Thursday until I can watch this show again. You really hit a home run here. Good Luck with Season 2 (make it come out fast please lol).

  12. 4 those of u who are not into the show here’s a tip I loved 24 and Sunderland be I didn’t think touch was as good as I thought it was the first couple episodes but it just gets more and more intense as the episodes Jake plays it great

  13. A decent show but can do better. And GUGU is absolutely gorgeous :)

  14. You may be surprised to find that while this is a work of fiction, Author, the pseudo-science may actually be more along the lines of science science, dear friend.

You should indulge in the arts of quantum mechanics, string theory, and the theories which articulate the possibilities of more than meets the eye. Sacred geometry is abundant in this wonderful series, and I am glad that it made it to the big bad mainstream.

Perhaps, instead of so much negativity, people will see a glance of positivity – which is exactly what is needed to save this world.

    Best regards.

  15. i really enjoyed the show, 24 that was my all time favorite, even would have loved to see that continue, but i would love to see season 2 and if they ever find Amelia to prove shes not dead. id watch just about any show if it keeps you going with somthing crazy and new. so fox is the station i always turn too, keep it up :)

  16. Awesome show! Love Jake – Love Keiffer! Can’t wait for season 2!!

  17. Touch is a great show that I can sit and watch with my 14 and 7 year old girls. We love making predictions to see who gets the connections correct. Through life I have never believed in coincidences, Touch goes on the same premise and shows that there is a reason for everything that happens in life. We are so glad that FOX renewed the show for another season and looking forward to the fall.

  18. I love the premise of the show and absolutely adore Keiffer. It has suspense, intrigue and the idea of how everything happens for a reason – how everything you do can somehow affect someone else without knowing it……It just keeps me on the edge of my seat and cannot wait for the next episode to come one.
I am just thrilled that Touched was picked up for second season and hope it will continue on for a long time.

  19. I would not have survived without a second season, this is the only thing getting me through the week, it sucks that I have to wait for next season, but thank you so much FOX for making this series. I am entertained and surprised and I laugh, cry, and scream at the TV every episode.

  20. One of the best shows i have ever seen…. hooked from day 1, i preferred to watch it alone so i could fully immerse myself in the story with no distractions. THe story lines are incredible, the way everything intertwines, and the shows concept is so imaginative, well written and for each episode i am fully engrossed and loving it!

  21. I really enjoyed Touch, cant wait for season 2. I thought the different characters were interesting and as the theme goes, connected. Kiefer was great as usual, and Jake was represented well by the cute young chap.
I sometimes find US TV difficult, different sense of humour I Imagine, but I do enjoy them. Well done FOX, we on this side of the water really enjoyed the series, more please. One question, is gotten a real word have wanted to know for ages.

  22. I absolutely LOVE this show!
I watch it faithfully every week,
Sooo much better than the reality, dating, talk show GARBAGE!

  23. Keifer Sutherland is a smacktard and has been for years. 24 had some decent wriiting but honestly? shoving that idiot in there betwen his drunken episodes. Jack is 5″11″….. They let Keifer stumble in there and then let him walk on a DUI. The rest of us if we get a DUI it’s kinda horrific… Keifer gets to go because he has to film. Okay stubby… go back and film it…

Then it’s great? glorious? mindshattering? mmmm not so much.

The second time he was so wasted he couldn’t walk. He stumbled into the camera and then out then he barfed.

Personally I’d shout for that as a great actor?? hell lets make him pres.

  24. Love the show … yes sometimes predictable but so far I don’t care, I just want to see where it goes.

  25. i love the show, i love the concept. i cant wait for season 2. even though its somewhat predictable, i think thats what makes the show awesome. and GUGU is really beautiful.

  26. I LOVE this show! It is mind-grasping and suspenseful. It gets a person to think and become more aware of their surroundings. Believe it or not “its a small world” is not an understatement. This show, truly shows, whats is real.

  27. This show is amazing. I was hoping so bad for a second season, I could not be happier when they decided to pick it up for another one. I never got into Alcatraz nor the dinosaurs story thing (Terra something) so those cancellation won’t affect me.

I just want to add that Gugu is gorgeous.

    thanks again.

  28. This show reminds me of lost and how the numbers and everything around has meaning. I hope this show can continue on for many seasons and does not get axed. So many good shows are getting axed cause they think not many people are watching or change their time for some dumb reality tv show. I say make more tv shows and stop making reality tv their is too much and I can’t escape into reality.
