  1. Loved your list, but i have to add more!
Hellraiser, The Howling and Demons I and II by Argento (yeah, i like it!).

    • LOTS of people have seen Hellraiser and the Howling. The article is on movies most haven’t seen.

      • Most movies in this list are just as popular as these ones.

  2. Good list for horror newbs I suppose. I am guessing most older horror fans have seen 90% of those films.

  3. In the Mouth of Madness. . I started to watch that, since I am a Lovecraft fan. Unfortunately, a different kind of Lovecraft intervened, since I was watching it w/my gf of the time. Never saw more than the 1st 10 mins, as a result.

    • You should try it again, it’s really worth it. One of the best movies by the legendary John Carpenter.

    • “Prince of Darkness” and “The Thing” compose Carpenter’s cosmic horror trilogy. All three are very good.

As far as the most Lovecraftian of films, I would vote for Peter Weir’s “The Last Wave.” This is an overlooked film which really captures what it is like to have your world and belief system rendered false.

  4. One of my favorite movies of all time. Mind-bending and eerie, it asks the question of what is really considered reality. Sam Niell is fantastic as a no-nonsense insurance fraud investigator, and Charlton Heston as the book publisher. It’s a great movie that really plays with your mind, especially when you put yourself in the position of the main characters. Watch it…you won’t regret it.

    • I was talking about “In The Mouth Of Madness”.

  5. Bad Taste by Peter Jackson is funny and gross and fairly obscure.

    • Bad Taste is legendary! The buzz-saw scene is the best hilariously gory scene ever.

  6. Obscure? These are all very well known films, some are even dead-set classics.

  7. Make sure you check out the full original UNCUT version of Peter Jackson’s movie Braindead, NOT that heavily censored version released in the US as Dead Alive!
