There is a long list of awesome weapons in the history of cinema, and it’s about time we narrow them down to the top 25 (in our all-knowing, unerring opinion).
From weapons the size of a moon to a gun no larger than your pinkie, there’s plenty of variety on the list. But we couldn’t add them all – a couple just missed the cut. The Bear Jew’s baseball bat from Inglourious Basterds, the prawn electric Tesla arc splattering gun from District 9 and the intense .50-caliber, M82 sniper rifle in Smokin’ Aces should be considered honorable mentions.
The actual rankings are based on the capability of the weapon itself. Some sit lower on the list because they would be near useless without the specific user. A few at the top of the list may have been destroyed, but it makes them no less powerful or worthy of the their rank.
I cannot believe Iron Mans Lazers made it and not Thors Hammer. However there was a weapon that if it truley existed would be scarey as hell. Years ago there was a movie called Runaway with Tom Seleck and Gene Simmons. Gene had a gun whos bullets turned corners and went around buildings chasing whoevers DNA it was personalized for
I thought of District 9 as soon as I read the title, too bad just an honorable mention. But RoboCop didn’t even get that! You could have included the Cobra Assault Cannon, the 6000-SUX-sized rifle the baddies use against RoboCop and which later RoboCop uses to destroy an ED 209
Not to be nit-picky, but the picture used for #12 Iron Man 2- Wrist Laser is a promo shot from The Avengers. Sorry my attention to detail is insane I know.
I haven’t read ALL the entries, but did they include the BFG from Doom, the Mini Gun from Predator/T2, Whatever that gun was that Terry Crewes had in The Expendables, and the Alien weapons from Mars Attacks….. Also the Batman Arsenal and Predator’s throwing blade that cut Gary Busey in half in Predator 2
At the beginning of this article, even before I scrolled through, I swore I’d be against the article if they didn’t mention the “Noisy Cricket” You had me there. A very good collection of weapons…All the more for the .44
Anton Chigur’s captive bolt gun from “No Country for Old Men.” Driver’s hammer and bullet from “Drive.” Riddick”s tea cup from “The Chronicles of Riddick.”
Good article, but District 9 had not one but a couple of bad ass, original weapons. I would’ve liked to see at least one on the list and how could you not include Ryan Gosling’s shoe from “Drive” on the list? Lol. I do agree with one of the other posters about the bullet and hammer being cool too. But they were hardly used its just that the character was bad ass and made the weapons sort of seem so too. He could of carried a golf club and it probably would of had the same feel.
the ship that was destroyed by a blaster is less powerful than the one that’s “not as clumsy as a blaster?” sure, it can destroy planets, but it ONLY destroyed 1 planet AND it was destroyed twice AND the entire Empire just gave up after it was destroyed? come on!
I found several omissions in the list, but most of them were already included in the coments. The ones that haven’t are
1) The three-bladed sword from The Sword and the Sorcerer
2) The sub-terranean bots from Screamers
OMD how can you not have included the Annihilator 2000 from Beverly Hills cop 3, I mean how many guns do you know that fire grenades and also have a music player, phone and microwave.
Imagine, heating a hotdog whilst on the phone to your girlfriend saying ‘honey, I’ll be home late, I’m just killing some bad guys right now, love you’. NOW THAT’S BADASS!
1)-The guns used by the Grammaton Clerics in Equilibrum
2)The pulse gun and flying CD /disc used by the aliens in Dolph Lundgren’s I Come in Peace aka Dark Angel.
3) Jessica Biel’s laser -powered compound bow from Blade 3
These are weapons that are fun!
To me, the guns, are secondary to the Grammaton Clerics. Regulars guns, bad ass clerics.
The Terminator is a weapon. Un-arguably one of the 25 most awesome movie weapons of all time. I would say that Terminators belong in the top 5 even.
I was like “What?!?! The lightsaber isn’t #1 !?!?!” and then I looked at #1 and was like “Oh, I guess there’s that…” lol
LOL… Same here
Cap’s Shield, that’s a good weapon right there

Ah, this is an older article that we republished – good poInt about Thor’s hammer!
The wormhole weapon from Farscape, starts of slow but gets bigger, and Bigger and BIGGER, until it is one huge black hole which destroys everything!
Other than that, very entertaining list.
What about the Predators shoulder mounted gun?
It DID hollow out Jessie Ventura after all.
How did you guys miss Green Lantern Ring, or batman’s utility belt
Not to be nit-picky, but the picture used for #12 Iron Man 2- Wrist Laser is a promo shot from The Avengers. Sorry my attention to detail is insane I know.
Believe me I thought of the exact same scene wherein Iron Man slices the Chitauri using this very laser…
Predator bombs from AvP
that’s all i can think of…..
What about Mega Maid from Spaceballs? Trying to steal Planet Druidia’s oxygen haha
I haven’t read ALL the entries, but did they include the BFG from Doom, the Mini Gun from Predator/T2, Whatever that gun was that Terry Crewes had in The Expendables, and the Alien weapons from Mars Attacks….. Not sure if it would be considered a weapon, but The Machine from The Princess Bride!
How the hell can you call this a comprehensive list when the Pulse Rifle from Aliens isn’t on it?
the ship that was destroyed by a blaster is less powerful than the one that’s “not as clumsy as a blaster?” sure, it can destroy planets, but it ONLY destroyed 1 planet AND it was destroyed twice AND the entire Empire just gave up after it was destroyed? come on!
Not sure if anyone said this but the flying disk in predator 2 that cuts Gary busey in half is pretty awesome.
I found several omissions in the list, but most of them were already included in the coments. The ones that haven’t are
1) The three-bladed sword from The Sword and the Sorcerer
2) The sub-terranean bots from Screamers
FAIL!
you forgot the flying guillotine from “Master of the Flying Guillotine”
oh yeah and what about the ball from “Phantasm”
District 9. Pig. I don’t need to say more.
ghostbuster’s ?????????
Ghostbusters – Proton Pack !!! Come on !
You guys mentioned a few swords but left one very important sword out,,,Zatiochi’s sword with the plain stick looking sheath.
The feather duster in Ip Man.
What about the fire extinguisher nail gun from sudden death with van damme?
