There is a long list of awesome weapons in the history of cinema, and it’s about time we narrow them down to the top 25 (in our all-knowing, unerring opinion).
From weapons the size of a moon to a gun no larger than your pinkie, there’s plenty of variety on the list. But we couldn’t add them all – a couple just missed the cut. The Bear Jew’s baseball bat from Inglourious Basterds, the prawn electric Tesla arc splattering gun from District 9 and the intense .50-caliber, M82 sniper rifle in Smokin’ Aces should be considered honorable mentions.
The actual rankings are based on the capability of the weapon itself. Some sit lower on the list because they would be near useless without the specific user. A few at the top of the list may have been destroyed, but it makes them no less powerful or worthy of the their rank.
I would also add to this list the extending sword/staff used by Prince Nuada in Hellboy 2. I know that it seems like a simple blade, and that just that it extends while being used doesn’t make it that much better, it has one pretty deadly feature. A portion of the blade is set aside to be snapped off inside of somebody stabbed by it. The blade grows back and the portion stuck in the person burrows further into the person when you try to touch it, making it almost impossible to remove. Just saying, I think it’s pretty cool.
No disrespect to all the cool Hollywood make-believe guns. I believe in real working ones. The Desert Eagle pistol made by Magnum Research, Inc., used in more movies, TV shows and animated programs then any other gun in the past 25+ years. Used by Arnold, Stallone and countless others heroes and villains.
I own one and when I shoot at the range it always draws a crowd. My point is, that list you have, none of us will ever get close to owning or shooting one of them. But you can today enjoy a Desert Eagle.
“The Star Forge drew energy and matter from a nearby star which, when combined with the power of the Force, was capable of creating an endless supply of ships, droids, and other war material.”
I guess what we all need to remember, is that this is the internet and today anyone can create a list. This isn’t Time magazines greatest, the Rock and Roll hall of fame or Sports Illustrated. Not to say that the author isn’t credible, just that you could just as easily create a list and you wouldn’t complain about the selections unless you’re schizophrenic or have multiple personalities.
Death Star YES! it deserves one of the first spots but… honestly, there’s nothing more powerful than Chuck Norris… i mean he doesn’t even have a chin, he has another fist under that beard…
Totally agree with the top 2 choices. Lightsaber changed the way every kid and full grown adult male carry a stick! And the Death Star, well its in the name!
Though as mentioned in above comments, where the hell is the Aliens Pulse rifle, Old Painless and Dredds Lawgiver???
Other honorable mentions woulda been a Wookiee bowcaster, a Phaser, And Bruce Lees Nunchucks.
Look, if your’e gonna put something to do with the lord of the rings, why put sting? Come on, what about the ring or something. And if the ring isn’t really a weapon what about Narsil, the sword that cut the ring from Sauron’s hand?
Anduril,
A palantir (which isn’t really a weapon but it tries to decieve Aragorn and certainly leaves Pippin in a state),
The staff of Gandalf or Saruman,
Orcrist(thorin’s blade),
Glamdring(gandalf’s blade),
Guthwine(eomer’s blade),
Herugrim(theoden’s blade),
Hadhafang(arwen’s blade),
Morgul blade,
The Black Arrow,
The mace of the Witch-King,
The mace of Sauron,
there are so many and even though sting is frodo’s sword, the scene with arwen and the nazgul is more interesting than gollum and sting so hadhafang could easily take the place of sting!
Yeah, those are all great but I think that the witch king’s mace/morning star deserves a spot. You just loose your breath as the nazgul swings it at Eoyn, shattering her shield instantly.
Some of the coolest weapons I’ve ever witnessed on film were the Prawn’s arsenal of devastating weaponry from District 9. Surely, they deserve a spot on this list.
The one weapon that will over take the Death Star when it makes it hits the screen in avengers 2 or 3 will be “The Infinity Gauntlet”.
If it is portrayed like it was in the comics, you basically become GOD wielding it.
The LEXX, the most powerful destructive force in the two universes

Very disappointed at no mention of the Judges Lawgiver!
What? No mention of Old Painless from PREDATOR?
Wow really? No pulse rifle from Aliens (1986) GREATEST GUN EVA!!
nice color gun

Well, the .44 Magnum was on the list, you can own and fire that today.
What about the .44?
The Star Forge.
“The Star Forge drew energy and matter from a nearby star which, when combined with the power of the Force, was capable of creating an endless supply of ships, droids, and other war material.”

Another vote for the Desert Eagle .50AE…

I was hoping to see the four-barreled shotgun from Phantasm II. Oh well…
M41A Pulse Rifle! My fav, anyways.
I can’t believe you didn’t list the alien handgun from, I Come In Peace.
Chuck Norris was a student of Bruce Lee. Just saying!

Any list without Caster Troys golden guns is a worthless list. Half of these are great pick and half are terrible (Austin powers, etc…)
How could you forget the star from Krull?
Where is the M41a pulse rifle?
What about da pulse rifle from aliens??????
Yeah, those are all great but I think that the witch king’s mace/morning star deserves a spot. You just loose your breath as the nazgul swings it at Eoyn, shattering her shield instantly.
Can’t believe you left out Bullet Tooth Tony’s Desert Eagle from Snatch. Correctable I’m sure.

Whoops, I should have read the last page.
Scarface wields an M-203 as I remember it. An M-16 with the grenade launcher attachment was designated an M-203.
