first off its gotta be larry fishbourne for cyrus and sam jackson as the next leader then i think either giovanni ribisi or as much as i hate him juaquin pheonix jus to say “warriors come out to play” i think the warriors should all be unknowns apart from chaning tatum as ajax, and i think it should have all the old crews going to coney, we got enough gansgter movies with cripos n bloods

I do actually remember hearing walter hill saying that the original was supposed to be futuristic in its own way… Gangs outnumbering the cops by large numbers, the whole comic-book feel to it, etc. So i think something futuristic would be cool as long as the only person that has a gun is luther. Hopefully cleon gets in a couple of more shots before they beat him to death and hopefully its good.

It’s not going to be any good guys!! Tony Scott is a hack in the first place, and the premise in the second place is wrong for updating…gangs back then wore uniforms of sorts and you could more or less tell who was in one when you looked across the street and saw some dudes in the same kind of lettered jacket. Nowadays, these jerks wear whatever and have almost NO HONOR, all of ‘em carrying guns, which would have made the ‘79 Warriors a REALLL short movie. Say nope to this dope

steventhegit, yes, the train scene with the prom kids speaks volumes about the type of lives these guys live and what the other side is like. Smart filmmaking from Walter Hill right there!
Althought I love Tony Scott’s films, I fear this might just be a full blown action movie without any substance. Althought I do not mind a senseless action film from time to time, but the original had messages and was well thought out that left an impression on you. Such as the train scene with the prom kids which steven has mentioned.

“Can you count suckahs? I say the future is ours! If you can count?! Now look what we have here before us? We have the Saracens, standing next to the Jones Street Boys. We have the Moon Runners standing right next to the VanCourtland Rangers. Nobody is wasting nobody…and that is a Miracle!”

YEAH!

Always loved when the DJ reveals they had the wrong gang all along.

“Sorry about that. Guess all we can do is play your a song.”

Although, for all the great lines, some of the silent moments are the best – such as being on the train when the prom kids come on. That whole scene spoke volumes.

That does sound weird, change nothing but the place.

There was something so OTT about the Warriors that I can’t seem them recapturing that. It would seem almost daft now, but then just looked cool. Loved the baseball players with painted faces standing in the street. Even Ajax was unnerved!

Also the guy (never remember his name) who played the whiney, devious baddie was brilliantly manic.

Would take a lot to win me over. A lot of these cult movies from the 70s and 80s have a great raw feel to them, often due to not having the money or the tech, and had unknowns who made their names. You just know a remake will look slick and have names to bring in an audience.

I’m 100% with you on that but if they did the warriors and actually shot some of it in new york there could be a possibility that i can be an extra which would be sooo awesome. I grew up in the 80’s in brooklyn somewhat near coney and most of the places they showed within the movie havent changed as much… Except for the trains but yes i rather they not make a remake but a prequel. Showing how the warriors became and what they had to do just to be a part of the “circuit”… Plus we’d get to see all the other gangs in action like the high hats and the huns, saracens and the jones street boys… Boppers and the nearly most feared furies. But maybe thats just me wanting dreams to come true.

well I KNOW i’m dating myself with this post, but the Warriors came out as I was leaving high school and made a significant impression on me on multiple levels, talking about disaffected youth (hello punk movement), the disparity in the economic strata, crime and it’s causes and effects and coupled with some visionary and decently choregraphed fight scenes (for it’s time) with a sense of the underside of NYC being shown that is now no longer present. In other words, it was a helluva thought provoking film at a time when movies really helped shape a generation. It didn’t even say that these guys were good guys, just a bunch of dudes stuck in the wrong place at the wrong time. Good casting and some well done performances from Beck and Remar especially. I am really torn about wether a remake is even needed, a movie like that has a certain moment in time quality that makes me dubious as to whether a redo of the film is even necessary.
