Tom Holland discusses plans for Peter Parker/Spider-Man's future when Spider-Man: Homecoming 2 rolls out in 2019. Days before his debut standalone film, Spider-Man: Homecoming hits theaters, the actor is already far down the line in terms of what else we can expect from his character in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

With Homecoming tracking to be a successful relaunch effort from Marvel Studios and Sony Pictures Entertainment, it is not a surprise that the companies are moving forward with a film follow-up already in the works. Homecoming 2 is set to take place merely minutes after the events of the yet-to-be-untitled Avengers 4 film and will be the first in MCU's Phase 4 docket. The project is set to start filming sometime in the middle of next year with Jon Watts most likely returning to direct and most of the main cast slated to reprise their respective roles.

With that in mind, Holland's place in the MCU is slowly being solidified with the actor recently hinting what his character may be up to in Homecoming 2. In an interview with Collider, the Holland talks about Peter's character growth from a kid learning to live with his superpowers to a man knowing exactly how to use them:

"I will be on Spider-Man 2 about mid-July next year. I think the most interesting thing about a young man's life is his journey from being a boy to a man, and imagine seeing that journey while having superpowers. That's something I know I'm definitely excited to explore. I know Kevin [Feige] and the rest of the team are very excited to explore."

As for the potential villains that Spider-Man may face in Homecoming 2? Holland is mum -- relegating the selection process to Kevin Feige and his creative team in Marvel Studios. Although, whoever it is, they have some big shoes to fill with Michael Keaton's Vulture ranking as one of the best in the roster of bad guys we have seen thus far in the MCU.

Of course, by the time Spider-Man: Homecoming 2 comes around, Holland is no longer a Marvel rookie, having appeared in supposedly three films (Homecoming, Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers 4) which may mean that he could be stepping into a bigger role in MCU's Phase 4. Feige has previously teased that some of the principal cast in the shared cinematic universe will meet their end in Avengers 3 and possibly also in its sequel. Given that, a new crop of Marvel heroes will need to carry the mantle moving forward and Spider-Man, with his great fan affinity, is at the forefront of the list.
